CUPS install has NOTHING, at all, to do with the printer type, and model.
So you are saying the the rpm/yum install installs all the various backends regardless of if they are needed or not. I would have thought that the installer would at least want to know which printer type to allow it to install the correct backend.
Sorry but I am first and foremost an engineer and have this tendency to apply that thinking to computers and their software. After all computers are supposed to be logical machines, but what I am seeing with this rpm/yum thing does not appear that logical.
