Hi    Martin

The PAF website is long gone but if you want to experiment you will need to rummage through these packages  http://www.os2site.com/sw/util/paf/

I tend to agree with Olafurs brief review.

Hi roberto

When you state "ecs22beta2+updates" does that include JFS 1.09.06 from Arca Noae?

I ask because I had problems with that update which I could only resolve by reverting to the JFS 1.09.05 supplied with eCS2.2beta2

If there is some sort of system crash it is possible that hard drive volumes seem "clean" to jFS autocheck on reboot but if it is possible that the volumes can be "Dirty but marked as Clean"  - I think that is the wording used by chkdsk - so a standard /AUTOCHECK:* will not work.

With JFS 1.09.05 and earlier it is possible to Force a chkdsk at boot by using the parameter /AUTOCHECK:+* for all volumes or specify individual volumes /AUTOCHECK:+D+G

JFS 1.09.06 does not support the /AUTOCHECK:+ parameter so it is not possible to force a chkldsk at boot when using that JFS release.

I also found that JFS 1.09.06 could lose a volume at boot - chkdsk does not report the volumes existence during boot and when booted to the Desktop that volume is missing. Sometimes simply running LVM and Saving when Exiting without making any changes made the volume available; sometimes it needed a reboot.

Hi Martin

Looks like the same guy who started PAF...  and never seemed to finish it.

Hi Martin

I saw those recently... Looking through my History you want this url http://88watts.net/download/ - those packages are at the top.

HI Greg

Try the install again with Modern Hardware, ACPI mode and add the parameter /VW - this limits the number of IRQs to 16.

General Discussion / Re: Open Source / 2

Hi All

Looking through the newsgroups comp.os.os2.apps and comp.os.os2.misc I noticed a post with the subject Creating an open source OS/2 kernel.

Looks like the poster has big plans that could become an open source OS/2 - with a bit of help.

Maybe Martin wants to have a look into this - along with anyone else interested.

Hi Greg

I tend to suspect that a setting, maybe several, needs changing in the BIOS.

1] OS/2 based systems cannot use GPT (UEFI standard) and must use MBR for the disk partitioning scheme

2] If the disk controller is set to AHCI mode then you need an AHCI driver installed to access the disk or set the SATA mode to IDE

If the above does not help you may want to send Sigurd a PM from here http://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=105

Applications / Re: Web Fonts for OS/2 ?
« on: February 29, 2016, 03:46:47 am »
Hi Andreas

I seem to recall Truetype fonts being supported by Warp4 without the need for Win-OS2 although the support may have been introduced in a fixpack rather than included in the Warp4 box.

I have not installed DOSWIN support on any of my systems for years - probably ecs1.0 was the last install that I bothered with "Legacy" support. No problems with Truetype fonts despite no DOSWIN support.

I believe the \os2\truetype.dll file may be involved in truetype support.

Hi Greg

Boot from the eCS Install CD and in the preboot menu deselect the Disk Integrity check.

If the Installer starts select Management Console rather than either Install option.

When the Management Console loads open a command window and run LVM. Is the SSD visible with the 2 partitions you created with DFSee?

Applications / Re: XWP Startup Folder - How to make it work?

Hi Andreas

I have not yet run cleanini and checkini against ini files although it may not be a bad idea as DMT does not seem to remove any clutter.

I have found an "Initial delay" setting in the XWP Startup Folder which when set to 5000ms seems to have resolved the problem - no problems on 6 boots so far - so it looks like it was a startup timing problem.

Applications / XWP Startup Folder - How to make it work?
« on: February 22, 2016, 10:17:17 pm »
Hi All

As the RSJ CD Writer Error Log does not get restarted after a Desktop restart I investigated using the XWP Startup Folder for this program object by moving the RSJ CD Writer Error Log program object from the standard Startup folder to the newly created XWP Startup Folder and rebooted to test.

That seems to have been a bad mistake as the boot resulted in the famous "Cannot start ..." message. In fact this XWP Startup Folder has probably only worked for 1 in 30 boots. Yes, I do a lot of reboots when I am experimenting with coding and it goes a little wrong during testing...  :-)

Seems to me that there is something very wrong with the XWP Startup Folder or I have something misconfigured.

Any ideas on getting the XWP Startup folder working? - XWP version is 1.0.9

Hi David

The most recent libusb package I know of is here ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/ecups/install/libusbdll10.wpi

Whether you need to update usb drivers would depend on what level usb drivers you are using.

Hi David

1-Not possible to print a test page.
2- No broken or disconnected wire.  usbDock shows the printer is connected. job details page shows a red block betweenj pc and printer for each file I try to print.

Possibly a silly question but do you have all the necessary cups support files in place? - especially the current libusb package?

I ask because the red block seems to suggest a lack of connectivity between pc and printer.

Hi Daniel

Yes, DOSBox is limited to VGA.

If I needed something more I guess I would end up installing DOS into VirtualPC or VirtualBox - no idea if that would work for you though.

Hardware / Re: Which buy a new laptop? for 2016
« on: January 13, 2016, 04:44:52 pm »
Hi Roberto

The only thing I can think of adding to Martins post is to get a laptop with an Intel WiFi card as current Wifi driver development seems to be targeted at Intel.

You may also want to contact Arca Noae - use the contact Form here https://www.arcanoae.com/contact/ - and ask how soon WiFi support is expected to be available and which Intel cards will be supported by the driver. It may take a few days before you get a reply but at least you will then have the information you need.
