Title: OpenOffice Spreadsheet charts
Post by: Neil Waldhauer on January 17, 2021, 06:01:02 pm
Starting with version 4.1.8, charts seem to vanish in the following scenario.

1. Edit the chart
2. Save the spreadsheet in .ODS format
3. Close Open Office
4. Open the spreadsheet; the chart is gone

A potential workaround is to save in .XLS format instead

I opened a bug report as described in the readme. Thanks to all who helped me get an account to report this.

I see that too. I did some research, and found that the OS/2 version fails to save the chart. If I do exactly the same thing in windows AOO 4.1.8, it does what it is supposed to do. I can then open the sheet in OS/2, and the chart is there. If I then close, with save, and open it again, it is gone. Actually that isn't quite right, because there is a small blank spot where the chart should be. The chart is gone in windows too.

I haven't had the time to try to report this. I do remember reporting something a couple of years ago, and it took hours to work through the reporting procedure. FWIW, there is a report that describes the problem. It was dismissed as being an invalid chart setup (obviously wrong, but I haven't looked recently so there may be more).

Never thought about saving as .XLS. I will try that. At least it is a work around. Thanks...

Have not used the spreadsheets since upgrading AOO to v4.1.8, just opened up my spam stats, no changes made to the charts or the chart data but I did add a note to a separate column, saved the spreadsheet, exited, then opened that spreadsheet again and the charts are gone, just a blank space on each page.
So.. the problem is easy to verify.

Glad everything is backed up!

Hi Neil,

Thank you for the report!

Could you please have a look at:
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=128426

Although this is for macOS it sounds similar.
Fortunately it could be solved with a rebuild on macOS, so maybe Yuri can do some tests with the (soon to be released on Windows, macOS, Linux) version 4.1.9 of Apache OpenOffice.

I don't have a Mac available to test, but the description seems to match the problem I see on ArcaOS.

Hi Neil,

Yes, it sounds similar.

Fortunately, this issue could be fixed with a rebuild and didn't need code changes.
Maybe Yuri can try different compiler switches? AOO 4.1.9 was released yesterday.

Regards,
   Matthias

I recently updated libicu to version 68 (to try the QTWebtest browser) and am now getting crashes in OpenOffice 4.1.8 - anyone else see this? The Quickstart almost always crashes at boot, and going to 'Tools->Options' always crashes...

Hi David,
Yes i had this to.
I did some debugging with Silvan about this.
Seems the i18npool.dll is the cullpit

But when you copy the dll's from v65 back to the OO /program dir, the crashes are gone.
Or go back to v0.65

 Hi Tellie

OK, then it's not just my system. I was going to report it, but I guess Silvan already knows. I have gone back to version 65 and it works fine that way, thanks.

Regards,

Hi Neil,

Were you able to test AOO 4.1.11?
The problem should be fixed...

I haven't seen a build of OpenOffice 4.1.11 yet. I do not have a system set up to do AOO builds.

Someone should tell OS/2 World about it. It deserves to be promoted.

Did you guys who have it installed verify the bug Matthias Seidel asked about?

Same experience as Remy...thought it kind of sad that I needed Win stuff to carry on with my OS/2 "latest & greatest" though  ???!

To be honest, if we only use OS/2 friendly services we run out of possibilities very fast.
But I personally had no issue downloading it with OS/2. On Win I'm not using firefox since long, so I didn't test that. Chrome and Edge run ok.

Download works fine with Firefox under OS/2 or Linux, as long as you have allowed third party cookies. Allowing 3rd party cookies is a stupid idea as far as security goes for dropbox but that's the way of the world now.

Have a problem,

Since I restored my system, Open office (latest  build under AN 507) crashes as sooon I open an existing open doc !
I had this issue at AN migration time to 5.07 and I resolved it installing latest Aoo but it already is at this latest level;
I uninstalled Aoo (WPI uninstall + remove of remaining paths) and re-installed it, reinstalled all impacted libraries via ANPM but nothing helps !
my libiuc is at a previous level as suggested (Did a try with latest build but same)
Any idea   how to have it work again ?
It is very impacting... (have my current work under it)
Thanks

I just found !
I install the Aoo rpm wpi package which should not be installed having all requirements already installed...
But after installing it, no crash !  (It looks like many dll requires back level or a different level them the lastest ANPM update.... Strange
