Utilities / Re: MeShell commandline frontend timetable

I have finished MeShell Version 0.84 (740 kB).

There are two useful additions:
  • In the Top Panel, there are buttons for navigation to error messages (stderr output)
  • A dropdown field in the navigation window let you change the order of the shown commands (by time, alphabetically)

And of course, again several minor bug fixes.
From my point of view, functionality is complete now. If you find bugs you can reproduce regulary, please send me a report.
Sometimes, the order of stderr output and stdout output can disarrange. But I still cannot reproduce the problem.

OK, there's a text file with the registration code. But where can I enter the registration code? I didn't find anything in the Screen Notebook.

But meanwhile, I realized that I need to register SNAP. But I cannot register anymore The page is no more available, and registering makes no sense anymore because SNAP is part of ArcaOS. How to manage this problem now?

Applications / SkyChart from 1990
« on: December 16, 2020, 04:39:50 pm »
There's a tiny nice program SkyChart which has been written for OS/2 1.3 in 1990. It still works on current OS/2 systems:
then press "SkyChart".

The program shows the night sky on a specific location and a specific time.

But there are two bugs:
- Date bug: the current date is 2000 instead von 2020
- Resolution bug: Screens larger than 1920x1200 immediately crash the program.

The authors are Hans Bloemendaal and Klaas van Ditzhuyzen, Netherlands. Does anyone has still contact with them? If I get the source code, I could try to fix the two bugs.

I like the program more than current Windows programs, because it is so simple.

I have found a very simple workaround for my ArcaOS 5.0.6 problem where 1600x1200 is used instead of 1920x1200: I have simply installed an elder SNAP version from here:

and all works fine!
I only had to press a lot of times "YES" because old files have to be copied over newer files.

The normal behaviour is copying the content of the file into the editor. This is inherited from the editor project (ME, WSedit and others), but it is nearly nonsense in MeShell. Changing the default behaviour should be the file name and not the content. I have this point on my to-do-list. The filename with directory (if the current directory differs) should be the default behaviour.

Dropping with Ctrl copies the file without directory
Dropping with Ctrl+Shift copies the full file name

Dropping in the non-prompt area is only allowed for folders and performs a "CD dirname" operation.

I have replaced the c:\snap and the c:\os2\drivers\snap directories by the content of the eCS 2.0 installation. No effect. Even the "Wide Screen" checkbox is still not available.

The ATI X300 graphics card has its own 128 MB memory.

Does ist make sense to switch to an older SNAP version? Can I simply replace the \os2\drivers\snap directory? (running another installation, of course)

I have added my comment to an existing ticket, it has been reported some days ago:

SET VCFG_NO_DDC is already set to true.

Here is my graphics.log file.

Setup & Installation / Problem with SNAP resulution
« on: October 10, 2020, 06:15:15 pm »
I have installed ArcaOS 5.0.6 on a old Computer from 2009 where an ecs 2.0 silver release has been installed before. An ATI X300 graphics card is installed where a 1920x1200 16M resultion works fine.

I cannot switch in the "Screen" object to 1920x1200 resultion. I can click to it, but after rebooting, I always get a 1600x1200 resolution.

I have compared the settings with the old SNAP version from 2006 with eCS 2.0. The monitor is recognized, in both cases DPMS is on, GTF is off. In the old SNAP, there are checkboxes "Wide Resolution" on and "4 x 3" res on which are no more existant in the newer SNAP.

Any ideas?

The second window shows that the VIO window has not opened (VIO invis. button) but it should be shown. Press this button and it should appear. In the VIO tab of the settings notebook, it should appear automatically if you have chosen the default values:
first and second checkbox checked, last radiobutton checked

I have downloaded the program from Hobbes and it worked fine with MeShell.

I have really no idea, I cannot reproduce the problem at all.

Perhaps the problem has vanished.
I have updated to MeShell Version 0.83.
  • Filename completion now works with spaces in the filename
  • New button "CD" in navigation window makes the selected directory current
  • When starting MeShell and restoring the current directories from the last session via history...cmd file, the current directories are veryfied because it can happen that meanwhile a directory is no more existant
  • Size of history file length (settings notebook page "Save") now in 1,000 lines an no more in 10,000 lines.

Can anyone else reproduce the problem Anchieri has? I cannot.

If you delete or rename the file meshell.ini, you will get the first query again. It could be possible that the problem occurs when starting MeShell in a specific way. I tried OS/2 commandline and program object, both seems to work.

I have written a batchfile collection BatchBurn for easy use of cdrecord. A simple command to create an ISO file from a CD is also included.

MeShell 0.81 could crash when browsing the command history with Cursor Up/Down. In the new navigation window, the button names in english language were complete false. MeShell Version 0.82 fixes this and other minor stuff.
