Had a similar problem and had to delete the AOO directory in the HOME directory.

My last question regarding the funding of the Browser is, as I have not kept it in mind or simply can not remember, sorry for this; does ArcaNoae itself is involved in Sponsoring as well? Thank you and all the best to all of you!

I was not able to watch Warpstock Europe when you presented this slides, and have to apologize for being to harsh with my words.

But I still think it is better to name it a community and not "only or main" OS2VOICE project or goal.

And please keep in mind, several suffered heavy economic losses because of the Corona Pandemie.

For me, i.e., it was and is more important to Support the home for homeless Kids in Chenai/India, that some people here Support for 15 Years now, than having a new Browser for OS/2. While the home has to be closed for now because of goverment restrictioncs we donate for Rice, Walter and food, to keep people alive.

I do not mention this for fishing for compliments, jutst to bring the actual situation of donating reasons in a bigger context.

Basically OS/2 VOICE collected about 25000 Euro of the money invested in the QT /webkit port. That is about 55% of total amount of money
spent on this project. The amount of people who donated to VOICE are about 100 users. What I am trying to make clear is that we have pretty good inside how many people are donating. And of the 100 donors the bulk of the money came from about 10 people.
One person donated 10.000 Dollars.
Roderick Klein
President OS/2 VOICE

What is getting me tired, and sometimes getting on my nerves, is that you still count everything "as collected by OS2VOICE". As I mentioned already in my Post in February a lot has been an effort of the german os2.de users, where we started several donation campaigns.

I do not know what the reason for this kind of "counting" is, that is beyond my mind, but as I said in February, one can not do things in a more discourageing way.

As I estimated then, "we" collected at least 10.000 to 13.000 Euros, I even donated one Lenovo X250 Laptop in 2019 during our User Meeting in Cologne for a raffle....

I do not want a special "thank you" from bww because the money they got is really well invested money. It is OK the way it is, that is fine. But allways this "OS2 VOICE" make it possible and so on...

You are doing a really well job, Roderick, but I guess you are not the only one. There is, what is left of it, the whole community supporting this project. Everyone as he/she/it can.

« on: April 27, 2021, 10:07:55 pm »
Here some additional pictures, showing that there is only the standard theme as choice available and the other picture showing the error message within the second command window after the program started.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Upps, sorry PM View did not cache the SCUMMVM window, at least it shows the error message of the second window

Thanks, Paul!

I can confirm, 2.1 is working with ArcaNoae 5.06 once I downloaded SDL2 from Hobbes and copied the extracted dlls to the OS2/DLL directory.

A AN Package Manager search for SDL2 did show no result.

There is an SDL Package available with  AN Package Manager but that leads not to a starting ScummVM.

- Is it possible to bundle the SDL2 DLLs with ScummVM?

One regression:

- I can not change the ScummVM Theme. The themes are included with the "other" Versions (like Windows) but unfortunately not as a separate file nor addon. The seem to be included in the .exe file (?). Is it possible to add the Themes (like modern) in the OS/2 Version as well (as with 1.9 i.e.)? The Standard Scheme does really look not very flattering.

Thanks again!!

Sigurd

Hi Paul,

as I was able to install ArcaOS on Bare metal named Lenovo T480 I am really happy to report, that your driver 20210414 works perfect with this hardware!

Thanks a lot, very well done!!

I attach the files I was able to get.

If you need more information on this hardware, please let me know!

EDIT: one regression here, as mentioned earlier in this thread: Playing PM123 and having system Sounds enabled does not work correct. When the first time system sound appears while PM123 is playing, there is no Volumecontrol with PM123 anymore.

All the best!

Sigurd

Thanks for the hints! In the end - I tested the USB Stick with the Lenovo Yoga 12 I have and had the same fail - it turned out to be a hardware Problem and I had success!  :D

The long story with pictures will come tomorrow, I just write via Firefox from the T480!

Here the last 5 Pictures:

This evening my first attempt, so far promising but not succesfull.

First I created an ARCOS 5.0.6 USB Stick as described in the Readme.
In addition I copied the files
NMVE.ADD
NVME.SYM
to the Boot directory of the stick (as mentioned in the other Thread here in this Forum about "Installation NVme"

I plugged in the Stick and started.

During Start of the Laptop I pressed F12 and choosed the USB Stick as boot media.

The adventure begins  ;D

On the first picture ( I am still not able to figure out how to place pcitures here in this text )you can see, that it boots from the Stick.

And you can see the first "problem" as well: what I call the "memory hole", it recognizes only 1 of the 32 GB RAM.

The process itself goes well, and so you can see in the second and third picture, that it starts in bare metal, the T480.

On the fourth and fifth picture you can see the Preeboot Options that I left as they are, well done ArcaNoae!

The sixth picture shows the two things I marked (Well switching to German is a "minority change" I would guess ::) ):
- Edit config.sys before boot (i do really appreciate this point! Arca Noae makes it really easy to add drivers this way!)
- Skip hardware validation (this makes it easier for me when Windows i.e. is already installed)

The seventh Picture shows the ongoing boot after I pressed F10.

Picture 8 shows the Editor window that opened almost imediatly, and the Line I added there:
BASEDEV=NVME.ADD /V
I added the /V Switch to be able to see if the driver loads or not

The ninth Pictures proofs, the Driver is loaded! Great!

But then, the installation stops complainig: can not find the ARCAINST.ISO file (see Picture 10).

Picture 11 does proof, that this file is on the stick.

So, what do you suggest, what did go or what did I made wrong?

Stay tuned for more! :D

Hi,

it is time for me to try to shift "Bare Metal Arcaos" to a new level: I am trying to install ArcaOS 5.0.6 from USB Stick on my Thinkpad 25/2. In fact it is a self assembeld Thinkpad T480 in a Thinkpad 25 case. The "originally" Thinkpad 25 was based on a T470 Model, with Intel core i7 7th Generation. As the 8th Generation was such a boost, I decided to modify one on my own, inspired by an internet blog.

I will report here my tries and fails, trials and errors, as well as success, if it may happen. The availability of the NVMe Driver developed by ArcaNoae opended this door.

Thanks a lot for this new tremendous effort, Arca Noae!
And another driver enhancement gives me hope: Paul Smedleys Uniaud driver.

Last year I was able to get ArcaOS to run on this T25/2, but that time I had an AHCI SSD and the sound did not work that time. I already did have ArcaOS to run on the Originally Thinkpad 25, but had to swap the NVMe that time with the AHCI SSD.

Edit: this Installations have all been made by cloning with dfsee, due to the lack of USB 3 drivers at that time.

As I do not want to open and close (assemble and disassemble) the Thinkpad very often - it has some really stupid plastic things, that are easy to break and not to fix, I assembeld it with an 1 TB NVMe Drive, and hoped to see the NVME OS/2 driver to come alive. And here it is. :)

So, this evening I started from scratch.

I really appreciate your hints and tipps and your help!!! Please do not hesitate to write your thoughts and opinions! Well, but it does not make sense to discuss about the reason "WHY I do this" and "That it does make no sense". No chance to persuade ;D me

So, first a brief introduction to the hardware (this Laptop has each and any Top hardware, that was available for the Lenovo T480 generation, I tried to maximize it in every way):

Hardware Specs:

- Thinkpad 25 Palmrest, LCD Cover, Keyboard, Trackpad, Touchpad
- Thinkpad T480 Hardware:
- Intel Core i7-8650 CPU, 4 cores, 4 threads
- 32GB RAM
- Nvidia 150MX Graphic with 2 GB
- Smart Card Reader
- Fingerprint Reader
- Windows Hello camera
- Web Camera
- NFC
- USB 3 and Thunderbolt 3
- SD Card Reader (Full Size)
- Intel LAN (perfect for Intel 1000EB driver from ArcaNoae)
- Intel WLAN
- Fibocom WWAN
- FullHD Screen with Touch Support (!)
- Samsung EVO 970 1TB NVMe
- Two batteries, one swapable

Special BIOS Settings:

- Disable Secure Boot
- Enable Boot Option "Boot both, UEFI and Legacy, Legacy First"

Already installed software:

- Used DFSEE to create the following SSD Layout:
- MBR Mode
- AIRBoot Manager 1.1.4 installed
- Partition 1, Primary, 16GB, for ArcaOS
- Partition 2, Primary, 150GB, Windows 10 64 Pro already installed
- Remaining Space an SSD left free so far

Next Post is about my first attempt to install.

I am wondering wether or not this kernel of PPC Edition does have the 4GB RAM Limit as well, and in addition the "Free RAM" problems.
