Thank you all for your help I just had to repurchase arca  :o because to buy the maintenance program after expired was more expensive than just purchasing the whole OS again.. kind of shitty of arca but oh well...

Setup & Installation / Dos and WinOS2

Greetings,

I have just discovered that both dos and winos2 prompts do not work, in fact loading either window or full screen hangs my laptop. I do not recall this issue when I installed arca on this laptop before but it was awhile ago.  I looked on arca web site and seemed they had directions to fix similar issues so I did try those, autoexec.bat and the config.sys change but problem persists.  Any ideas?

Setup & Installation / Back to ARCA
« on: July 04, 2022, 10:01:57 pm »
Greetings All,

I am giving Arca another go on my thinkpad 430s and there are a couple things I know I figured out before but cant seem to remember how to today.  One my touch pad works as expected but cannot use it to scroll? Was this ever working or was I imagining that?  Also there is a way to drill down into folders without opening a new window, I just dont recall how to do that... I did get it to work with my 1080 laptop screen that I installed so thats awesome!

Glad to be back, Hope everyone is well

Applications / Re: ODIN
« on: February 27, 2021, 08:17:16 am »
Hi,

So being new to Odin I’m getting stuck… I’m trying to install a win app via its installer like putty. I know qputty exists but does not seem to support newer keys and just isn’t working. Anyhow what I have been doing is pe puttyinstaller and I keep running into fatal error missing kernel32.dll so I grabbed it off a xp install put it on arca but doesn’t correct it, do I have to put it somewhere specific? Will this even work? I can run the individual .exe’s but if somehow the installer would allow other programs to call it.

I don’t know if this is even possible but I’d figure I’d ask here instead of wasting more time.

Rick

Hi Rick

Are you using ArcaOS and Odin from the RPM?

The Windows directory structure is on "C:\var\lib\odin", but for the first time put "MSCVRT.DLL" in the same directory of the .exe you are trying to run. Remember that not all Win32 applications will run with Odin.

Which Windows program are you trying to run?
I tried to recreate the Win32 database of programs that runs on OS/2 on the wiki, but I'm still missing a lot.

Regards

I’m trying to run syncterm it’s a telnet bbs terminal I guess is the best way to describe it

Greetings.

I solved starting the agent....

However when running ssh-add to add a key I get

could not open a connection to your authentication agent?

Fix one thing break another I guess... ssh and sshd are working well tho.... just would be nice to get agent working...

Applications / SSH
« on: February 24, 2021, 06:56:12 pm »
Greetings,

I am trying it again to get ssh working.. Ive given up on sshd running on arca its just not working well.  But I would like to ssh from arca to any number of computers on my network.  I can do this it seems without too much problem just minor visual stuff with TERM.  My problem is I cannot get ssh-agent to work at all, its there I just get a weird error when trying to start it...

unix_listener: cannot bind to path C:\\var\\temp/ssh-FPcXYw7bbYMq/agent.60: Too
many open files in system

I have scoured the internet for this error and while I could find people with the same error all their suggestive fixes are for linux ie 'eval' ssh-agent .. which will not work on arca... I need to get this working as none of my servers allow password authentication and while I can include the key in my ssh command I would like to be able to skip that with ssh-agent.

All help appreciate, hope you are all well.

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: SIO2K Ray Gwinn
« on: February 24, 2021, 02:36:44 am »
Hi

I will like to get the registered versions of SIO and SIO2K to make it available at hobbes for free.  Like a told before Ray Gwinn authorized to share the registered versions of this software.

I have knowledge of these latest version:
- SIO version 1.60d, released March 17, 1997
- SIO2K version 2.03, released June 6, 2002.

I would like to get the registered versions of those latest releases, but for the moment any registered version is good for me.

For what I know there is no registration key, the registered version was a different compiled version. If someone can confirm I will appreciate it.

Regards

This is an author authorized registration for sio160d I do not believe it will work for sio2k however....

enjoy

Applications / arguments
« on: February 21, 2021, 06:17:03 am »
Greetings,

Chugging along with my arca setup I have run into another stumble...

On my linux boxes I run a bp (bink poll command) that simply looks like;

echo $1
/usr/local/sbin/binkd -p -P$1 ~/etc/config/binkd.cfg

The $1 being a fido address

so if I were type bp 1:105/10 it would poll that address using the above path to config file etc

So I corrected the path (/ to \) for os2 but it doesnt seem to like the argument $1?

Is there a different way I could do this in os2?

Applications / Re: Absolute path?
« on: February 12, 2021, 07:55:10 am »
Possibilities, use x:\usr\bin as the working directory. Make sure the program object points to x:\usr\bin\sshd.exe.
Though I think it might be referring to having its configuration refer to it by the full path. The original error was caused by re-exec, or in other words restarting itself, probably due to a change in configuration and it needs the full path name to find itself. x:\usr\bin\sshd.exe or x:/usr/bin/sshd.exe, perhaps even without the .exe

Thanks for your help with this, I’ve tried every combination I can think of, still can get past that absolute path error.. I can’t find anything on google either oddly enough..

An example of an absolute path to bar.exe, "c:\foo\bar\bar.exe"
An example of a relative path to bar.exe starting at c:\foo\foo, "..\bar\bar.exe"
So basically an absolute path starts at the root and works from anywhere, vs a relative path which is always relative.
Occasionally a port doesn't understand drive letters so as long as it is on the same volume, "\foo\bar\bar.exe" will also work
Sometimes ports want / as a path separator instead of \ as well or they see \ as an escape character, in which case \\ will work.
You'll need to test

So sshd.exe is the object and is located in /usr/bin/sshd.exe are you suggesting putting that in the path somehow or changing the working directory for the object to either / or //? Sorry I guess I just didn’t follow your suggestion entirely.
