I installed Warp 3, 4 and 4.52 as VM under Virtualbox 7.0.4 in Arch-Linux.
All 3 work per se, even with 1600x1200 SVGA.
Under Warp 3 everything else I tried works too (also with SMP), e.g. emx-0.9d.

Under Warp 4 and 4.52, calling unzip results in an unresponsive DOS-window or SYS3170 for all unzip versions I tried (32-bit and 16-bit).
The same is true for some other utilities I've tested.
Warpin-1-0-26 yields "SYS1057 - file or pathname invalid in a DOS session",
when called from an OS2 window. Double-click in PM on warpin pops up a
window for a fraction of a second.

I tried many virtualization options (nested paging on/off,
PAE/NX on/off, Standard/KVM/Hyper, 1-4 CPU's ...): always the same result.

I compared the Config.sys of 3, 4 and 4.52 and found nothing unusual.

I can't install unzip, hence no zipped utilities. All self-extracting exe's that I tried return SYS3170.
Taking unzip552 as an example for the unzip's tried:
- 32-bit unzip.exe results an unresponsive DOS-window
- 32-bit funzip.exe yields SYS3170 (screenshot attached), same for 16-bit exe's.

What surprises me is that under the older Warp 3 everything works (in the case
of jm Graphics for emx only the PM window works (VESADLL=VESA_PM), but still).

Can someone explain to me what's going on?

Some questions for you.

When you say that you try calling Warpin-1-0-26 from an OS/2 window:
  • what is the exact filename of the excecutable you try to run? Is it warpin.exe or is it warpin-1-0-26.exe?
  • And what is the name of the directory into which that executable resides? Is it warpin or is it warpin-1-0-26?
  • Which filesystem is used inside your Warp 4 and Warp 4.52 VMs? Is it maybe FAT, or is it HPFS or even JFS (Warp 4.52)?

What I find strange in the picture you attached, is that it mentions exception 330d0686. I have never heard of such an exception.

Need to remember the name of the program to nuke the printers and start over I guess.

You mean prndrv.exe? (from Faxworks by the Keller Group, IIRC)
Can be found here: https://ecsoft2.org/prndrv-os2-printer-driver-installerdeinstaller

Obviously you are not using VDD in the sense of it being the positive voltage in the power supply, so what do you mean by it?

Virtual Device Driver, as opposed to PDD or Physical Device Driver

Hardware / Re: PSCOM.SYS problem

When loading the system, I see:

DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\PSCOM.SYS (1,A010,21) (2,A000,23) /V

How to make two comports with correct parameters (UART: 16550) be determined?

Try using two 'device=' lines: one with (1,A010,21) /V and one with (2,A000,23) /V

device=c:\os2\boot\pscom.sys (1,A010,21) /V
device=c:\os2\boot\pscom.sys (2,A000,23) /V

3072 crashed with a trap.
I tried 2816 with and without highmem.  Didn't crash the system but Dooble exited as usual.

Jordan

In a command window: change to the directory where dooble.exe resides (probably \usr\bin). Then execute dooble.exe from the command prompt, and see if an error message appears after dooble has exited again.

I believe the Dani IDE drivers support your Promise controller. https://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/system/drivers/storage/Danis506_1-8-15.zip.
You will have to copy DaniS506.ADD to your boot floppy, probably including deleting an unwanted driver (lots of useless SCSI drivers there), add "BASEDEV=DaniS506.ADD" to config.sys below your SCSI driver and IIRC, add "SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=TRUE" to config.sys. This will also give you large HD support.
Hopefully if I'm misremebering, someone with a better memory can chime in.

SET copyfromfloppy=1 in the config.sys on diskette 1 (not on the installation diskette), and also place the new driver on diskette 1 (not on the installation diskette)

Utilities / Re: dmidecode and UEFI
« on: November 24, 2022, 11:31:11 pm »
Hi Andy

Do you have any binary release of version 3 to give it a try?

Regards

On https://github.com/abwillis/dmidecode/releases it says "There aren't any releases here".
Source code is available (see e.g. https://github.com/abwillis/dmidecode/archive/refs/tags/dmidecode-3-3.zip), so maybe someone can try to compile that.

F:\qt6\lib>helloworldgui.exe
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not find the Qt platform plugin "os2" in ""
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Is the information in this ticket maybe useful? https://github.com/bitwiseworks/qtbase-os2/issues/77

Paul.

Are you aware of the financial differences between the licensing models for Qt5 and Qt6? Be careful!

My question was based on previous information (around 2020) that Qt would change it's licensing model to 'commercial' for Qt6. If I heard it well, Dmitriy also mentioned this in his interview for Warpstock 2022.

Programming / Re: UEFI and GPT not developed by ArcaNoae - by whom else?

On UEFI Systems there is a separat "EFI" Partition on the HDD, where all the OS have their entrys. The OS are booted from this Partition.

That is the ESP or "EFI System Partition" at the beginning of the disk (100 MB in size)

Hi Tom,

thank you very much for the explanation, my comment before was a bit misleading, sorry.

I mean I have no clue who is doing the work.

I do know what UEFI, Secure Boot and GPT means.

Thanks again!!!

To avoid possible misunderstanding: my only relation with AN is being a customer. I have never worked for them.
I have only given my impressions based on what I have seen and read. Rich knows much more than I do.

Roderick's presentation is described as "Demonstration and Explanation of Secure Boot on ArcaOS which is a project of OS/2 VOICE".
Secure Boot is (as I understand it) connected to UEFI, but not necessary for UEFI.

And UEFI and GPT are not connected at all: there are systems with a classical BIOS (so non-UEFI) and a GPT disk. Both GPT and UEFI just happen to be introduced into OS/2 at the same time, namely in version 5.1 of ArcaOS.

Perhaps I'm missing some DLL required by the Joystick build.

You can use PMDLL to check for missing DLL-dependencies: see https://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/util/system/PMDLL_2-12.zip .
