Setup & Installation / Re: OS/2 Warp 3 Installation Issue
« on: March 26, 2018, 11:35:02 pm »
I still have software to install and hardware to configure (Intel 8/16 ISA NIC, SoundBlaster 16) and maybe tweak the video driver.  But I have a bootable OS/2 machine!  I couldn't have done it without your help.
Later Cirrus Logic display drivers are available from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/drivers/video/cirrus.zip

Doug's advise can be extended to the SCSI host adapter BIOS. The used hard drive is quite big for this particular SCSI adapter. Different mappings can restrict the usable disk size. Not a problem for OS/2 at all. But it becomes a problem if you wan't to IPL from the local drive unit. So the install volume has to be below cylinder 1024.

You can try from command line: FDISK /NEWMBR

Otherwise replacing the hard drive unit with a model with lesser than 8GB and reducing the installed RAM to 16 MB should be the best option to install from the original diskettes.

OS2 !! SYS01475
OS2 !! SYS02027

Don't know why. Suggestions? Thanks.
It seems the installation routine utilised IBMINT13.I13 as a fall-back. But without information about the capacity of the hard drive and the partition scheme everything is vague.

The generic procedure should be:

1. Make a copy of the second disk (called "Diskette 1")
2. Put the correct ADD driver to this disk
3. Modify the CONFIG.SYS so that the first two lines contain:

SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1
BASEDEV=QL40OS2.ADD /V

4. Use the modified "Diskette 1" for local installation

The DTC 3274 VL seems to use a different chipset than the 3270VL. So there will be no luck with either the included Adaptec 1540 (AHA154X.ADD) nor the latest DTC (DTC3280.ADD) drivers. Perhaps it's a better idea to try the QLogic chipset drivers.

LAN Virtual Device Driver can only work in conjunction with the interface provided by LANPDD.OS2 to provide networking for DOS sessions.

The validator from w3.org shows 250 to 280 errors for this page (~1200 lines). Tidy can perhaps correct more than 90% of them. Most of them are caused by space characters or other control characters in wrong location.

Jomla web pages normally has only 3 minor errors and 3 warning.

Networking / Re: Samba Server
« on: March 16, 2018, 02:36:05 pm »
The whole philosophy of Samba and it companions (and basically this is exactly the same with *nix) is to keep the *nix user/pssword database and the one from Samba synchronized.
That's not a good idea or an expensive one. Better solutions are existing for user management in networks. Usually a file and print server with Samba under UNIX only requires a 2-user license and can serve to 1000 Samba users.
