Hi Mark,
thank you very much for your exzellent Tipps and Hints, as well as the PDF. Due to being busy I gave it all a first shot, found out there is with switch A:2 an "Auto mute" ID6, but had no luck so far.

I will come back to this later for sure, but this will take some weeks, as I have, besides my daily work, have to finish the 4th book of my nith-part fantasy Story. There is a new part each year, it should be ready at 24.9.24 (I have a faible for numbers, i.e. the first part is available since 21.9.21, the fifth will be at 25.9.25 and so on, German calender format) , so I have to Focus on this topic for the next couple of days.
It is free if charge, but unfortunately only available in German.

Thanks again!

Events / Re: Warpstock 2024: Coming? Not Coming? Why?
« on: September 11, 2024, 08:04:55 pm »
Well, America is long way, I did not even attend Warpstock Europe this year, even when it took place in Germany.
During the last 2 or 3 Years I did only watch part of the Videos, it was nice to have a crross meeting Warptock US /Europe last year.
Most of the German users faded out.

Even though ArcaOS is for at least 5 years out, every important thing for me did not came, even if there was allways and anytime told
"It is on our List", "We are very close".

- WLAN support (I guees this is not even on the List anymore)
- German NLS
- Browser
- ...
I really appriciate was has been done to ArcaOS, thats why I still experiment with it, GPT, UEFI Support, Panorama, USB 3, these are all really big effort, considering the few developers and the long time outclassed Kernel.

But on the other hand together with others we spent a reasonalbe amount of money for the browser, the ongoing subscriptions, but did never get, what we wanted. ArcaOS did never really commit to the Browser Initiative, as far as I know.

And more important to me: the RAM problem on modern hardware will prevent ArcaOS to use a new browser, even if it will ever see the light of day.

So, for me instead of having GPT, UEFI and this stuff, I would have been more happy having a browser on older hardware, like an Thinkpad X250, but where I can access the full 4 GB and do not need UEFI nor GPT.

ArcaOS is focussed on industrial customers, that is understandable for money reasons, but the death to the private comunity.

In the end - who cares?

Attracting young users is a kind of, well "Nice dream" when one look at generation Z. I do really not know anyone new to OS/2 since the last 15 Years, and if, as mentioned, in cas of using it as a retro plattform. But even this is some kind of false, if you want to have a really good retro platform, you take Linux free of charge, use DOSBOX, SCUMVM and Virtualbox to operate what you want.

I wish all a good Warpstock but expect nothing new from it, besides what I have heard for years regarding my targets. "It is on the List, We hear you." I do not listen that much anymore.

All the Best!

Hi Martin and all, I added two more tips and tricks. They sound very simple, but they are very helpful!

- Changing Icons
- Changing BootLogo

Hello Sigurd

Great experiment, I enjoyed reading it (translated in English).

Which is the screen resolution that you have for that laptop?

Regards

Hi Martin,

thank you. I use 1400×1050, it is in the second picture.  Maximum on this Device is 2880X1800.

Hi Sigurd,

Had a look at your logs, and from what I can tell, only the switch /A:2 is going to have a chance of working because the other two are HDMI ports which will not work with AOS (unless a video driver is created that supports it). Check your BIOS and see if there is a setting to use the RealTek audio on your computer (this is what /A:2 enables). Also check if you have a headphone jack, and see if you get sound there. It could be that some laptops use HDMI for their speakers so would force using external speakers or headphones with that unit with OS/2.

Regards,

Hi David,

thanks for looking into this. I will give your hints a try and report!

May take a day.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately adapter0 is HDMI which we can't support, and Adapter 1 is reporting "Error: invalid number of PCM instances for adapter 1"

A 'testlog uniaud' with the driver from the debug folder might give more clues.

Here is the Debug Uniaud Testlog.

Hi Paul,

I tried it on my ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 2024:

unfortunately no sound. I guess this is because I can not configurate it the right way.

A attach some logfiles here:

- unimix -card    and
- unimx -list

files I created with UNIAUD Config.sys Switch none, 0, 1, 2

Sometimes the Laptop reports to have 2, sometimes 3 audio hardware.

I tried with switch 2 in config.sys, and use the toneein.cmd (here as a toneein.txt) to switch on the options.

Unfortunately no sound, I got a POPUPLOG once.

All files are packed as Zephyrus.zip and attached

Do you have any hints, advice, what else I could check or try?

Thank you very much!

Setup & Installation / Re: How to get rid of the second boot menue?
« on: September 07, 2024, 02:52:51 pm »
If there's more than one bootable partition, and the user hasn't specified the one to use (via the commandline), how else is 'os2ldr.efi' supposed to know which one to boot? The partition menu is required for proper operation.

Maybe is there a chance to implement such a question when creating a drive "Bootable or not"

Add the drive letter as an option? My rEFInd menu entry for AOS 5.1 on drive M:
Code: [Select]
# This is an entry for ArcaOS 5.1 in UEFI mode
menuentry ArcaOS-5.1 {
    icon \EFI\refind\icons\os_aos.png
    loader \EFI\OS2\OS2LDR.EFI
    options "M:"
}

Works, thank you very much.

Are you using an old or prerelease version of the UEFI ArcaOS boot loader? That menu is part of the loader, but it's been disabled by default in all GA releases.

5.1 GA (english)

Setup & Installation / How to get rid of the second boot menue?
« on: September 04, 2024, 09:55:25 pm »
I created a second UEFI ArcaOS Type 1 JFS partition to store Data on it. Everything worked as expected, it is visible and usable.

Please see picture one.

But, on every boot, after choosing ArcaOS via rEFInd Boot Manager, the OS/2 Logo appears on the upper left corner, and next some kind of second Boot Menue.

Please see picture two.

As this is some kind of anoying, I would like to get rid of this menu, booting straight into ArcaOS, as it did before I created the partition.

Any ideas?

Help is really appriciated, thank you very much in advance!
