Hi Martin,

There should be no problems using Ryzen processors with ArcaOS unless they have done something to the base OS since 5.0.7 which runs on all my ryzen based computers (I tried it on my Linux Mint computers as well just to check the different Ryzen processors - removable drive caddies make doing that easy).

If you are looking for a small size unit I would recommend the Beelink mini PC - it does have win11 on it but that can be removed with DFSee.

There are also cheeper versions of this range.

Hi Pete,

I see you have discovered the joy of using cups for printing.  I discovered that some years ago which is why I sold my all in one inkjet printer and got a brother DCP-9020cdw colour laser postscript printer all in one that allows me to print from any computer on the network.
BTW I have calculated that toner is much cheaper than ink and does not dry out if not used.

Sorry I can't help with CorelDRAW 2.0 for OS/2 but I do have a working copy of CorelDRAW 2.5 for OS/2 for OS/2 v 2.0

You should try EMT4PM as it is designed for opening disk images - it is an OS/2 program.

I wasn't expecting anything specific, just wondering if there might be some improvement in memory management.

Now everyone has had their say, the one thing I don't see are comments about improvements to the OS/2 part.  Can I assume that it is still the same as 5.0.7?

How does all this work if you have a 2GB boot partition with other partitions for such things as 'utilities', programs', 'home' etc?  I have never put everything on the boot partition because that prevents updating and leaving data alone.

I don't think you can bu what you describe. Arca mapper is just another name for SAMBA and has the same limitations.  When I need to transfer data from my windows datalogger I use ftp which also works with Linux Mint.

I may be an old fogey, but why are people trying to turn OS/2 into a version of windows because that is what they are trying to do copying the MS disk format and layout.  Even UEFI is a MS attempt to stop Linux and other OSs from booting - it didn't work stopping Linux and it Shouldn't stop OS/2.

I have several computers (OS/2 W4, ArcaOS, Linux Mint and Win7 as a data logger) near me, all connected to a single 28 inch 16x10 monitor plus keyboard and trackball via an HDMI-usb switch.  All of those computers have multiple disks fitted, all MBR and running without problems.  I have NO intention of changing that setup.

So far everything reads against upgrading to the new version unless someone can pul a must have item out of the bag and no rpm/yum doesn't cut it - I gave up on SUSE Linux because of that.

General Discussion / Re: when will version 5.1 of ArcaOS be released

Is there anything in it that is a 'must have' option?

I am an 83 year old that has been using OS/2 since I first got a copy of OS/2 v1.20 in 1989 and I don't like surprises so I'm asking those that have this new version - what, is any, is the advantage of getting this new version remembering that I have v5.0.7 working very well on my third generation Ryzen processor box and doing all I want.
The only thing I would like to see is an updated version of Firefox esr as that would allow me to run just OS/2 without having Linux Mint up and running on another box.

Setup & Installation / Re: jfs error?

First thing, are you able to get at the bios because you need to set it to compatibility mode?

If you can't do that then you are going to have a problem like trying to push water uphill.

One thing you could try is to set up ArcaOS on the msata in another computer and then see if it will see that install.  I don't hold much hope that it will work since these Intel units are designed for windows - some Linux enthusiasts have managed to get their OS to install and run on the unit.

Hi Doug,
Is your ACECAT tablet the same as the ACECAD D-Series digitizer?  If so could you post your ACECAD.SYS driver.

Thanks.

Hi Dariusz,
Where did you get the 0.9.0 version?  It shows most of what I want and should not be too much of a problem for non computer experts to use (they just use computers and that is about it).
The reason I need the information is at my age I don't want to travel several hundred kilometres to trouble shoot a simple problem which I could do over the phone if I knew what the motherboard was.  An example was one person couldn't use the front USB 3.0 sockets because the MB didn't have the 20 pin header so they weren't connected to anything (solved by using a converter cable that allowed them to be connected to two spare 9 pin headers.
