Do you have 2 network cards installed in the VM? Can you post your x:\mptn\bin\setup.cmd?
I even have 4... First one I keep for NAT, the others for bridged mode - second one for docking station wired, third for laptop's wifi, fourth for laptop's internal wired. I swap second and fourth when I have wired ethernet on the go, without my docking station.

Contents of setup.cmd:

route -fh
arp -f
ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
REM ifconfig lan0 nil metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan1 nil
REM ifconfig lan2 nil metric 1 mtu 1500
ifconfig lan3 192.168.1.200 netmask 255.255.255.0 metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan4 nil metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan5 metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan6 metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan7 metric 1 mtu 1500
dhcpstrt -i lan1
REM ifconfig sl0
ipgate off

Virtualization / ArcaOS in VirtualBox and mouse.
« on: April 04, 2024, 09:29:57 am »
I have a strange behavior from the mouse with ArcaOS 5.1 installed in VirtualBox (with standard properties of the VM / of the installation).

The pointer moves everywhere, but on the desktop, icons located in the bottom-half part of the screen cannot be clicked on. I have to click on other icons above then go with the keyboard to the folder I want to open/the app I want to start and open it with the enter key.
The xCenter at the bottom is working fine, so it seems to be specific to the desktop; it also affects full-screen win-os/2 sessions, in which nothing in the bottom-half of the screen is clickable. On Win-OS/2, the pointer also moves more randomly, sometimes it becomes difficult to click on a button even in the top half of the screen, because the pointer will go too high (or too low) and moving it towards the place to click on moves it too far.

I remember problems with VBox extensions in version 7 so I kept the version of extensions that come with VBox.

Are these known problems? Are there any known ways to solve these problems?

You should have a line like,
Code: [Select]
CALL=X:\OS2\CMD.EXE /Q /C X:\MPTN\BIN\MPTSTART.CMD >NULin config.sys with MPTSTART.CMD calling X:\MPTN\BIN\SETUP.cmd
The line is there, and yet the DHCP monitor has "DHCP client is not running".. When I run DHCPSTRT, the first line in the monitor is "initialized interface lan1"...

Yes. You can install it in parallel but you may have to redirect the settings in config.sys and tcpexit/b4... or whoever ndctl.exe is started from.
Thanks Andi. Is there somewhere a page that explains how to get NetDrive working on ArcaOS, whether side-by-side with the Arca stuff or just by itself ?

Starting DHCPSTRT by hand after getting to the WPS works, but why the heck is it not started during boot-up time? Could anyone tell me exactly how their DHCPSTRT line looks like in their config.sys ?[/li][/list]

dhcpstrt is not in config.sys but inside ?:\mptn\bin\setup.cmd:

    dhcpstrt -i lan0 0d 0

That is weird, because dhcpstrt is indeed present in this setup file... yet if I do not start it manually once the WPS has loaded, the DHCP monitor is empty with a message that DHCP has not been started..

    Networking / Netdrive and ArcaOS
    « on: April 03, 2024, 01:13:48 pm »
Is the version of NetDrive included in ArcaOS the full version, in which many different plugins may be installed?  If yes, what is the name of the program that controls all of that (I have been out of the OS/2 ecosystem for a while, just getting back from time to time..)? If no, can one install the conventional netdrive without creating conflicts?

I do not know if this is related, but after installing tons of programs onto a virtual ArcaOS 5.1 that I just reinstalled, I found the two following problems:
    • The PATH and LIBPATH, still limited in size in config.sys, quickly go over their maximum length. It has been the same for ages, but I would be grateful if a good programmer (which I am not) could make a program into which one enters folder names that should be part of libpath (especially), then another folder for collecting all libraries, and then the program picks up all these libraries, copies them to that collection folder, favors newer versions when two files have the same name, or even prevents some files from being copied if they are known to create conflicts. But that is an entirely different topic.
    • As mentioned on the old HPFS386 topic that I have to resurrect, some usual folders / files required for HPFS386 are missing. Again, not the same topic.
    • Now let's get to the topic at hand. I did not have any network. Somehow the different interfaces are present / installed with one of them activated for DHCP, but there is no DHCPSTRT starting automatically. And yet I did install networking.. Starting DHCPSTRT by hand after getting to the WPS works, but why the heck is it not started during boot-up time? Could anyone tell me exactly how their DHCPSTRT line looks like in their config.sys ?

    Applications / eCs 1.x & SmartSuite
    « on: March 27, 2024, 04:50:02 pm »
    Hi all,

I am reinstalling my ArcaOS VM and some of my eCS-originating programs..

    1. Does anyone remember on which eCS CD SmartSuite was located, and for which versions of eCS (before it was replaced by openoffice)?

    2. Someone has uploaded the 3 CDs of eCS 1.0 to Archive.org. This is the US version, when the one I bought at that time was the version with the CDs made by Mensys (in their usual green cardboard pouch). What are the known differences between both versions?

    3. At the time (must have been around 2000-2001), I had ordered eCS early enough to get a sort of 1CD beta before the final one was released. I remember it also had some programs that did not make it to the final one. Anyone has any idea ?

    4. I started making/keeping the ISOs of all eCS versions to which I had access since 1.1, but I am missing the ISOs of the beta and of 1.0, and I lost the CDs. 7 years ago, when I emailed Mensys about the inability to redownload my CDs, Menso answered

“I am sorry to say that our download system is currently in maintenance. We are working on it!

I have forwarded your e-mail to info@ecomstation.com. They will send you a quote for the latest version of eComStation.”
Needless to say, the eCS download system never got out of “maintenance” and the forwarded request was never answered. Would someone have ISOs of the Mensys-version of eCS 1.0, and if possible of the preceding beta?

    Thanks !

Well the problem has changed a bit today. My D drive is still inaccessible, but I could start the LVM, and somehow it appears that the D drive was renamed to E, but E being already taken, that cannot work...

Now back at home... and again LVM does not work, no second drive - even if DHCP manages to find the network. So really puzzled as to why it would work sometimes and not other times..

And without touching anything, the system works again without problem - LVM starts (on command line and mini-LVM), the drive is recognized, etc.

This is far fetched, but this problem could it have a relationship with NetDrive? I noticed that it happened when my DHCP did not get an address, but when it does get one, then there is no problem. Either that is a pure coincidence, or there is something in the network that messes up the LVM, and I can only see NetDrive as a culprit..

Mini-LVM (from the System folder/icon), lvmgui (java based) or lvm??? cli version?
The ones I tried were mini-LVM from system folder icon and lvm on command line (the screenshot). Have not tried the java based. Is there any hope it would work when the others do not?

All not going to help. LVM.DLL can be loaded but for some reason the LVM dll can not access the disc somehow.
Hence wording it failed to open the LVM engine. Its not an issue of not being able to load the DLL.
Minilvm, lvm.exe and the java version all use lvm.dll so they will all have the same resuit.

    Hmmm interesting.

Did you update to Virtualbox 7 ?

    Roderick

Hi Roderick.. Yes I updated to Virtualbox 7, but quite a bit ago, and it had been working fine until yesterday...

Storage / Virtualbox - LVM stopped working
    « on: February 09, 2023, 09:48:21 am »
Hi all, I have my ArcaOS on VirtualBox, and everything was working fine, until yesterday when I saw that my second virtual HDD was not here anymore. I tried running LVM GUI, and nothing happened. Went to command line, and running the lvm command shows that it does not work anymore.. no idea why (maybe some INI cleanup at boot time that messed up an LVM-related setting?).
Has anyone experienced that problem ? If yes, how did you solve it?
    Thanks for any help!
