Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: Hobbes (Files) Reoganization
« on: December 06, 2021, 02:00:15 pm »
I know that this can be argued forever but I would NOT put "VCompat" under /pub/dos.
I agree with that, since I also have in my mind that "/pub/dos" is for applications that runs in DOS and also on DOSVDM, not for specifically OS/2 VDM system utilities.

What might be reasonable is to have a new subdir "/pub/os2/system/drivers/vdd" to place these kind of drivers.
I also think that is a good idea. I need to keep thinking about it as I check "/pub/os2/util/system" that seems to crowded.

Since there is "/pub/os2/system/x11", I was thinking we may have "/pub/os2/system/vdm" (Virtual DOS machine) and possible also "/pub/os2/system/win32" for the Odin based libraries (Instead of "/pub/os2/win32os2").

But I'm still in brainstorm since I haven't started updating the "/pub/os2/system/" directory.

Where do you think it should go "vCompat" (enhanced compatability for OS/2 VDM sessions) ? It is right now on "/pub/os2/util/system".
Should it remain there? or there is a better suggestion.

It is like I'm missing on hobbes something for the DOS-VDM system things like creating a "/pub/os2/system/DOSVDM", but I'm not complete sure about it, and if there are other files for that category.

General Discussion / VMware mouse driver for Windows 3.x
« on: December 02, 2021, 06:44:08 pm »

I was checking that news. I tried it just for fun on Win-OS2 and killed the mouse (expected). But it was good to see that there is some source code for the Win16 mouse driver is out there.

Hi Dariusz.

I don't think it is good to deregister any class for what you want to do?

When you right click over the AVI or MPG file, and select "Open as", which options do you see?

Do you want to take a look at my notes here, maybe it can give you some hints.

I'm almost done with the reorganization of "/pub/os2/apps/mmedia", I'm just missing some files, but I think it is good now.

I think this directory ("/pub/os2/apps/mmedia), is ready for the next phase, which it is to find other OS/2 software sources and check is something is missing in hobbes to upload it too. But that phase is a secondary task, because the priority is too keep reorganizing other hobbes directories.

Suggestions of something missing on "/pub/os2/apps/mmedia" are welcome.

Remember the standard premises for this reorganization that were discussed before:
  • In the case of applications (not drivers), I'm only leaving on hobbes only the latest version. Older versions are in the backups and hopefully in the future it may be organized somewhere else like OS2site. It will be like having one repository for the latest files version (hobbes) and other one with everything (old and new) (OS2Site and
  • I'm trying to identify the version number and date of each application to include it clearly on the short description so users will know how old is the software at first hand.
  • If something is missing from hobbes, there is  hobbes backup on before the reorganization (2021-05), and we have too
  • I'm also changing the file names, to try to include a better naming for the files. Ex: There were files like "" or "" that sometimes don't tell you what it is.
  • I'm sorry, but the process is slow, I have to go file by file and create the .txt file for it. And I need to use the incoming directory to update hobbes, I have no other way as far as I know. I'm sorry to put so many files on that directory, specially for the people like to always check on it for newer software releases.
  • Don't get angry and start calling me names if you don't like that some file is is not named or located in where you want. Let's discuss the rationale of that and see if we can get some agreement.

Hi Sergey.

I want to reorganize /dev, but I haven't started yet. I need some ideas on how should the directory structure should be reorganized.

I was thinking something like:

Currently I'm busy with the /apps and /util reorganization, but suggestions on the /dev directory are welcome, so I can also start that little by little.

Way back in 2010 Paul did a port of Sigil e-pub editor for QT4.
Hi Ivan

Is there a link for the "Sigil e-pub editor" port? I want to give it a try.

Hi Sigurd

I had updated the wiki page:

Let me know if it is fine with you. If you ever produce the "Hardware Report (PCI.exe)" please post it here.
Are you using Panorama for Video? Does it has two adapter, Intel and NVidia?

Web applications / Re: QT5 simplebrowser

Hi Roderick

Bitwise works is completely free to write down a new set of development goals for the Qt5 and new browser port and call it like "phase 2", set a funding goal, time frame and request donations for it. But it will be important for them to release a working beta version of the browser to keep the community motivated and show that good things were produced with the first "49000 €" raised.

FYI: Bitwise works collected the "49000 €" donation initially required according to it's webpage.

This is a never seen record for the community and it took efforts and time of all of us.

I'm really looking forward to see Qt5 stabilize and the new browser, so future projects can be suggested by Bitwise works.

Hi Mark

Thanks for the feedback. I had updated the wiki of the K55 and K70 with your suggestions.

About the K96 keyboard you got, if it is a different model I prefer to create a different Wiki page about it, even if it is the same hardwareID.
Can you please post the hardware report of it and the HardwareID? and the website link.
