Here are the Sysbench Results.

Warp 3, Red Spine, no Fixpac, "as is"
Emulated PC: AMD DX4 120 MHz, 32 MB RAM, S3Trio Grafic

I have not looked into transferring Data between Emulation/Host, so only Screenshots so far.

Should even though give a picture of it.

Hi Dave, Yes, my spelling is wrong, these are three EMULATED complete PCs running.

I will do a Sysbench later this day, may also record a new Youtube Video, showing the three boot at the same time.

Did you notice, there is a MAC ARM Version of 86Box at Github as well, that works pretty well, as one on os2.org posted.

Martin, I will Post my configurations later, but there are such a lot of possible emulated Hardware choice, that I guess there are Dozens of them working.

Such a great Software!

EDIT: attached the picture from os2.org showing the additional 86Toolbox, that is available for MAC.

I tested 86Box for Windows on ARM 64 on my Surface Pro 11 (Snapdragon CPU) and it runs wonderfull!

I have three complete virtual PCs running at the same time, and do not even have to change the Surface status, it is still in Power Safe Mode.

Almost perfect!! What a fun!!

I wanted to publish this second video, now there will be a rest for some time.

It shows:

- Windows 11 Home 64
- Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon
- ArcaOS 5.1

with the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 2024, all nativ, with UEFI and GPT, can be choosen with the rEFInd Bootmanager.

I hope you enjoy it.

It may take a day time for Youtube to process the Subtitels in English!

All the best, hope, you have some fun!

Virtualization / A new video about OS/2 after more than 4 Years...
« on: December 04, 2024, 11:51:20 pm »
Today I released a new video on Youtube, after almost 4 years rest.

It is about my attempt to virtualize OS/2 on ARM64 CPU - Windows on ARM64 - Surface Pro 11.

Unfortunately for most of you it is in German, I do not know if simultanius Online translation is possible.

I hope you enjoy!

Important notice: Until now the Video is not fully processed by Youtube, so it may take some hours to become visibale / available!

Warp 4 causes some trouble so far, but OS/2 2.1, Update on 2.11 follows today, works perfect, including Soundblaster 16.

I have to manualy add the CD Drive and will install the S3Trio64 Graphic Drivers as well, once 2.11 is updated.

Really nice.

I didn't get it first, but the trick was to run the machine and got to "Tools-Settings" to customize it (Picture attached), I will be trying to learn more about it.

Regards

I would suggest to use the 86Box Manager, there are all different VMs listed and you can configure them there a bit easier.

Thanks for testing with X86Box. I am curious about some things.

1. Is there a mouse/keyboard integration issue? Can I move the mouse between host OS and guest OS?
2. OS/2 Warp 3 is promising. The website also shows OS/2 Warp 4. Can it run ArcaOS?
3. Is this also a possibility for the Mac? If so, which Mac CPU is supported?

Hi Neil,

here are my answers:

1. Mouse and keyboard are working stable, once I selecte Microsoft Serial Mouse at COM1 at the configuration. I have not found a Mouse Integration so far, to use it inside 86Box I have to simple click in the window, to Release it I have to use the keys ALT+ESC

2. I did not test ArcaOS by now, but why should it not work (at least all versions before 5.1) ? I tried Windows 98 yesterday and the installation started with no problem. I may test ArcaOS later, that may take some time, as I focus inside VMS on "pure" OS/2 releases (2.0 -> 4.52) for now.

3. as I do not have a Mac, I can not help here. But as my best guess I would say Yes, with the special MAC OS port it should work the same way, but that is a guess

By the way: it is quite need to use OS/2 Warp 3 on this OLED Device in Fullscreen, using the wireless Flexkeyboard and its Touchpad!  8) ;) :D

There is a hint on reddit for a 86Box for Windows on Arm64 Beta:

https://github.com/ArminiusTux/WinARM64-binaries/releases/tag/86Box

I am going to test this as well.

If you want to follow my notes, how easy it was to install OS/2 in a virtual Machine with 86Box at an ARM64 Device, please read here:

https://www.os2.org/viewtopic.php?t=4197

(German, Online Translator needed)

So, the Thesis: ARM can not emulate/virtualize x86 is proofed to be wrong. ;)

All the best!

Sigurd, what bldlevel does your copy of LANINST.PGM report?

Hi Steven,

I unfortunately can not find a file with this name on my pc, where I do have the copied CID files form the WSeB CD as well. (A full serach ended with no result).

Where should this file be located?

Thanks again!

Aaah this is soooo fun. Anyway on the WSeB CD (this can depend on the language). On an English WSeB its located in:
\CID\SERVER\IBMLS\IBM500S1
In that directory is:
SRVRINST.ZIP

In that ZIP file on my system is LANINST.PGM.

Roderick

While I can't see the fun in this, maybe because of my german sense of Humor, I will Look there.

Sigurd,

This

  SS:ESP=05c7:00003732  SSACC=00f3  SSLIM=00003fff

indicates we failed with stack overflow.  Of course, this does not tell us why.  We need to see to logs to get some idea of what the installer was doing at the time of the exception.

Hi Steven,

attached are the only two log files related to lan server stuff, I was able to find.

There are no Server related logs in \var.

Thank you very much,

Sigurd

Thanks Doug,

but unfortunately no change.

I think, I will start from scratch once I have time for it.

Thanks to all!
