Multimedia / Re: How do I change this default behaviour?

Hi Dariusz, I had simply changed the default application for opening my media files using Assoedit (see images).

Hi Mauro,
SeaMonkey 2.7.2 is the 2nd bug fix for 2.7, 2.35 is much newer and 2.42 is newer again and 2.42.9 is newer again. They mostly correspond to Firefox releases and share most of the code so 2.35=FF38, 2.42=FF45 and 2.42.9=FF45.9. They're based of ESR releases so over a year there are security patches released.
In other words, SeaMonkey 2.42.9ESR is the latest. I rebuilt 2.35 because some YUM/RPM updates broke the original release.

Understood, thank you

It was actually refresh of SeaMonkey 2.35 for those still using it.

Hi Dave, saw the Hobbes page for Seamonkey and top of page is SM 2.7.2.r2, both suite and browser.
Then scrolling down find other version 2.42, or else the one here mentioned 2.35.
What is he reason for having a refresh of 2.35 instead of a newer version like 2.42 ?
And also, are those two versions newer than 2.7.2?
In other words, if I had to install Seamonkey first time now (OS2 Warp 4.52), what version would be best?
Sorry for this basic knowledge question.
Thank you

Setup & Installation / Re: ArcaOS USB installation - Rufus?

Hi Mentore, just consider -as an option- that Virtualbox has a non documented feature for converting a virtual machine into a physical bootable volume.
Check this link below (italian tutorial)

https://turbolab.it/virtualizzazione-535/guida-come-convertire-macchina-virtuale-vm-virtualbox-sistema-operativo-host-fisico-reale-1102

jump straight to the chapter "Conversione Disco Virtuale"

If you already have virtualized an ArcaOS machine in Virtualbox, then you are in a good position to make a test.

I made it with OS2 Warp 4.52, converted from a .vdi file to an USB system installation : it works, except for the fact that.... it won't boot in real hardware, just because of structural OS2 drive detection limitations.
But it actually runs perfectly connecting the USB pendrive to the pc and make it boot in a Virtualbox session as it was a guest virtual machine; I can work on it leaving my editing and savings on the physical USB installed system.
I guess ArcaOS system will have better chances than OS2 for booting in real hardware.

Ciao, would you please tell how to get user agent switcher on Firefox 45.9 ? Seem not possible to get a matching version for it.
Thank you

Unzip this and drag'n'drop the XPI on Firefox. Might have to disable signed extensions to install.

installed, it works perfectly. Thank you

F.i. Prefbar 7.1.0 works here with SM. So pretty sure it works with our FF too.

Thank you for answering Andi, I've solved with Dave's provided xpi extension

BTW, User Agent Switcher makes this a lot easier.

It is not high enough to go through some cloudflare
ex: clamav site

User Agent Switcher, yes good

Setup & Installation / Re: OS2 Warp 4.52 "vdi2hardware" result
« on: July 04, 2021, 10:30:22 am »
Hi Mauro, you can not boot OS/2 from a USB stick, the USB drivers load too late in the boot process and your message about not being able to operate the hard drive is accurate. Installers get around this by creating a ramdisk, copying to that and then booting from the ram drive.
As Olafur says, you need to copy your image to the hard drive, keeping the geometry correct and boot from that, which should work with the problems of drivers (usually the networks) not loading and needing to press enter to continue. This can fail during part of the boot as the USB keyboard is not available.

... Hi Dave, sorry for going back to this, what about cloning this USB volume on an internal disk partition ? Could OS2 boot from there (ideally)?

To finally update about an improvement, I could obtain the vdi file at the most recent state of the virtual machine.  It was basilar, from VirtualBox just went on the guest machine context menu and found the "Clone" item, then in the cloning wizard there was the proper option to clone the machine at its most recent snapshot.
When all said and done, even without reaching the goal of an OS2 selfbootable USB drive, I could afterall transform its vdi file into a physical USB system installation which is fully working in a VirtualBox session when connected to one USB port -first picture below-, like I already have for other USB installed systems (Ubuntu, Freebsd) with the difference that those ones are also bootable as system disk at computer start.
Furthemore, not bad the fact that this OS2 installation volume is correctly read when plugged in Ubuntu; files and folders are handled in the file manager -second picture below-.
Cool...... 8)

understand, Dave and Olafur, thanks.
Needless to say that wanting to create a RAM Disk booting system as Dave wrote, is not an affordable task, otherwise the appropriate indications would have followed.

Setup & Installation / OS2 Warp 4.52 "vdi2hardware" result
« on: June 06, 2021, 01:00:09 pm »
Hi all, I believe the following experience could be of any interest in this forum for those ones that can go deeper due to their excellent system knowledge rather than me, an average user with peaks of curiosity sometimes -helped a lot here to realize some configuration tasks-
I've seen this videotutorial for converting Virtualbox vdi machines into real hardware installed systems.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60Nv1zPVzjc

and have applied the procedure on my 20 Gb size OS2 Warp 4.52 vdi machine hosted on Windows, so have converted it in an .img file which have then burned in a USB3 pendrive 64 Gb.
After this, I have plugged the USB pendrive on an eeepc netbook Asus T101MT -year 2010 hardware with LEGACY BIOS- for booting.  In the image you can see how it went.
Also tried to boot same USB pendrive from my HP 15 serie laptop -year 2017 hardware with UEFI+LEGACY BIOS-, same result with one beep sound alert at the ending message: hardware conflict?

This is not too bad for me, at least the converting method seems to have done the job; the OS2 Warp installation has been placed inside that USB volume and started the boot sequence. A little bit better than the case of "no bootable OS found in this volume" message, if the conversion had not worked at all.
Pheraps some of you already know what prevented OS2 Warp to boot in this case.
My two cents guess is : unrecoverable real hardware issues with such OS2 Warp installation having all peripherals interfaced by Virtualbox filters.  Maybe config.sys has the wrong entries for the hardware items on the netbook.

Then I made the "reverse-proof" test : had booted that USB volume from inside a separate Virtualbox session, and it works.  It is the OS2 installed system at the state of its first Virtualbox boot, missing the next improvements I made (Guest Additions and other configurations + software + utilities).  Means that the .vdi machine selected for the conversion was the one keeping the original state, but it seemed to me the only valid .vdi file I could choose.
Thank you

Hi Mauro, 2 things to try.adding "SET KAI_AUTOMODE=DART" (without quotes) in your config.sys, reboot and test.
Download PMUniMix from Hobbes and play with the volume sliders. Sometimes the mixer is not set up correctly and something like the front volume needs turning up.

Hi Dave, SET KAI_AUTOMODE=DART was already active in config.sys, then tested Uniaud mixer again (tried also previously as you gave me this tip), activating all audio device controls including front, video, aux, pcm  and their cursors .  All as before.
Thank you

Hi Mauro,

To update a working system:
1) backup \mmos2\uniaud32.sys
2) copy a release\uniaud32.sy* to \mmos2
3) reboot

Ok thank you Paul, did as above. On both ICH AC97 (first) and Intel HD item (after) selected in Virtualbox audio system, everything like before; audio events are well working except sound from FF video play (Youtube). Almost sure it is not an audio driver matter.
So I would say this Uniaud versio is working on my virtual machine system

Hi all, sorry to ask this question, can I get installation tips somwhere or is it just un upgrade to a previous installed version ?  If so, which is the uniaud.diff  placing ?
I'm asking because previously -months ago-  I installed uniaud on my OS2 Warp 4.52 Virtualbox machine trying to solve the issue of no sound coming from youtube video in Firefox 45.9, whith the result of not solving this .
By reading these posts I'm understanding that after the update a new attempt  could be done.
Thank you

Applications / Re: highmem.exe can't load xul.dll
« on: February 17, 2021, 06:19:38 pm »
Well, you should update your kernel. If you don't have access to eCS or ArcaOS, the latest free one is 104a, available at http://www.os2site.com/sw/upgrades/kernel/. You'd need w420050811.zip to replace your W4 kernel.

There's also an updated DOSCALL1 at http://www.os2site.com/sw/upgrades/kernel/dc20050811.zip, make sure that you use the w4 version.

downloaded and applied these ones as well, kernel update first and DOSCALL1.DLL substitution after.

while the kernel update went ok, with the current version 14.104a_W4 reported on the boot splash screen, the DOSCALL1.DLL replacement caused a trap at boot.  Message screen here attached.
Could not even use FC2 loading in safe mode, it traps again.
Anyway I could reload the previous working machine state (it is a Virtualbox emulation) made just before this change.

The important to say is that after having applied again the kernel update, worked on the xul.dll attributes and loaded it in the high memory, now the issue is solved!    :D
Firefox, Staroffice, ANPM and Java ImageEditor running at same time
Thank you all
