which is the second edition to Howard Fosdick's Rexx Programmer's Reference. Apparently it is licensed under a Creative Commons license, which gives you the possibility to obtain the book free of charge.

Hopefully (my wish) there will be a printed version of the book in the near future.

- Which version of VMWare Workstation Pro are you using? According to some online info since version 17.5.2 Build 23775571 it was optimized for 3840 x 2160

- Which version of OS/2 - ArcaOS are you installing?

This affects all versions

- Is there any error message on OS/2 boot? or it is an error message when you try to start the VM?, Or there is no error, it just remains with the old resolution

There is no error message anywhere. It is just impossible to select any resolution above 1920x1440. When you peak into the vmx file, the video memory gets each time put back to 16M, regardless of efforts to increase the video memory.

Please refrain from discussing VirtualBox in this topic. I am fully aware that there are other options to virtualize OS/2. However you can only run one HyperVisor upon a time, so it would be very beneficial if I could get this working with VMWare, which offers other benefits for different platforms.

I recently acquired a thinkpad with a 4k screen. I have a OS/2 vm in the latest and greatest VMWare Workstation (which is nowadays free of charge for personal use). However I cannot find a way to make my full screen resolution available to the guest VM. I tried editing the vmx file, but the darn thing keeps reverting to 16MB of graphical memory, which obvious is not enough for 3840x2160. Most pages on the web advice to install VMWare tools in similar circumstances, however they are not available for OS/2.

Anyone got any clues on how to solve this problem?

I do not use MATE currently, but I think that mate-session-save might be the thing you are looking for.

By the way Debian is a very good and stable choice for a distribution.

That should not be a problem: there are ps/2 splitter cables for this. In fact mouse and keyboard are connected to different pins on the ps/2 connector.

Too bad it is no longer available on archive.org. On https://www.charlespetzold.com/books.html you can find source of the book. In the '89 book chapter 7 seems to be concerned with AVIO. If only I could get a copy of chapter 7...

I just read heard about advanced VIO, what I gathered so far, is that you supposedly can create an AVIO presentation space with VIOCreatePS (see https://ia801901.us.archive.org/13/items/OS21.xTechnicalDocumentation/64F0276_OS2_V1_2_PTI_Presentation_Manager_Programming_Reference_Vol_1.pdf page 467). If I understand this correctly it should be possible (in 16 bit apps at least) to incorporate an area in a PM application, that can be populated (updated) with VIO calls.

Anyone knows something about this? Maybe someone recalls an article or an example from back in the day?

Before I am looking deeper into it, I have a question:

How does this toolchain handle debugsymbols?

If I was to compile something with gcc -g ... do the debugsymbols end up in the exe file? If so, then what type of debugsymbols and is there a debugger on OS/2 that is compatible with those?
