Hi Dave

Maybe you want to check out water cooling as it seems to work cooler/quieter than cpu fan type coolers.

Hi All

@Remy: AMD cpus seems to work fine with their version of HyperThreading called Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) Enabled. Been running with SMT enabled on my AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 6 core cpu using 12 "processors" for years - since 2019 - without problems.

@Eugene: On my Desktop system (MSI B450 mainboard) the setting is in BIOS -> Settings -> Advanced -> AMD Overclocking -> Manual CPU Overclocking -> CPU Core Count Control -> SMT Control [Auto] or [Disable]

Hi Hansi

Have you asked Paul if he has a copy of the Perl 5.8.8 WPI package archived? - https://os2ports.smedley.id.au/?page_id=8

Hi Hansi

Looks like an older version of perl than is available via Arca Noae Package Manager (ANPM).

Looking at the Detail (long description) of ExifTool_Perl_9-46.wpi - https://hobbesarchive.com/?detail=/pub/os2/dev/proglang/perl/ExifTool_Perl_9-46.wpi - I see at the bottom
Requires:
Perl 5.8.8 (and above)...

I think I would try the current perl available via ANPM.

Hi Jochen

I'm not a "c" programmer but looking through pm2.inf (from os/2 toolkit) it looks like you can set the initial directory in the FILEDLG structure:-
   char pszFullFile[CCHMAXPATH] = "*.C";  /* File filter string */
I would change the above to the following to see if it works
   char pszFullFile[CCHMAXPATH] = "Drive:\Path\*.*"; /*Set to required Drive:\Path */

eg:
  char pszFullFile[CCHMAXPATH] = "C:\Programs\*.*";

Hardware / Re: HP Deskjet 3635 need a workable driver
« on: April 18, 2025, 04:27:35 pm »
Hi klipp

I'm using a HP Envy Photo 6234 which works very well for printing with cups/hplip and scanning with sane/hpaio.

I think the message you get about no color manager could be a "red herring". I seem to recall a similar problem years ago with a Canon printer but cannot remember the exact fix, very possibly there was something missing in the cups setup at that time.

I suggest that you get a cups debug log and post it here and, hopefully, with a few people looking through it the problem may get spotted.

Did you try creating a printer following instructions in my previous post? - might be worth a try.

Hi klipp

Might be easier to "walk" you through creating a printer as it seems something went wrong on your previous attempt(s).

With CUPS Daemon running and Printer powered on:-

1] Start Computer -> Printers -> Install Printer

2] Select Install a local or network printer (CUPS-based) and click Next

3] The "Create CUPS Printer" window should appear, select HP then select Deskjet 3630 Series hpijs and click Next

4] The printer should then be detected and displayed, make sure it is selected and click Next

5] Complete Printer Name and Location then click Next

6] The "Confirm Create Printer" window appears, Make sure Create Pinter is checked then click Create

7] Close the Create Printer dialog

You should end up with a printer with the correct driver for the Deskjet 3630 Series in the Printers folder

A simple test: open a browser and load http://localhost:631/printers then click on your printers name. The next page has a dropdown box called Maintenance, select Print Test Page from that dropdown list.

Let us know if the above worked for you.

Hi R.M.

Have you installed the hplip packages?
If "No" use ANPM to install hplip and that should pull in all the other required hplip and cups packages.

Then check there is a CUPS Daemon in the Startup folder.
If not create 1 with Path and file name: cmd.exe Parameters: /c detach cupsd.exe

Use prndrv.exe to remove any traces of previous failed printer installations and queues - http://www.os2site.com/sw/comm/faxworks/prndrv.exe

Doubleclick on CUPS Daemon then, with printer powered on, fire up a browser and go to http://localhost:631/admin and see if you can create a working printer.

Hope the above helps

Pete

Setup & Installation / Re: Updated qt5 files?
« on: March 14, 2025, 08:57:39 pm »
Hi Dave

I tried a new profile with no success - dooble simply crashes after a few minutes of trying to import the dooble_filter file.

There does not seem to be anything wrong with the file, opens in e.exe with no problems, so can only guess that something in the qt5/*nixy support files may not be at the correct level. I doubt it is memory related as dooble behaves the same when the system is rebooted and dooble is the only app started.

Pete
