Title: ArcaOS - OS/2 keyboard shortcuts.
Post by: Martin Iturbide on July 03, 2018, 01:34:32 am
Hi

I want  to consolidate the ArcaOS keyboard shortcuts on the OS2World wiki.  I would like to know which OS/2 keyboard shortcuts documentation do you know about?

On Google I had found:
- http://aggedor.freeshell.org/os2key.html

Any other source with keyboard shortcuts that I may be missing?

Regards

Hi

I found this shortcuts on the lists that I don't now exactly what it does or if those belongs to some specific program or session on OS/2.

- Ctrl + ALT + Shift + o Display list of OS/2 developers (secret from the Desktop focus)
- ALT + (Keypad 1 + 2) Insert page break (form feed) in text
- Shift + ALT + Backspace Redo (undoes last Undo)
- Ctrl + Spacebar Select one object, deselect others
- Shift + F8 Switch between single and multiple selection
- Ctrl + h Viewed Pages - Display a list of all of the topics you have read in a Helpsession

Any tip is welcome.

I didn't check if it contains any shortcut which isn't listed in the websites you have posted, but this is IBM's list of keyboard shortcuts for Warp 3. I am not aware of any newer one.
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/sns/sr-os2/warpkeys.txt

- Ctrl + ALT + Shift + o Display list of OS/2 developers (secret from the Desktop focus)

Thanks for that. It seems it no longer works on ArcaOS. So I will remove it from the list I'm making.

For IBM applications:
Alt+F6  Toggle between child and parent window
(I found that it doesn't work for help windows.)

Is for IBM applications that has several windows inside it? Do you have some examples of which applications?

No.

Alt+F6 is useful for me for non-modal popup windows. That are windows that were set to always be on the the top of the main application window:

1. The color palette: When you doubleclick on a color, the 'Edit Color' dialog window opens. Then you can toggle the focus between the color palette window and the 'Edit Color' window. Note that the 'Edit Color' window apparently is set to be always be on top of the application.

2. EPM: After opening the serach window (EPM: Ctrl+S, NEPMD (CUA): Ctrl+F), the focus can be toggled between the main edit window and the serach window, which is also set to be on top.

Someone should try if it works on a Warp installation, without NewView.

BTW: It would be handy to have that working for help windows as well.

Thanks Andreas.

I didn't have that one on the lists.  I also checked on Styler and Alt+F6 also works to go from the parent to the child window, but it does not toggle back.  I will check more and add it to the list on the wiki.

Hi

Here it is the Wiki article I had been working on: "ArcaOS 5.x Keyboard Shortcuts (https://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/ArcaOS_5.x_Keyboard_Shortcuts)‎‎"

Any other shortcuts or more information about the "Not sure how it works" is welcome.

This is a short list, probably nothing you don't already have.

Hi. I actually haven't tried on ArcaOS these two.

Ctrl+Shift+F1 : To suppress auto-start for the current boot only, press Ctrl+Shift+F1 when the single-color desktop background (without any icons) first appears, and hold these keys down until your desktop icons appear on the screen.
Note that you must use the left shift key, not the right shift key when performing this hot-key sequence.

Ctrl+Alt+Num Lock (Twice) : You can capture the OS/2 Trap screen by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Num Lock (twice). Insert a blank diskette and wait until it's filled up, then reboot the machine. In e.exe or epm.exe, open the binary soup and look for the trap screen. Copy paste it.

I will check it out, any additional comments are welcome.

Hi

Is "Ctrl+Shift+F1" the same thing as pressing "Shift" when the desktop is loading to show the "ArcaOS Desktop Panic" on ArcaOS 5.x?

On Warp 4.5x, was the idea of "Ctrl+Shift+F1" to avoid the load of everything on the "Startup folder" ?

Hi

I know that someone on earth may find it useful, but should the default action of "PrtScr" button on ArcaOS 5.0 be changed?

I am updating Gotcha! (screen capture utility). It now can be run in the background. It captures all the Print screen key combos.
Print screen & Shift Print Screen send the screen, a screen region, a window or a window interior to a file (selected or a default name)
Ctrl print screen does the same except sends the image to the clipboard
Alt Print Screen opens the setting.

It still needs some final design decisions and the documentation needs updating but it should be ready in the not to distant future.

I am updating Gotcha! (screen capture utility).

Gregg's done a great job of transforming a poorly designed app into an alternate version he calls Gotcha-Quiet that "just works". No unnecessary windows cluttering your Desktop, no pointless popups - just press PrintScrn and it captures whatever you set as your default (window, screen, etc).

If you need change what's captured (say, an area of the screen rather than a window), just press Alt-PrintScrn to bring up its Settings. There you can press a button to do the kind of capture you need on a one-off basis, or you can change any of the defaults (capture type, directory they're saved in, etc.).

It's a vast improvement. Kudos to Gregg!

BTW... if you're a fan of bad design, the original version is still available. Gregg's made improvements to that one too.

Hi.

It is good to know we are going to have a new version of Gotcha soon.

Returning to the main subject of shortcuts, if someone can provide me feedback if "Ctrl+Shift+F1" works on ArcaOS, please let me know. From my side I think it does not work anymore. It just take it as "Shift" on the IFX boot and "Shift" on the desktop boot for the "ArcaOS Panic Desktop".

Does anybody knows a way to produce a trap that can easily reverted? I want to try the "Ctrl+Alt+Num Lock (Twice)" on a VM with a virtual floppy to see if it still works.

Ctrl, left Shift on WPS start prevents the startup folder from running.  As I recall, that is overridden when xworkplace is installed and instead is replaced by the Desktop Panic you mention above.  By default, xworkplace-lite is installed and thus by default the Ctrl, left Shift, and F1 is overridden.

I am not sure what you mean by "Does anybody knows a way to produce a trap that can easily reverted?".
Ctrl-alt-num-num or Ctrl-Alt-F10-F10 will produce a system dump.

I may be confused, I thought that this key was only available when you get a trap error. I will give it a try.
