General Discussion / Re: OS4 kernel and associated files
« on: May 19, 2015, 09:42:54 pm »
I do not have a comport.log to submit for now (no null-modem cable).
I might try a drive a time, the most likely?

The message you've got says that there was a DevHelper called in interrupt time which can't be called in interrupt time.

The problem was most likely created by some driver you have. I would suggest to remove all not necessary drivers and try to boot again.

Comport log is very welcome, as it may help resolve the problem. At least it would help find out which devhelper was called and this had called the problem.

If you want  you may try to contact me at netlabs IRC channel.

I don't know if this is the correct place but here goes.

One of my guys at work today asked how the OS4 kernel project was getting on ans since I didn't know I downloaded the latest (os2krnlSVN4363_unoff.zip) to have a look see.

Unzipping produces frustration.
The read me is from 2008 but since the install shouldn't have changed that is OK.
Whatnew is several versions old and has the last couple of entries in Russian.

OS4APIC.PSD does have reasonable documentation.

Clock03b.sys, doscall1.dll and screen03.sys are just there with no information about them at all.  Looking in doscall1, it appears to be a special build for the SMP version of OS4.

It would help if those doing this work would give some indication of what these three are for and what we can expect from using them.  I assume the doscall1.dll is a direct replacement - if so how do you get back to using the IBM version or does it work with the IBM SMP kernel?  Are the two sys files replacements or do they work in conjunction with the IBM versions?

I could try replacing everything on a test machine, and most probably will if the night shift becomes too boring, but it would be helpful if there was some indication of what did what and what should happen.

If anyone can throw any light on this I will be very thankful.

hi,  you can find some details here http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Phoenix_OS/4

Question for everyone - with the ATI 9800XT, I get back Dos/Win sessions, with my X850 PE is a no go.  So, is there any X series cards that support Dos/Win sessions ?
Greggory

I have X850,   Dos/Win sessions work full screen only. If i try to run it in a window - a trap happened.

It is said that the FF DLLs (including XUL.DLL) can now be loaded high, but it is not clear if that is already done, or if a user needs to do something to get that to happen. Anybody know?

https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/releases

.... XUL.DLL finally loadable into high memory (using e.g. this tool https://www.dropbox.com/sh/350r8h2dpuxsg8w/AABAiWkeaXL45H00M7SUJTCKa/aoo/highmem-20140406-os2.zip?dl=1)....

so you need a tool  to load xul.dll into HMA

I would suggest to look for mobo with on board com port or at least with  PCI slot to be able plug a PCI-to-COM.

Perhaps I will put OS/4 into a virtual machine, and test it there.

Okay, I made an eCS 2.2 (with updates)  boot system in VBox. Added QSINIT and OS/4. Modified ACPI.PSD (3.22.03), and added the "/ST=0" parameter. It then stopped at RESOURCE.SYS. The "fix" for that was to add the PRELOAD parameter to the OS/4 startup selection in OS2LDR.INI (I don't find that to be a requirement, in the docs).

Tnx, Doug

This case has to be investigated.  I am always using PRELOAD so have never seen this issue with ACPI.PSD.

Sound is broken with the 24esr branch as they removed the library that we used for sound and until someone ports the new library...
The new library is libcubeb,  git://github.com/kinetiknz/cubeb.git if anyone wants to port it.

could you share FF24 with sound ?  just to test :)

what PSD do you use ?  in case ACPI.PSD,  hope  it is patched  and /ST=0   is added to command line

I use the latest ACPI from Arca Noae (3.22.06).

I think somebody had better smarten up, and at least document things like that, if they want users to do testing for them.

Meanwhile, OS/4 is, again, broken IMO.

Hi Doug :)

It was mentioned in the previous post that ACPI.PSD has to be patched and to be use  with /ST=0 in it's command line.

In case you are not making a joke of it, here is a patches for ACPI.PSD http://gus.biysk.ru/os4/Patches/AcpiPsdPatches.rar.  Now, it includes a patch for your 3.22.06 too.
