Setup & Installation / SYS 1201 error during boot.
« on: March 22, 2018, 10:54:42 am »
During booting to eCS 2.1 I get this message: SYS 1201: The device driver C:/IBMCOM/PROTOCOL/LANVDD.OS2 specified in the DEVICE statement on line 42 of the CONFIG.SYS file was not installed. Press Enter to continue.
The driver is in the mentioned address. So why this error message and what to do about it?  And what is the function of LANVDD.OS2?  The installation of eCS is quite new on a new disk after a disk crash.
Thank you for any help.

Setup & Installation / Can't install ArcaOS.
« on: November 07, 2017, 10:51:00 pm »

The problem is that ArcaOS can't see the volume I just created to install the os to. The volume is not in the target list.
A week ago I installed a new SSD disk and then installed eCS2.2b to it. Then I tried to install ArcaOS. The procedures are mutch the same for the two OS's. When I came to selecting the target volume, eCS (c:) showed up as the possible volume. Having a lot of place I created a new volume (d:) for ArcaOS. The next step was to select d: as the target volume, but the install program didn't list it as a possible target. Only c:. At the end I rebooted eCS and there the d: was available. I formatted it as  JFS and restarted the install program. No, it still was not available as a target volume. Using the Graphical Volume Manager I could check it. Ok, but it still doesn't appear in the list of target volumes. So I'm stuck. Just one strange thing. In the Graphical Volum Manager it says it is formatted as "JFS H". What does that means?
Any ideas about what to do?

Setup & Installation / Missing content in ANPM
« on: October 31, 2017, 12:28:16 pm »
I had to buy a new disk (SSD). This disk I want to use as the place for OS's - ArcaNoae, win, ecs.
I started installing eCS 2.2b. Went well. Then I checked for internet  connection - OK. Next step was to install ANPM and downloaded it from AN. Installed it using WarpIN 1.0.19. Got a message about an old version of a dll and had to remove it. Then the installation went fine, and I could start ANPM. Again all was OK..
The list with installed packages seemed to be fine. A lot of the packages were marked with a "star" to inform that this packages had newer versions. That was to be expected as the installation of eCS2.2b was from an installation disk/DVD from 2015.
The list of available packages was, as expected, very long.
I started the update process. About 60 packages were to be updated. It seemed to take some time, so I left the Desktop for a while.
Coming back the job was done. When I opened ANPM there was nothing. The list of installed packages was empty, so was the list of available packages and so was the list of repositories.
The install log was long without error messages and showed that the job took about 8 minutes.

So what to do now.

I de-installed and re-installed the ANPM. Same result.
I de-installed, rebooted, and installed again. Same result.

But there was a difference from the first installation: The installation took less then a second. A message was displayed, but just for a fraction of a second, I could not read it. But WarpIN ended with a message about success and updated Config file. The install log was empty.

I believe the problem has something to do with the missing names of the repositories, and I have tried to find some solution, but with no luck.

Now I hope you can help me.

Setup & Installation / How do I ...?
« on: October 23, 2017, 10:27:52 pm »
My SSD disk crashed totally and I had to buy a new one. All my OS's were on the old disk. After installing OS2.2 I hoped I would be able to access data on another disk. All volumes on that disk are visible, but now without drive letters. I have set new drive letters (the same as before) and they are now marked with an asterisk (*). According to the help file I should just save, exit and  reboot, and the chosen drive letters should be set.
Well, not so. After rebooting they are all gone. Then my question is: How do I proceed to get the drive letters set?

Article Discussions / Speedtest - broadband speed
« on: February 13, 2017, 11:37:32 am »
I just upgraded  my fiber into my house. The speed was 50/50 Mbps, but after the upgrade it should be 300/300 Mbps. When I run a speed test program it shows about 95/95 under eCS, but 300/300 under Win10. Same PC.
What or where is the weak point under eCS?

Setup & Installation / Problems with Flash Player
« on: February 10, 2017, 02:21:40 pm »
I recently installed eCS2.2B on a new partition because I had to much trouble with the old installation (also eCS2.2B). The new installation should be a clean one. In both installations I have installed FF 38.8.0, and I have installed Flash (warp-in) from the same downloaded folder. All requirement is followed. I have compared the two installations and they are identical (config.sys, moz_plugin_path etc).
Anyway I can't run videos based on Flash. I always get this message: Sorry, you need Flash to play this. Enable it in your browser or download Flash Player here.  I have deinstalled and reinstalled Flash Player a couple of times and get the message about successful installation.
Any ideas that can help me?

What is the differences between these packages and why should they not be mixed. It looks like Lars package is updated much more frequently then ANs.
Lars has an updated package 2017/01/16 and the last one from AN I downloaded 2016/09/06 but seems to be from March 2016

Article Discussions / What program for font preview
« on: January 19, 2017, 02:36:48 pm »
I have hundreds of fonts in some folders. I have downloaded them from internet and the intention was to use some of them in Scribus. But of course I have lost track of them. I need to delete many of them, but which ones?
Is there a program that can, in a simple way, display them, preferable many at the same time.

Cheers

Applications / Where are my repository data?
« on: December 13, 2016, 10:15:00 pm »
I just have installed eCS 2.2 to a new partition. I still have full access to the old version. After installation I have reinstalled some applications like Apache OO, Thunderbird, GenealogyJ etc. An easy task as I usually have them in a separate partition. For each of the applications I checked against ANPM if all the required  DLLs are installed. After downloaded Scribus I  checked for the required DLLs, and found the ANPM window empty - there was nothing. Under the YUM heading I tried to run different commands - Cleanup, Maintenance - but to no help. A message as shown was displayed. Nothing really happened when I pressed OK. Only the rotating progress symbol was displayed for a fraction of a second.
A clip from the ANPM.log tells something, but I don't know how I can use it.

It looks like the whole problem started at 13 Dec 2016 14:21:34 when it says installed Python. But Python seems to be the scripting language ANPM itself uses. Something here?
I hope someone can help me.

Hardware / I need help!
« on: November 15, 2016, 11:21:10 am »
I'm giving up my desktop PC. Or the PC is giving  me up. Or I'm giving up eCs after about 25 years!!
So far I have had  desktops, but I think it is stupid to buy a new one. I need a laptop where I can install both OS2/eCs and Win10. The short question is: what do you recommend.
I am using  programs like Scribus (does not work any more under eCs), GenealogyJ and a lot of picture handling. I don't mention the programs like Thunderbird,  Firefox, OpenOffice, PMView etc. I use the PC every day and often for many hours.
I should absolutely like to run these programs under OS2.  I have connected scanner (does not work under eCs), printer (have to be postscript to print).
As you see, this is not a very special installation.
I want to be able to connect a "normal" keyboard and  a "big" screen
Some years ago I installed a SSD disk. I guess that was the time when AirBoot started to give me a lot of trouble. Today I reboot "manually".

So what can you recommend.

Thank you.

Applications / FF and TB not running at the same time.
« on: July 19, 2016, 08:45:31 pm »
The problem has nothing to do with "run!"
I am running TB 31.8.0 and FF 38.2.1
I can start each of them if the other is not running. If FF is running and I try to start TB nothing happens. If I try to start FF when TB is running I get this message:
"The application has been updated, but your version of SQLite is too old and the application cannot run."
If I then run ANPM to update SQLite. The message is than There is no newer version.
Then I try to delete SQLite using ANMP. The message this time is a long list of packages including Python and RPM and a message: You have selected to uninstall at least one package which is required for package management framework to function. This operation cannot proceed.
I then look into the content of SQLite (using ANPM). It lists only sqlite3.exe, sqlit3.dll, readme and sqlite3.1(without extension). I thought these would be the parts that would be uninstalled, but ANPM would do a deeper cleaning.

Any suggestions of how to proceed?

Setup & Installation / How to extend the size of the swapper file
« on: March 16, 2016, 01:48:48 pm »
When I run Scribus with a document with a "lot" of images I get the error message: QImage: out of memory, returning null image. When running Scribus I also can see the available memory during the process. Normally the shared memory starts with about 160 MB, but ends (while loading the document) with 0 MB. So yes: Out of memory.
I thought that when this happened OS2 would use the swapper file, but the size of the swapper file does not change. I then changed the CONFIG.sys setting from SWAPPATH=E:\OS2\SYSTEM 2048 2048 to SWAPPATH=E:\OS2\SYSTEM 16384 2048, rebooted and checked the size. It was still 2048 kB. The Property book shows that the file is used. As I have about 4000 MB physical memory and 2400 MB virtual memory that should not be a problem.
Can anyone help?
