Applications / Re: Test build of dooble with qt5

Hi Dave

Same warning - this is in Settings.
Should there be *.bdic files in the zip package?

Hi Dave

Installed the dictionary files and set the environment path to J:\usr\share\qt5\qtwebengine_dictionaries\en
Doodle gives the warning that it cannot find file J:\usr\share\qt5\qtwebengine_dictionaries\en\en_GB.bdic - not surprising as it is not in the zip package. I wonder, Do the *.dic files need to be renamed to *.bdic ?

Setup & Installation / Re: CUPS tripped up SeaMonkey and Firefox
« on: February 10, 2024, 03:29:16 am »
Hi beregond

The program Dave Yeo is referring to is probably prndrv.exe which can be found here  https://www.os2site.com/sw/comm/fax/prndrv.zip

Enter prndrv on the command line to get a list of options.

Setup & Installation / Re: CUPS tripped up SeaMonkey and Firefox
« on: February 09, 2024, 03:37:40 am »
Hi beregond

I have seen this problem in the distant past and think it was basically an out-of-memory error caused by experimenting with cups and generating a large non-printing print queue. I think the only solution is to move cups daemon from the Computer -> Startup folder (move it into Computer) and reboot then check that Seamonkey starts.

If that is successful you will then need to clear the cups print queue.

With Seamonkey running doubleclick cups daemon to start cups.
Point Seamonkey to cups admin gui at http://localhost:631
Click on the Printers tab
Click on your printer
In the Maintenance dropdown box select Cancel All Jobs
In the Administration dropdown box select Modify printer to check the printer settings are correct
Move cups daemon back into the Startup folder

Hope the above is of help

Pete

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: USB to Parallel
« on: February 08, 2024, 12:59:08 am »
Hi Martin

Yes, cups works with usb printers - or did last time I tried a few years ago. Does not use the usbprt.sys driver, uses libusb/usbcalls for output.
No idea if that would work better/faster with a usb to parallel lead though...

Hardware / Re: The last nail in OS/2's coffin
« on: February 02, 2024, 06:51:09 pm »
Hi All

I have to join in to say that I have been looking for a replacement OS since IBM announced OS/2's demise in 2000(?) and have not found anything that I am as happy to use.

The main problem I am currently bumping into is the same as everyone else: We do not have a capable browser. Seamonkey (and, I guess, Firefox) no longer work very well - if at all - on a lot of websites; Doodle (qt5) is simply too flaky to use due to crashes and system hangs.

Thanks to all who have kept OS/2 alive to date.

Hi Doug

I think all later/current mainboards have the warning about only supporting 64 bit OS's - my B450 does but that does not stop AOS 5.1 from installing and running.

Hi All

It's possible the x600 is failing - must be fairly old by now  :-)
I had a x600pro a few years back which started to fail, could only be used in VBE mode as switching to accelerated mode resulted in a badly messed up display.

If Doug wants a recommendation for a replacement card the Radeon RX550 works fine with the Panorama driver.

Hi All

I seem to have found a problem with DFSee 17 and creating Desktop objects.
In the dfsee bin directory is the file dfswpobj.cmd which is meant to create all DFSee Desktop objects.
When I run that file it reports lots of objects created successfully - and nothing appears on the Desktop.
Anyone else seeing this? - you will need to delete existing DFSee Desktop objects to test this so I suggest Desktop backup *before* testing.

Hi Andrew

Can you print from QP?
If "Yes" , select to Print then select Properties.
Select the Output tab then check Print to Raw Postscript File and enter where to save file to.
Then you can use [Unixroot]:\usr\bin\ps2pdf.cmd to convert from PS tp PDF eg

J:\USR\BIN>ps2pdf S:\Backups\H\18032011\test.ps S:\Backups\H\18032011\test.pdf

J:\USR\BIN>

The above converts a 2 page PS file to a 2 page PDF file successfully, Lucide has no problems displaying it.

Hope the above helps

Hi Dave

Memory nudge: daniatapi.flt replaces the 2 files IBMATAPI.FLT and IBMIDECD.FLT

Hi mauro

Copy danis506.add and daniatap.flt to [BootDrive]:\os2\boot

Open [BootDrive]:\config.sys and add the following 2 lines

BASEDEV=DANIS506.ADD /!BIOS
BASEDEV=DANIATAP.FLT

then REM the start of these lines if they exist

BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD
BASEDEV=IBMATAPI.FLT
BASEDEV=IBMIDECD.FLT

Save config.sys

Reboot

Test DFSee

Applications / Re: ArcaOS 5.1.0 and cups
« on: January 14, 2024, 07:42:18 pm »
Hi Martin

I get the same result with lpinfo -m when the cups daemon has not been started.
Is the cups daemon in the(a) Startup folder?

If "No" simply start cups daemon by doubleclicking [UnixRoot]:\usr\sbin\cupsd.exe

Then retry lpinfo -m
