Applications / [Looking] Info about MS LAN Manager
« on: July 02, 2025, 10:07:32 pm »
Hello everyone.

I am interested in the detailed chronology of LAN Manager.
I have a few questions about this, I hope someone can add to my limited knowledge.
Also, I will provide the information I know. I hope that someone will be able to add.

My preliminary list versions:
– 1.00 (Client), available on WinWorld, it is unknown how complete and which OEM.
– 1.00 (Server) [3Com OEM], https://www.ebay.com/itm/285131666010 , The "slightly" high price
– 1.01 (Server) [Nokia OEM], https://archive.org/details/nokia-ms-lan-manager , presumably, two floppy disks with drivers are missing, which can be obtained from the Nokia OS/2 1.10 distribution.
– 1.10 (Server).[3Com OEM], available in Warez sources uploaded a year ago, slightly damaged.
– 2.00 (Server) (1990-06-28), Microsoft version, only the latest disk is available https://archive.org/details/doswksta7
– 2.00 (Server) (1990-11-29), it is unknown whether OEM or Generic. It is unknown why there are two editions. https://winworldpc.com/download/5d7a42cb-9ce2-82ac-c3bd-11c3a5c28f13
– 2.10 (Server). Released in 1992, missing
– 2.10a (Server). Released in 8/1992, missing
– 2.10c (Client), for PC-98
– 2.20 (Server) (English-US) https://archive.org/details/microsoft-lan-manager-2.2, missing OS/2 disks
– 2.20 (Server) (French),it's not very high-quality, but a good dump is available on Win3x.org
– 2.20a (Server), available in wareze sources
– 2.20b (Server, patch). Update patch for 2.20/2.20A
– 2.20c (Client).

Server versions 1.0/1.1 were equipped with a special version of OS/2 Server Adaptation (SA). OS/2 SA 1.10 has already been found (1.01 Nokia, 1.10 3Com). Presumably, there was an OS/2 release of 1.00 SA.

What I want to find:
– Any additions to my list (photos, another versions, another OEMs)
– Distributions of releases that I do not have
– LM distribution package 1.00, which presumably includes OS/2 1.0 SA
–information about localizations. Were LAN Manager versions 2.1/2.2 the only localized releases of LM?
–What is the reason for the existence of two versions 2.00?
–If I have any mistakes, I will be glad if you correct them.

And also, I want to get an answer to the question:
Explain which editions of LAN Manager actually existed?
You can often (always) find LM distributions on the Internet that don't have all the components. And the question arises, was it really a stripped-down edition, or did those who downloaded it exclude some of the floppy disks from the package for some reason?
I know for sure that there were two editions:
– LAN Manager Server (For example, 2.2). It includes DOS Workstation, OS/2 Workstation, OS/2 Server drivers, protocols for Netware and WfW.
– LAN Manager Client (for example, 2.2c). There are only DOS Workstation and OS/2 Workstation floppy disks.
Were there any other editions?
Workstation = Client?
did I understand correctly that the Client versions do not include OS/2?

Sorry for the complicated query. I hope for your  help.

P.S. Does anyone have versions of MS-NET/MS NETWORK? This is a topic for future study, so far I have not touched it. In the case of MS-Net, nothing is clear at all.

Best regards.

Applications / [Looking] Word for DOS 2.01
« on: May 22, 2025, 07:51:32 am »
Hello, everyone.

I am posting this request with Martin's permission, although it is not directly related to OS/2.

I'm looking for one rare minor version of MS Word for DOS.
This is Word 2.01. This version was released in October 1985.
This release included a fix for printer drivers. The floppy disks used copy protection similar to version 2.00.

I'm looking for it in any form. These can be either installation floppy disk images or a pre-installed copy from an old hard drive.

In addition, there could be a network version 2.01N with copy protection. 2.01N I have never seen, so there is no evidence of its existence.

Does anyone still have this old version?

Best regards.

Applications / [Looking] Excel for OS/2 2.21
« on: May 18, 2025, 09:55:01 am »
Hello everyone.

For 15 years now, I have been haunted by the mythical version of Excel 2.21 for OS/2.

It was an Excel 2.20 update release. It was released in two forms:
– patch release updating the already installed version 2.20. It was distributed on a single floppy disk. I do not know what the conditions for providing this patch are. It was probably necessary to own a 2.20 license.
– full package.

The program definitely existed, as it is often mentioned in MS KB articles and software catalogs.
Version 2.21 fixed many printing and font issues, as well as improved compatibility with OS/2 1.2.

This particular version has not been preserved in any source. It looks like Excel 2.21 has been on the market for a very short time and has not received any distribution.

I assume that the release date roughly corresponds to the second half of 1990.

Is there anyone here who still has the full distribution, a patch floppy disk, or a pre-installed program?

I also don't know what floppy disks look like. American floppy disks could be labeled identical to version 2.20. European floppy disks could be labeled AV2.21. At the same time, the contents of European floppy disks should be identical.

Best regards

Applications / [LOOKING] OS/2 1.x, Word/Excel for OS/2 related stuff
« on: September 14, 2023, 02:15:46 pm »
Dear OS/2 World Community.

I've been studying the chronology and early history of OS/2 (1.x/2.0) for a while now.
It is extremely difficult to find any information, since many years have passed since the release of these products.

I'm looking for any material related to early versions of OS/2.
OEM releases and localized versions are especially interesting.

I'm looking for literally everything: photos, scans, screenshots.

Thanks to collaboration with Martin Iturbide, it was possible to expand information about existing OS/2 releases.
It was on his recommendation that I decided to turn to this forum.
Perhaps someone still has a rare package that fits the described criteria? It would be interesting to see photos of the box, floppy disks, and screenshots.

In addition to OS/2, I am interested in information about Word/Excel for OS/2.
I'm looking for photos of boxes and disks. I know this is very difficult to find.
May be if some of you saved this?

Has anyone come across CorelDRAW 2.0 for OS/2?
Tell me about this rare version.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
