Should "dos2unix" and "unix2dos" be on the /dev directory?
No, it's not (only) a tool for developing, more a general tool.

I read that is a more like a "text processing utility" or "text convert tool". Will it be fine to go on "/pub/os2/util/convert"?
That seems to be the best destination IMO.

thinking it better maybe "/pub/os2/dev/tools/parsers".
No.

In my file from 23-02-2002, I have: /pub/os2/dev/proglang

Either one would be OK for me (proglang, compilers or lang). "lang" has already another meaning, see the env var "LANG". BTW, there exist compilers and interpreters, so compilers might not be a suited place for e.g. REXX tools.

Martin, I have started to write something together on 2022-02-23. Just let me rework and continue that. It may took a few more days.

I don't remember the rest of this thread. But wouldn't it suffice to just update os2-base? That changes the platform.

That's usually not required. Without details that lead to a reproducible scenario, that's not very useful.

Hi Rich, thanks for making the internal delay configurable. I have set it to 700 after installing your version 1.0.15 over Andi's last one and shutdown works now properly again. (Take my MSI FM2+ system as one that needs more delay than your default value of 250 ms. And there are surely more who don't like the beeps of the other delay.)

Added: Just found the mentioned ticket. Add here's Rich's rev. 1452 in Trac.

Setup & Installation / Re: ArcaOS, VirtualBox, and mouse freezes

Bennie, does your mouse work in a normal ArcaOS installation, without virtualization, on the same hardware?

(I guess, the same as Pete, that it's a VirtualBox issue on Redhat.)

Yes, you are right. But when I see which tools are below /pub/os2/dev that aren't languages, I find it confusing to have a few under /pub/os2/dev/tools. I would just move /pub/os2/dev/tools with their dirs to /pub/os2/dev. Example: /pub/os2/dev/make.

IMO another dir that could receive some rework is /pub/os2/dev/util. In case of the one that I've contributed (htext201.zip), all files in /pub/os2/dev/help are rather utils. So why have some of them below dev/utils and others below dev?

Another dir is /pub/os2/dev/misc. I don't have an idea so far. So, there are utils, tools and misc. I would either remove them all or move many packages to either utils or tools and remove the others.

OK, That sounds reasonable. But generally, I prefer to have that stuff below the language dir itself. For the mentioned case it would be /dev/smalltalk/tools instead of /dev/tools/smalltalk.

IMO /dev/tools should be completely removed.

(It should be avoided that someone has to look for something in multiple dirs.)

Sweden must be "ahead" of most of the world as it seems, as almost everyone once upon a time agreed on "windows" and with that also accepted to update toward a promize all the time. Many sites these days refuse to let one in if one fall behind the browser updates the slightest. Even what appear as plain text sites tend to check and require only new browers.
No, there's only one Internet and the differences between states decrease. It's same here in Germany.

The exception is ... OS/2 World.
Sure, and a few others. Additionally, some can be made work by switching JavaScript off or by using an add blocker. But there are not many sites that work completely.

BTW: IIRC, you need sysinstx only when the filesystem has changed. (Not really sure, if this is correct.)

Good to here that it works now. Interesting, thanks for the detailed info.

I guess you've used DFSee for cloning?

Ok, you've written that you've used DFSee in the other thread.

It works only for a VIO screen, not for a PM window.

If I open a windowed OS/2 cmd "Window" (not full screen), then CLS works.
That's just a special PM window that uses internally VIO functions for display.

I use DFsee (or dfsanos2 via minilvm) to create partitions. All my SSDs (including Samsung 860 EVO, 500 GB) work.

Never heard of such problems. Do you have the default options for DFSee changed?
