I was able to sort of get windowed DOS sessions working. Full screen DOS sessions work fine for me now. I found a thread here that suggested opening a full screen DOS window and ALT+Tab to make it a windowed and it worked!

You probably mean Alt + Home instead of Alt + Tab ? Alt + Home should also work the other way around: from window to full screen.

When I try to get the dooble at ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/rpm/, I get password required.

ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/rpm/

Is there something wrong with link above?

Nope, the link is correct and has the username already in it: dry (the string before the "@" in the url).
You only have to supply an emailaddress for the password. Dave already explained that in a previous post (reply 123 in this thread, from July 27).

ArcaOS 5.1 installed without any issues on my IBM/Lenovo T60 with ATI Graphics. It auto-detected the onboard audio, onboard wired-LAN and onboard WiFi adapter. It connected to my wired-LAN and got a DHCP address and I can browse with Firefox just fine.

I can't get the WiFi to connect at the moment but that could be me - I'm new to ArcaOS so it's taking me a while to understand how to setup the WiFi connection.

Unfortunately it wouldn't even install on my Lenovo T490s. Even switching the BIOS back to full Legacy mode it won't install. It fails at various stages (depending on whether I set full UEFI, UEFI with CSM, or full Legacy mode) which I've documented and will log a ticket for AN once Mantis is back up and running.

Richard.

Richard,

At the moment mantis.arcanoae.com is up and running, unlike www.arcanoae.com. Maybe a different server?
So you should be able to open a ticket.

General Discussion / Re: when will version 5.1 of ArcaOS be released

I talked a friend of mine into buying ArcaOs a couple weeks ago, imagine my disappointment and his when in just two weeks of ownership 5.1 gets released and he has to pay for it?????  Cmon Arca that is not cricket!

Rick

Complaining here won't change anything. Your friend could try emailing them and explain the situation. Maybe that will result in a better outcome? Worth trying, although of course I cannot guarantee that (I am only a customer of AN).

Looks as if the Arca Noae main server has not been updated (or: upgraded?) to handle the expected traffic :( . Apparently that is not included in the "steps to upgrade our infrastructure", although everybody must log in on that server in order to be able to click on the upgrade button.

Is it possible to install the i686 version over the pentium4 version (installed) ? I tried to remove the pentium4 version of openssl but it won't let me.

Yes, that is possible. When you use ANPM instead of the commandline, you can tell it to install a specific version: use the menu Selected --> Specific release. That will present you with a list of all the available releases of the package you had selected.

Do you perhaps have i686 as the installed platform? If so: change that into pentium4.

The FTP-site is asking for credentials (login and pw) when I try to download.
Any idea what to use?

Mike

login name = dry
password = an email address (your own)

like Dave mentioned in his post directly above your question ;)

Networking / Re: Release IP and Refresh IP from DHCP
« on: July 17, 2023, 05:55:10 pm »
Hello

Can someone please refresh me the techniques to release IP address and refresh/reset the IP (on ArcaOS) to get a new IP from the DHCP?

I have some issues with my VirtualBox VM guest (Host is on Windows 10). I hibernate the ArcaOS VM from the office network,  go home and re enable it, but it does not longer has internet access until I reboot.  Is this an issue of VirtualBox?

Regards

Use the DHCP Monitor for that (dhcpmon.exe - to be found in \mptn\bin). After its window comes up, use the Actions menu to Request a lease or Release a lease.

Regarding your issue: I would suggest that at your office you already use "Release a lease" from within your VM, before hibernating. And at home use "Request a lease". Not sure if it would matter that the DHCP servers at your office and at your home possibly have a different IP address. It could be that  the DHCP Monitor at home tries to use the IP address for the DHCP server that is used in your office.

I suspect that the Prf API is not really good at compressing the INI file, if keys are removed, truncated and/or subsequently enlarged. The only thing that will then (hopefully) help is to actually create a new INI file.

I do not know if checkini/cleanini work this way.

Using checkini from Henk Kelder (part of the WPTools package) seems to work that way: if you tell it to remove things, it produces smaller ini files (and saves a backup copy of the original ini files, if desired). Don't know about cleanini (never used it).

Hardware / Re: ArcaOS on a HP EliteBook 840 G3?
« on: June 22, 2023, 02:58:14 am »
does  ArcaOS 5.0.7 support UEFI? would I need to wait for 5.0.8 or 5.1?

UEFI is only supported in 5.1, so not in 5.0.7 and 5.0.8 (by the way: 5.0.8 is already released)

Should it be easier to upload the .rpm files on the wild on Netlabs? I don't know the process of uploading rpm files on netlabs.

That would mean uploading a .rpm file to rpm.netlabs.org and placing it in release/00/i386/i686 (for the i686 architecture in the release repository) or placing it in experimental/00/i386/i686 (for the i686 architecture in the experimental repository). rpm files for (say) the pentium4 architecture should be placed in release/00/i386/pentium etc.

Networking / Re: NAT Network & Host-Only Network
« on: May 07, 2023, 03:32:01 pm »
Hi ppgrainbow

I seem to recall something about having to set Windows NT4/2000 networking to use a particular setting in order for OS/2 <-> Windows peer networking to work. I'm struggling to remember the exact setting ... something like Use LanMan with a value of 1... Sorry, must be around 20+ years ago.

Maybe that will jog someone elses memory and they will post the exact setting.

Do you mean "lanman auth=" and "NTLMv2 auth=" ?
(as mentioned in this post: https://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.msg16524.html#msg16524)

Networking / Re: KNE 2121+ Network Card - OS/2 Warp Connect
« on: April 30, 2023, 01:11:16 am »
I'm slowly making progress in my quest to get a Tandy/GRiD 386sc installed with OS/2 Warp Connect. I'm now at the stage of trying to get network going. The computer has a Kingston KNE-2121 card installed and have verifed operation under DOS with mTCIP. I'm struggling a bit with OS/2 and just now sure what drivers work. I have started the MPTS config tool and select "LAN adapters and Protocols" - > "Configure" -> "Other Adapters"

I have found KNE-2100 drivers and its broken into 2 disks.

Disk 1:
PCNTNW.OS2

Disk 2:
MSLANMAN.OS2
 -PCNTND.OS2
-PROTOCOL.INI
-PCNTND.NIF

NDIS
-LANSERVR.OS2
--PCNTND.NIF
--PCNTND.OS2
LANSVR30.OS2
--PCNTND.NIF
--PCNTND.OS2

PKTDRV
PCNTPK.COM

After starting MPTS you must first add the network drivers for your card to the list of possible network drivers.
You do that by clicking the button " Install" instead of clicking on the button "Configure". A new window appears with the title "Install Additional Network Drivers", in which you can input where your additional network drivers are to be found. Default is A: for diskette drive A:.Insert your diskette 2 in the diskette drive and select the directory where the NDIS drivers for LANSRV30 are located (if in doubt, there is probably a readme-file on your diskette that says which directory should be chosen for which version of OS/2). Follow the directions on the screen.

After that you can start using the "Configure" button and then again the button "Configure" in the new window with title "Configure". Now you can select your network card in the list with network cards and use the "Add" button.
After that you have to attach one or more net(work protocols to your network card ("Add protocol"). Usually TCP/IP is enough. And finally you must configure TCP/IP. A good choice is not manually using a fixed IP-address, but using a dynamic IP-address instead by using DHCP. Just follow the prompts on your screen.

Programming / Re: Building a Dooble RPM

The %scm_source macro seems to expect three parameters, but in your examples I see only two (the SCM and URL parameters, but no REV parameter).
That is the only obvious thing that I see (I have no experience with building RPMs).
