Hi

The 3 "fake disks" are probably related to the USBMSD.ADD  /REMOVABLES:  value  in the config.sys file.  What value are you using?

Hi Tom

Hi ppgrainbow

I seem to recall something about having to set Windows NT4/2000 networking to use a particular setting in order for OS/2 <-> Windows peer networking to work. I'm struggling to remember the exact setting ... something like Use LanMan with a value of 1... Sorry, must be around 20+ years ago.

Maybe that will jog someone elses memory and they will post the exact setting.

Do you mean "lanman auth=" and "NTLMv2 auth=" ?
(as mentioned in this post: https://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.msg16524.html#msg16524)

Looks like what I was trying to remember.

Hi Dave

[L:\]fc-match fixed
HELV.PFB: "Helvetica" "Regular"

fc-cache -r seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks

Hi

Sorry, no answers to the above questions but they do cause me to ask: Why can I not see the text in the boxes marked as Code: [Select] using Daves current Dooble build? - see attached dooble_text.jpg

Hi

Well the above posts kill my theory that Eugene has a later Revision of the mainboard with some hardware difference(s) that somehow stopped 32 bit os's being installed...

Hi Eugene

Looking at the user manual for the B550-A PRO I see MSI do not support using 32 bit Windows with this mainboard, see bottom of this page https://www.manuals.co.uk/msi/b550-a-pro/manual?p=43

Do all our B550-A PRO users have that printed in the manual supplied with their mainboard?

I'm also wondering if there is a technical reason for this or are MSI just trying to lighten their support load?

Hi Dave

I have not added to whatever fonts got installed by 5.0.5 - no Bitstream fonts installed. Dooble had defaulted to mainly Helvetica. Guess I should have a look at extra fonts.

Dooble rarely gets closed - it usually crashes taking down the system - I should probably use a cmd file to start Dooble with the first line deleting the .dooble directory to avoid possible profile problems.

Hi Eeugene

Are you installing from USB?
If "Yes" it could be worth trying a dvd install if possible.

I also wonder if the ISO file has got corrupted somehow. Is there an MD5 checksum with the ISO that you can use to check?

Hi Dave

Had not investigated Profiles but on looking it seems that deleting the .dooble directory is the way to create a new profile when dooble is next started.

Well, that worked, Dooble starts much more quickly and is ready for use immediately - as long as I open a 2nd tab to enter a url into. If I try to use the 1st tab nothing loads.

So loading problem solved - wonder what was in the profile causing the problem.

I then discovered most of the text is missing from webpages and had to rack my brain to remember that it was necessary to select a different Sans Serif font to that pre-selected. I opted for Droid Sans, reloaded os2world.com and all the missing text appeared. Just documenting that here for when I cannot remember the font trick again  :-)

Thanks

Pete

Hi Eugene

Pete I do go to the install with my own selections and it just quits after that.

Any idea where it is quitting?

Been a while since I last did an ArcaOS install but I seem to recall that you can select to show drivers loading which may give an idea where it is quitting - sometimes last driver listed onscreen or the next driver that should get loaded from the config.sys.

Hi Dave

Yes, that gets rid of about:blank as the homepage.

Trouble is it "moves " slow loading to the next tab opened which then fails to display the webpage - in this case https://www.os2world.com/cms/ - although Dooble behaves as though the page has loaded.

Opening a third tab and entering a url works.

Think I'll revert to about:blank as homepage and cut out the middle stage above.

Pete
