Setup & Installation / UEFI Boot Manager for 5.1
« on: May 17, 2022, 01:07:15 am »
Is AN going to provide a UEFI capable boot manager with the upcoming 5.1 release?  While one of my ArcaOS/Linux computers will continue using GRUB 2, I have another computer where I would like to boot into two different GUID ArcaOS system partitions.

Networking / Windows 2000 client access
« on: May 18, 2021, 06:03:00 am »
I would like to access a LAN Server 5.2 named pipes service from a Windows 2000 client, which requires authentication to LAN Server.  I have not been able to manually hack an install of IBM's 1997 NT Primary Logon Client on Windows 2000 and was curious if authenticating a Windows 2000 client is possible?

In exploring my options, it appears LAN Server does not allow anonymous access to named pipes even while working from the server.  I need to authenticate to the LAN locally from the LAN Server console before I am able to access a named pipes service via an OS/2 or WIN-OS2 server session.

Applications / Sybase DB-Library
« on: December 04, 2020, 11:22:54 pm »
Does anyone know where I can obtain Sybase's (32-bit) DB-Library >= v.4.6?

An older (v4) Q+E SQL Server ODBC driver requires this along with Net-Library >= v.2, which I'm planning to use from the Sybase System 10 client.

Setup & Installation / CUPS and LIBC defect?
« on: September 06, 2020, 03:35:39 am »
I have been struggling to upgrade CUPS v.2.1.3 to v.2.2.12 but kept getting rpm chmod errors.  I wanted to stick with an RPM install and avoid manually installing it.

I eventually came across a 10 year old post describing an issue with libc and how EAs are handled when using 386 HPFS.  Since I'm using 386 HPFS, I rebooted with the HPFS.IFS driver and then CUPS installed without any errors.

Is this a known issue with LIBC and 386 HPFS EAs that's going to remain unresolved?

Marketplace / Warp Server - NOS Free
« on: July 26, 2019, 06:25:45 pm »
I have several NOS boxes of Warp Server that have been donated from one of the once great OS/2 ISVs that are available to anyone who is willing to pay shipping from Southern California.  PM me if interested.

Update: There are also a couple NOS boxes of Warp client.  I haven't seen these, but I'm guessing they are the V3 client.

Applications / DB/2 Version 2 CAE for Win16
« on: May 15, 2019, 07:20:49 pm »
Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the version 2 DB/2 CAE for Windows 3.1?  The file “win31cae.exe” was once on Hobbes, but has been removed.  I found a copy of the v.5.2 Win16 client, but receive a win32s 1.30 error when installing (I have 1.25/1.30 win32s installed.)

Thank you.

Applications / BackAgain/2000 Unreliable
« on: February 15, 2019, 06:20:50 pm »
I recently returned to using OS/2 after moving to Linux 25-years ago.  I had been searching for a file-level backup solution and had purchased Sytos Plus 1.3, Sytos Premium 2.1, and Backmaster 2 from eBay to evaluate.  None of these provided a generic SCSI driver and none would backup to a JFS disk partition or SMB share without aborting.  I also evaluated NovaDisk+ 6.01, but this couldn’t restore HPFS extended attributes.  NovaBack+ 6.01 appeared to work on my Warp Server 4.52 installation, but the software would not recognize any SCSI tape devices on my ArcaOS systems.  I thought I had found a viable solution using BackAgain/2000.

Wanting to expand the size of the boot partition on my Warp Server 4.52, I stood up a second OS/2 boot partition with some free space between the partitions.  I booted to this second partition and made both a BA/2K tape backup and disk backup of my original boot partition.  Both backups were verified and only a few inconsequential files were excluded from the backups due to file locks.   I deleted and recreated an expanded boot partition, and restored the BA/2K backup from tape.  When rebooting Warp Server, I was presented with missing config.sys device driver errors and also observed missing files preventing Lan Manager from starting once booted.  I again attempted the restoration from the BA/2K disk backup with similar results.

There’s nothing worse than an unreliable backup solution.  I will be removing BA/2K from all of my systems this weekend and will continue looking for a viable tape backup solution.

Marketplace / Relish v.2.2 (Closed)
« on: January 10, 2019, 10:41:58 pm »
Update:  I was able to obtain a copy of v.2.2

<<I would like to purchase a copy of Sundial's Relish v.2.2 ($300) if anyone has a license they are no longer using.  I am looking for a valid licensed copy, but I don't need the original media or documentation.>>

Thank you!
