Hi
Does anybody remember if Scitech MGL 6 worked on OS/2?
It is just because I want to list it (and link it) on the OS/2 API Project.
Here it is the archive of Scitech files, just in case: https://web.archive.org/web/20071102123131/http://www.scitechsoft.com/ftp/devel/ (https://web.archive.org/web/20071102123131/http://www.scitechsoft.com/ftp/devel/)

Hi Martin,
Looking through the SciTech archives of MGL v6.0 dev and beta, doe not look like there are any OS/2 drivers listed.
64 bit, pcc, and generic 32bit bpd's.
If no one else knows I'll unzip the files and look more indepth at the generic 32bit files on the off chance there is something OS/2 related there.

Hi
I just checked the news archive at the OS2World server.
There is:
- MGL 6.0 rel 23 and SciTech SNAP SDK 3.1 rel 23 (http://www.os2world.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=985&catid=80:software&Itemid=518)
I'm guessing it was available for OS/2 since it was posted as news, but I'm not sure about it.

I assume you already have this information but here it is anyway.
I'm calling it a night so will unzip the files and look further in the morning for you.
I see I also have ftp.scitechsoft.com\devel

Did MGL has some runtime DLLs ? or not?
I'm checking some of the software that requires MGL and it does not include any special DLLs, only some that includes SDDHELP.SYS, and that says it is required to be loaded for MGL to work.

Hi Martin,
Did MGL has some runtime DLLs ? or not?
I'm checking some of the software that requires MGL and it does not include any special DLLs, only some that includes SDDHELP.SYS, and that says it is required to be loaded for MGL to work.
MGL comes with
Directory of D:\mgl\1\drivers\x86
23/11/05 10:41 65536 0 freetype.bpd
23/11/05 10:41 123392 0 jpeg.bpd
23/11/05 10:41 148992 0 png.bpd
which are MGL binary portable modules. These look like portable DLL's that depend on the SciTech SNAP SDK already being installed for your operating system. More information below/attached.
I have attached the full readme.txt file from the drivers directory.
SciTech Multi-platform Graphics Library
Version 6.0 - Release 23
Getting Started Guide
I will have to install it to check it out but not on my main OS/2 PC, need it working at present :)

I'm trying it with Watcom C. I cant be 100% sure but it does appear to work with errors. The errors all look to be to do with me.
So.. ya, include it.

Hi
I found it more convenient, and maybe it is just a personal taste, to have a library runtime file like MGL.DLL generated for example, but I can not know if that is the right thing to do because of my lack on knowledge on how MGL works.
But I noticed that Marty Amodeo created one for his "DualMode Library (http://www.edm2.com/index.php/DualMode_Library)". He generated a MGL.DLL file dated on 2001-07-23.
I also do not know if this technology has an opportunity to be resurrected, according to the license it is open source and its source should be available on the package. For the moment I will only list its links on the OS/2 API Project page (http://www.edm2.com/index.php/Category:The_OS/2_API_Project#OS.2F2_Ported_APIs).
Regards.
