Martin asked me on IRC about an update to Alien Blaster, so I built it.

Not really tested  - but

This zip includes all sources as well as I was too lazy to figure out what files are needed to let it run.

Needs sdl12 libs.

Hey guys,

Too bad about the VirtualAddresslimit not helping but not surprising. Still could be the wrong SDL libraries, hard to say without the debug data.

It's  been on my list to try building a more  recent Wesnoth - I'll try get to it...

Hi Dave,
Thanks Paul! This one still works with the Realtek sound jack, but no HDMI - testlog attached. I assume unimix -card should show 2 adapters present if HDMI works?
Yeah I would think it would show two adapters - I'll take a look at the log and see if there are any clues.....

Hey Dave,

I attached testlog uniaud for my computer, which has HDMI video and monitor does have speakers (that work with Windows). I currently use the sound jack on the back of the computer for OS/2 sound, but would be nice to just use the monitor via HDMI. No sign of HDMI sound in the log that I can see though... using your latest 5.14.7 driver.

OK I checked the makefiles, patch_hdmi.c wasn't being built - I remember why now - it dragged in a bunch of other code that I didn't feel like trying to get working at the time.

Leave it with me and I'll see if I can get it compiling.

I would like to thank Paul Smedly and Steve Levine for their efforts and work on this driver.

Thanks! Steven's help with diagnosing traps/dump files has been invaluable - definitely new territory for me!

Hey Ivan,
Just out of curiosity may I ask a question?  Has anyone been able to get sound to work through an HDMI port and link to a monitor?

I ask this because all of my computing equipment now has an HDMI port on the motherboard as well as all the monitors, only used at the moment for video.

I'd have to check the code, but in theory I think this could work - but I've never tested it. I've be interested in a copy of 'testlog uniaud' for a system connected with HDMI

Well there is a new drop from the 23rd on Netlabs and the performance is much much improved. Still some little hangs when opening certain folders and a still s slight hang when the folder makes a sound. But it is much more usable now. I will comment further as I run into things. but this is looking much better.
Thanks for the heads up.
FYI, Here it is the link:

FWIW - this is built from the same code of my last 5.14.x release - there is something about the way David A does the builds that makes a difference...

Not sure if stuff like FF for example uses DIVE or not? But at least here that's probably the most demanding applicatin (given that it's all about on-going screen updates) and from my perspective it seems like a higher 'PM Graphics Marks' value impacts this the most.

It depends, DIVE is supposed to be disabled if using Panorama and enabled if using SNAP.  I have a vague memory of things getting backwards at some point, need to look. Also perhaps Panorama has improved its handling of the shadow buffer enough that DIVE would be a good choice.
The setting for DIVE should be "Full Hardware Acceleration enabled" or similar.

DIVE is not switched off with Panorama. Its something provided by MMOS/2.

The way I read Dave's comment, he's saying that within *firefox* dive is supposed to be disabled using panorama, and enabled using Snap....

Hi Martin,

I tested it with ArcaOS 5.0.6 VM guest on VBox 6.1.26 (Windows 10 host).
- VM ICH AC97: Works, Audio control working, no traps. It sounds, but sometimes the volume control goes to the max when I double click from one wav to another.
- VM Intel HD Audio: Works, Audio control working, no traps. But the sound it is lower than "AC97".  If I set the volume to 40%, I can not hear it at all.

Any chances of logs from a 'good' build and from the latest?

Hi Dave,

Now we're talking - or I can hear it! 5.13 is making sounds here and seems to work well - thanks again, you're aces...

There's no logic in 5.13 working when 5.11 and 5.12 didn't - but I'll take it :)

I only tested these builds in Virtualbox - I often don't get sound in Virtualbox so I wasn't concerned about not getting sound.

I'll try and do some testing locally with real hardware ASAP.
