when will version 5.1 of ArcaOS be released?
When it's ready? Should be some more information at Warpstock on Saturday.

Apparently, beyond the distribution woes, it _is_ ready? ... such a tease!
-
IMHO since there is a downtrend predicted by many economic forecasters. I would consider if I were Arca Noae. of holding off on Arca OS 5.07 support to prioritize deployment Arca OS 5.1. Just my 2 cents.

Hi
The only official word we have about the release of ArcaOS 5.1 is here:
https://www.arcanoae.com/i-want-arcaos-5-1/
TO CLARIFY: ArcaOS 5.1 HAS NOT YET BEEN RELEASED. Please read this post all the way to the end to get all information.
ArcaOS 5.1 is complete and waiting for release. The holdup is really related to our distribution system, which is based on the WooCommerce platform.
Until we can produce multiple versions of ArcaOS ISOs, in multiple languages, WE MUST HOLD UP THE ArcaOS 5.1 RELEASE.
While WooCommerce is a capable ecommerce solution, Arca Noae’s requirements to be able to allow ordering of a personalized ISO have now become considerably more complicated than they were for the 5.0 release in 2017. Instead of only spinning the same ISO with personalization data for each customer, we now must continue to have 5.0 ISOs available, and offer 5.1 ISOs in several languages. In addition, instead of maintaining one subscription channel for ArcaOS, we now must maintain two separate channels, one for 5.0 and one for 5.1. Upgraders will also need to change subscription channels when they upgrade ArcaOS. This work has proven more complicated than we had anticipated.
In the meantime, we have taken steps to upgrade our infrastructure to expand our capacity to build and warehouse more ISOs, and we are now at a point where the missing pieces of the puzzle are just the software enhancements for the website to bring everything together.
We have always avoided stating narrow windows for anticipated delivery dates, and take great efforts to avoid the appearance of vaporware. ArcaOS 5.1 is real, and it is coming…soon.
In the interim (and after the release of ArcaOS 5.1), ArcaOS 5.0 will continue to receive critical updates and support, and from time to time, we may even release new bugfix ISOs for ArcaOS 5.0 (generally when an update impacts the installation experience).
It is also important to note that not all languages for ArcaOS 5.1 will be made available when English is released, nor will all non-English languages be released at the same time. Translations of German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, and others are in varying states of completion. As we deem a certain language ready for release, we will make it available.
We appreciate everyone’s continued patience. We want to bring you ArcaOS 5.1 as much as you want it!
Spoiler: They say that ArcaOS 5.1 is complete and they have problem with the distribution system.
For what I can say being on the Arca Noae Tester groups, ArcaOS 5.1 exist, it had been tested by the group and it has UEFI support. I have no idea why the distribution system is taking so long.
I personally want ArcaOS 5.1 to get released as soon as possible.

when will version 5.1 of ArcaOS be released?
When it's ready? Should be some more information at Warpstock on Saturday.
Pardon me, but I haven't seen any promotions or adverts for a Warpstock event in 2023 in neither the EU nor US sites, let alone that it is coming up on Saturday. Could someone share a link?
-
Take note of the month/year of the post (hint it's 2021)
-
Since ArcaOS 5.0.7 works well for me on everything up to my Ryzen third generation box I can't see any reason to go to version 5.1 unless they change the underlying OS/2 to a 64 bit OS.

unless they change the underlying OS/2 to a 64 bit OS.
why do you need 64 bit OS/2 ? we do not have 64 bit applications :)

Hi Ibrahim
The Warpstock quote was from 2021-06-03. This is an old thread, I also got confused.
FYI: The Warpstock board is currently discussing the venue for Warpstock 2023.

Hi Martin, thank you for clearing that up. I'm glad to see that the Warpstock board is talking about venues, I was concerned that there just might not be an event this year. If 5.1's not public by then, it'll be a chance for us to get some much-needed answers!

Is there an update on 5.1 release available? I haven't seen anything since April announcement (https://www.arcanoae.com/i-want-arcaos-5-1/ (https://www.arcanoae.com/i-want-arcaos-5-1/)) which stated 5.1 being ready but hold back due to distribution issues - have they been solved?
-
I recommend checking on the Arca Noae website to see if ArcaOS 5.1 has been released.
-
My guess as they say its ready it will be released when the greatest number of maintenance subscriptions are due to expire...
Rick
-
No, they are going to release when Easter and Christmas fall on the same day.

Great. I'll have to hurry and buy a Christmas tree. I will check if I can find some leftover chocolate bunnies.

Looks as if the Arca Noae main server has not been updated (or: upgraded?) to handle the expected traffic :( . Apparently that is not included in the "steps to upgrade our infrastructure", although everybody must log in on that server in order to be able to click on the upgrade button.
-
Upgrading from 5.08 on my T500 went smoothly.
-
Is there anything in it that is a 'must have' option?
I am an 83 year old that has been using OS/2 since I first got a copy of OS/2 v1.20 in 1989 and I don't like surprises so I'm asking those that have this new version - what, is any, is the advantage of getting this new version remembering that I have v5.0.7 working very well on my third generation Ryzen processor box and doing all I want.
The only thing I would like to see is an updated version of Firefox esr as that would allow me to run just OS/2 without having Linux Mint up and running on another box.
-
Well the server seems to be down I cannot get to the site at all. Will just have to wait.
-
The site works again.
-
PHP problems, the site should be regularly restarted now.

It was, but not enough to handle the unexpected number of users.

That depends on what you mean by 'must have'. If you are happy with what you have, probably not (and I understand that there will be a 5.0.9 release). The biggies are:
- Better support foe DOS/WinOS2.
- Support to run on modern (EFI) hardware. (required for the DOS/WinOS2 support).
There are more things, but most are included in the 5.0.x updates. If you don't need those things, installing 5.1 will not do much different than installing 5.0.8 will do.
-
I like the GPT support. I find MBR support comes with a long list of issue's if you want to support multi boot.
GPT from my perspective is easier.

Since the annoncement, the site is unresponding (tried many many many... times !)
Or could the new "autoritary" Digital Service Act (DSA) impact responstime ?
-
Yes, most likely everybody wants that. It would be better to just wait a day, so that the load on the site can subside.
-
Well they did not give me my discounts so I will wait to approach that issue when the site is responding normally. But Having a lot of people get Arca OS 5.1 is a good thing.

Hello
Looks to me like a hard monday for the Arca Noae site. I can not access it.
For what I see OSNews has posted the news:

Complaining here won't change anything. Your friend could try emailing them and explain the situation. Maybe that will result in a better outcome? Worth trying, although of course I cannot guarantee that (I am only a customer of AN).
-
Arca Noae is usually pretty reasonable. They have always bent over backwards to assist me.
-
Hello
I agree that the guys at Arca Noae are pretty reasonable, Lewis is very accessible and he is always open to talk.
Rick, It seems they had some issue with the "license upgrade mechanism" ,they posted it here:
They recommend opening a ticket if you are having issues with the license upgrade.

Day 2- I got connected once and was able to put the update to 5.1 in a cart, but when I clicked on "pay" the connection died. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
Still can't get 5.1. I'll keep trying.
