Hardware / Re: Airboot / M.2 SATA and/or PCI NVMe
« on: August 08, 2019, 09:04:01 pm »
Thanks for the link. The models I've looked at have two USB 2.0 ports and up to 8 USB 3.0 ports.
Good to know about the Startek USB 2.0 PCIe, so with that I can even look at systems that only have USB 3.0.

Yes, I noticed that thread but was hoping that someone had done some tests recently  ::)
Driver for NVMe is on the Arca Noae "to do" list, however I can't wait for that one to be released.
Probably I'll just buy one model that also supports my old SATA SSD's. If Win10 comes preloaded on a NVMe
and Airboot can't boot it I will just transfer the Win10 installation to another SATA SSD.

On what kind of disk was Win7 installed?

Planning to buy a new ThinkCentre or ThinkStation which comes with Win pre-installed on a M.2 SATA or NVMe.
Will add an extra SATA SSD and connect it to one of the motherboard's SATA connectors and install Airboot and ArcaOS
on this one.
Don't know what kind of BIOS these systems use, but hopefully it can be set to "legacy".

If so, will Airboot be able to boot Win from the M.2 or NVMe?

Setup & Installation / Re: JFS chkdsk problem
« on: July 22, 2019, 05:38:16 pm »
The partition was on a non-removable drive, internal SSD, and it's icon was identical to the other partitions on the drive.

BTW, when I first tried to manually rename the files/folders, that were copied from a backup to the newly created JFS-partition, to their original long names it did not work. After reformatting to HPFS all seems to work fine.
Thanks for the link to filesys3.wpi, I have nothing to test it on now, so I don't know if it would have worked on the partition that didn't "accept" manual editing.

Would like to go back to JFS since it's a bit faster than HPFS, but without knowing what caused the problems in the first place I'm not sure what to do. Suspect a hardware failure so perhaps just buy a new SSD drive asap, anyone knows if there is one brand that is known to be more reliable than others?

Yes, unicode.sys precedes the JFS.ifs line.

Didn't know about that WPS bug. In the meantime I reformatted p: with HPFS and and copying files to it keep correct file names.

During all this back and forth I've ended up with some backup directories with real file names in the 8.3 format. Is there a script/utility than can be run on these directories/files which will set real name equal to title?

I have a good backup so I already recreated the partion and formatted it JFS. However, when copying files back to this new partition the title of the files remain correct but the actual file names are shortened to 8.3. When opening drive P: in details view I can edit the titles but the real name does not get updated correctly if the tilte is longer consists of more then 8 characters. (This procedure works fine on other JFS partitions,.)

Setup & Installation / JFS chkdsk problem
« on: July 19, 2019, 09:49:54 pm »
Have a problem with a jfs formatted partition. After a reboot (ArcoOS), chkdsk seems to be stuck in phase 3 when checking the "troubled" partition which has driveletter P. Disabled autocheck in config.sys and the system boots to the WPS, drive P still exists but the systems cannot list any files/directories. Is there any "safe" tool to fix this?

Utilities / Re: Insert text on pdf's
« on: June 07, 2019, 10:26:06 pm »
Good that you supplied the setup.txt, Ivan, now it's working.

Looks like it can add watermarks in batch mode but only one watermark can be defined so I would end up with identical watermarks on all pdf's.
(I need the filename of the pdf added/inserted as text.)
Also, I don't see any options for adjusting the placement of the watermark. Tried with the text watermark and it is placed diagonally on the page.

I think REXX and Ghostscript will be the solution.

At this stage I didn't think about pdf versions at all, but in any case the pdf's I produce are only meant for our auditor and "IRS", plus internal use.
I assume that they use "latest everything" under Windows and so far they have not complained about pdf 1.4. (Latest pdf version is now at 1.7 I think.)

The number "1" which was added to lower right corner was my mistake. Created the pdf in OO and I think it automatically added page numbering.
Have done several tests with "new" pdfs and no numbers are added.

Thanks, I already have ghostscript, did some more searching and found;

https://askubuntu.com/questions/872482/adding-a-logo-in-a-pdf-by-ghostscript

My infile test.pdf contains only one line with the word "test.pdf"
(No need to, but I changed "Sample" to "AddedText" and saved it as sample.ps)

Running

gsos2 -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=out.pdf sample.ps -f test.pdf

and it produced the attached out.pdf

So, it looks like this can be done without conversion.

Just noticed that it also added the number "1" in the lower right corner. Guess this can be controlled
by the ps-file, font, size, where to place text etc.

Utilities / Insert text on pdf's

I need to insert text, actually the filename of the pdf, to lots of pdf's.
Does anyone know about a "OS/2-utilty" that can do this, preferably in batch mode?
(Attached a sample, 12345.pdf)

Thanks David, I tried various port settings and the following works:

Channel definition Outgoing: Server port 465 and Local port 7587

Account settings SEND: Port 587
If I leave "Allow non-secure" unchecked I get a warning; There is no secure Authentication method available for the SEND server.
When checked there is no warning. In both cases it sends the e-mail.

The option "Use secure channel (SSL) is grayed out, so stlll something is wrong.
