The system seems more stable with it moved to the Startup folder.  Firefox was always crashing until I did this.

One other thing I am trying.

I downloaded a program called The PM Queue Size Patch.

These patches may provide tremendous stability in OS/2 systems
that suffer from desktop hangs, no-input in shells, invalid switching
between the desktop and Window/DOS applications, and other
ailments.  These patches are not meant to be a complete OS/2 fix,
but may be lots of help. I followed its instruction and added the necessary line to the

startup.cmd:

@ECHO OFF
RUN=E:\OS2\ACPIDAEMON.EXE
PMQSIZE E:\OS2\DLL\PMWIN.DLL 190 /Q
exit

I added the /Q because the cmd prompt window would come up showing what it was doing.  However, I could not get it to close until I added /Q

THEORY:

Every PM thread that sends PM messages or receives posted
messages must have a queue to hold those messages until they are
processed. Messages are very frequently put into those messages queues
to be processed as the thread is able.  If more messages are put into
the queue than the queue can hold, then it is reasonable to expect
problems in the system, ranging from trivial glitches to system
hangs.  The default size for these queues in OS/2 is only 10 messages.
This seems very small considering the number of message-generating
activities going on in a busy OS/2 system.

Many OS/2 users experience problems in running OS/2 that I speculate
are caused, or at least exacerbated, by this too-small queue.

Two partitions appear to be running great with these two changes.  The big thing is moving the

RUN=E:\OS2\ACPIDAEMON.EXE

to the startup.cmd

Hello, I have tested what you say and it also works better for me in the startup folder, and removing it from the config.sys.
 But not on all computers.
Saludos

I agree.  The system seems more stable with it moved to the Startup folder.

Clicking both right and left mouse buttons at the same time to PASTE here only works with E, not with WordPro and not with ME-Editor. MED or EPM at least..

It works here with Firefox, Seamonkey, Smalled text editor, and e.exe .  It does not appear to work with program developement editors such as EPM and STE.

There is one more option, which I use.  Select what you want to copy, left button and drag it to where you want to copy to.  This works with some parts of Firefox, but not all.

To my knowledge you cannot.

I am just guessing, but these are two different branches of OS/2.

eComStation had more graphical improvements and adjustments than ArcaOS.  However, something happened and they never fulfilled the expectations of the people that used it and suddenly went dark (quiet).

ArcaNoae licensed from IBM starting with OS/2 and adding some of the graphical upgrades, but not all. It appears they did not or were not able to include a lot of the improvements that eComStation had done for customizaation.

You have to have specially developed themes (BigIcons) for ArcaOS. You cannot customize the OS as easily as ecomstation.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can correct me and descibe in detail what happened.

There was an old program called ColourManager/2 which would have filled in a lot of the gaps, however, it does not work on ArcaOS.  I tried it.

General Discussion / Re: Hobbes Retirement

I have decided to cancel work on that mirror as Nathan went ahead.

Who is "Nathan"?  And why would you (or any of us) care what "Nathan" is doing?

Nathan Woodruff, hobbesarchive.com. Long discussion on warp.groups.io

Nathan has been around for a long time like the rest of us.  Unfortunately, he does not appear to utilize the forums of this site.  I remember he wrote a database program to go along with what I believe was IBMs.

I followed the email from the newletters being sent from that newsgroup.  He managed to rewrite the Hobbes database program from scratch in 3 days.  It looks and feels like the Hobbes, but he has enhanced the search engine.

Now the issue: I like the PNG icon themes, I want to keep it, but it blocks me from seeing the .ICO on the desktop. I'm attaching the after and before pics.
Is there a way to disable just the display of the .ICO PNG Image so I can keep seeing the actual .ICO on the desktop?

Hello. I think I found the answer myself.

I just removed ""*.ico"                "image_file_80.png"" from the bigicons.txt file, rebooted and good to go.

Regards

This can be done for individual folders.

Open the folder that contains the OS/2 icons.
Right click inside the folder (white empty space) to bring up the menu.
Select Icons
Select Normal.

This overrides the system default for that folder.

Make another Orange System Setup folder theme which can be used to replace an existing theme inside the main BigIcons theme folders.

Just doodling again.

Made another System_Setup_Folder Grey Theme called Grey2.

Just unzip and copy over the chosen themes icons with these and restart desktop.  If you do not like, copy the Standard Grey theme over them or one of the other themes over them.

I was playing around with a new os2 bitmap icon. Working with os2 bitmaps is not easy.

The red NL in the icon stands for Netlabs.  This is just a doogle to be used or not used,

Right click on your OS2 command prompt window section.

Under the Properties tab, you will find the following under the program parameters

/k cls

Changed to the following

/k MODE 80,102

Close and now open the prompt window.  You should see the scroll bar.  If the Window is too wide, change the 80 to 70 or 60.

That is it.

Do what you want Martin.  Anything I upload can  be used or modified for what they need.  If they can enhance anything, have at it.

I got the idea of the Draw theme from some Linux themes.  This theme is best viewed with dark backgrounds.  I noticed their themes use a lot of dark colors.  Some snapshots along with the uploaded zip file.
