Title: Login (userid) box for email missing in Firefox 45.9.0
Post by: jkrim on December 11, 2022, 01:19:13 am
It looks like suddenly Comcast (email) must have changed their website login page, because I used to be able to login just fine on eCS with Firefox 45.9.0.
Now,  the page to login is missing a "box" where one enters their userid/email.  I suspect perhaps they made it "Flashy" (?)  Anyway, is there any way to fix this?

I attempted to install Qupzilla to see if it would work, but it is *very* difficult to install and I forgot I have ANPM so I was trying to install all the components manually, but I must have forgot something or incorrectly installed it because when I try to invoke it from a command line, it just flashes and does nothing.

TIA,
Jordan

Surprised it worked so long. Your guess that they updated something to be flashy is probably right. Our old Firefox is lacking in various newer JavaScript.
Options are to install Dooble and use that or perhaps you can use Thunderbird to access your mail. Comcast probably has directions on how to setup Thunderbird somewhere. If you use IMAP, you can access your account from various devices, with POP, you have to be careful if you don't want to delete messages as you download them.
Personally, I like using a real email client such as Thunderbird (or SeaMonkey) but everyone has their own preferences
Edit: Dooble can be installed from an RPM using ANPM or cmdline, it is resource intensive and lacking in things like a password manager.

Hi jkrim

Can you also share the URL to check it out?
Like Dave said install Dooble and give it a try. Use ANPM or just run "yum install dooble".

i got a message from yum install Dooble that the package cannot be found.  :(

yum install dooble should work. Seems Yum is case sensitive.

Doesn't matter.   Dooble or dooble.  Neither work for me.

Are you using i686? IIRC, Dooble (and some of the supporting QT5 DLLs) is only available for Pentium 4.
Assuming you have a CPU that supports SSE2, go to @unixroot\etc\rpm\platform and change the line "i686-OS/2-OS/2" to "pentium4-OS/2-OS/2" (without the quotes) and retry. Doesn't really hurt to mix i686 and Pentium 4 though occasionally an update can get confused. It is a lot easier with ANPM, easier to change the platform and can right click on a package, choose get version or such and choose i686 or pentium4.

I really have no idea what you are saying, Dave.  This is a Core I5 VPro.  Anyway, after much manual installation of things, I got Dooble up and running but get this:

url = https://www.google.com

Load Error

Dooble cannot establish a secure connection to www.google.com. Please visit the Allowed SSL Ciphers panel and review your selections.

I tried to uncheck them all or check them all.  Doesn't seem to want to load a site (Google).

Do you have the ca-certificates package installed?
Better explanation. OS/2 RPM's come in two flavours, i686 and pentium4. i686 used to be the default and now has been mostly dropped. Pentium4 supports things like MMX and SSE.
@unixroot expands to the drive letter where your RPM stuff is installed, perhaps C:. By changing \etc\rpm\package you will switch to pentium4 packages, which are compatible to i686. As Dooble is only available as a pentium4 package, after changing the platform, everything you install will be a pentium4 package.

Hi, I confirm that with Firefox 45 can not see the "box" and can't type anything there. With Dooble I can see it and I type inside it.

About "i686 and pentium4". Check if you can change settings on ANPM to "pentium4". Go to "Manager -> Platform", in my case I only have "pentium4".

If you don't see  "Manager -> Platform", update your version of ANPM from this site: https://www.arcanoae.com/resources/downloadables/arca-noae-package-manager/

I changed the ANPM to pentium4, and update the ca-certificates (now pentiurm4 download), but still Dooble doesn't work.  Do I have to reinall all the Dooble dependent packages now with pentium4?

Delete the cache \home\.doolble. This could cause the browser not to work.

Hi Jordan.

The recommendation that is on the wild is that all your packages should be changed/reinstalled to pentium4 (if available on the RPM).

When you say "Dooble doesn't work" what do you mean? You double click it and just don't do or show anything? that may mean that some libraries are missing.
I like to use "PMDLL dooble.exe" for example to check any DLL that may be in red to know what is missing.

When I switched over, IIRC, I just used the pentium4 Qt5 packages. Perhaps you need to use the pentium4 OpenSSL and TSL packages to fix the HTTPS problem. As Roderick mentioned, also delete \home\.dooble.

I have no idea where Dooble "cache" is.   Where is /home/dooble on eCS?

Again,  Dooble opens and tyring url https://www.google.com says:

Load Error

Dooble cannot establish a secure connection to www.google.com. Please visit the Allowed SSL Ciphers panel and review your selections.

FYI, url http://www.google.com works but this won't help me access connect.xfinity.com.

What is supposed to be checked on the tab Windows -> Allowed SSL Ciphers ?  All unchecked?  All checked?

Try doing "SET HOME" in a cmd prompt and the answer should tell you where HOME is set
Code: [Select]
H:\tmp>set HOME
HOME=W:\Home
If it returns blank, you will have to create a home directory and add the SET HOME=c:\HOME or whatever and reboot. I don't know what Dooble will do without HOME set.
I don't seem to have an Allowed SSL Ciphers under Windows in the Settings but they should likely be all checked to be allowed
Title: Re: Login (userid) box for email missing in Firefox 45.9.0
Post by: jkrim on December 12, 2022, 03:57:51 am
SET HOME
D:\HOME\DEFAULT

Now, should I delete the entire d:\home\default\.dooble directory or just the d:\home\default\.dooble\cache directory (which is empty, so not much point to delete it)?

I checked all the boxes on Windows -> Allowed SSL Ciphers.  Still the same problem with https://www.google.com.

Should I do a yum reinstall (not even sure this will do something like replace i686 with pentium4 version if that is the problem) on all the dependent packages for Dooble?

Hmm, I don't have that menu, Help-->About reports version 2022.10.15,X
I'd delete the whole .dooble directory. As for doing yum reinstall, I don't think that will change the platform but you can try. Otherwise you will have to uninstall and reinstall or use ANPM (right click on package and choose Get Specific Release...
ANPM is available at https://www.arcanoae.com/wiki/anpm/ (https://www.arcanoae.com/wiki/anpm/) I'd advise reading the whole page. If needed we can nuke your RPM environment and start over, hopefully not needed.
Edit: ANPM will also fix your config.sys if needed, you need the RPM stuff close to the beginning of LIBPATH in case you have other versions of certain DLLs such as libc's installed

First, removing .dooble did nothing.  Had to re-enter my passphrase, then tried to go to a site and it didn't work.  I apparently do not have the latest Dooble.
I tried to do yum install dooble and got this:

Transaction Check Error:
installing package qt5-qtwebengine-5.15.2-1.oc00.pentium4 needs 6MB on the /@u
nixroot/usr/lib/ filesystem
installing package dooble-2022.10.15-1.oc00.pentium4 needs 8MB on the /@unixro
ot/usr/lib/ filesystem

Error Summary
-------------
Disk Requirements:
At least 8MB more space needed on the /@unixroot/usr/lib/ filesystem.

I don't know to "reduce" the space there.  Does it have to be in usr/lib or just the root dir in general?

OK.   I got it installed with yum install dooble, but cups.dll was missing so I added it.  Now I am trying to use pmdll to look at what might be missing but it won't come up.  And if I try to click on either icon or invoke it from the command line, it simplly exits.

You said you are using eCS? Double check that %UNIXROOT%\usr\lib is close to the front of LIBPATH, ok to have the dot and %UNIXROOT%\usr\local\lib before it, not OK to have x:\ecs\dll and/or x:\os2\dll in front. You really want to load the right DLL's, especially the libc ones.
As for the room that UNIXROOT needs, it is a problem if you have a small boot partition (a few GB) and install this stuff. You're options are limited, a bigger boot partition or move UNIXROOT to a different drive. To move it really means redoing it and now the current bootstrap comes with ANPM.

LIBPATH=.;D:\USR\LOCAL\LIB;D:\USR\LIB;E:\OPENJDK6\BIN;D:\PROGRAMS\RSJCD; ...

Looks good to me, but still no joy.  Just exits when invoked. :(

Memory? Try installing the highmem package and then go to d:\usr\lib and do "highmem -c qt5*dll"
This will load the Qt5 DLL's into upper memory. Be aware that your kernel has a bug and will leak high memory when you close and reopen the browser forcing reboots every day or so.

Highmem didn't help.  Still exits.
Meanwhile, can I safely remove %unixroot%\var\temp directory contents?   My root drive is running out of space.  I didn't make it large years ago.  I didn't realize I would have to install a ton of packages to get what I want.  (Wouldn't have to if Firefox was updated to support "modern" flashy stuff.  :( )

Sure, take a look at what is in it and unless there's something you want to keep (unlikely), clean it.
Unluckily updating Firefox to current is close to impossible, even if we had a skilled enough team to do it.
As for why Dooble don't work, I've run out of ideas for now.
Do other Qt5 apps work? There's a bunch of examples under D:\usr\lib\qt5\examples, perhaps test some, including under webwidgets. Might need to install aQt5 example package

Anything new in popuplog.os2? Look in \var\log\app and post the latest trp report. Double check it first in case there is something that needs sanitized in the memory dumps towards the end, unlikely but the odd time a password or such can exist in memory.

Hmm, a sigtrap, perhaps put in there for an OOM (out of memory) condition. Try doing the highmem -c thing again. Also try running the minimum stuff when starting it.
Also try increasing your VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT in config.sys. Ideally to 3072, if that results in system instabilty, try 2816, or 2560. It controls how much address space you have, bigger is better but sometimes it seems to conflict with hardware or kernel memory. Numbers need to, in hex, end with 00 so the reason for the odd numbers.

In a command window: change to the directory where dooble.exe resides (probably \usr\bin). Then execute dooble.exe from the command prompt, and see if an error message appears after dooble has exited again.

Sadly, no.

Can someone tell why in the crash log under \var\log\app  it says this:

Physical Memory:    3238 mb

(Little mb technically is milli bytes, but I think I get what it's saying - should be MB).
Anyway, this computer has 16 GB of memory, so 3G seems not correct.

32 bit Operating systems such as OS/2 can only address 4GB of ram. The top of the ram is used by PCI devices, video driver etc so generally about 3.5GB give or take. If you are using builtin graphics, you might be able to reduce how much it uses in the BIOS and claim a bit more but 3.2 MB is not unusual, here,
Code: [Select]
D:\>mem -v

Total physical memory:     12,169 MB
Accessible to system:       3,241 MB
Additional (PAE) memory:    8,928 MB

Resident memory:              179 MB
Available virtual memory:   1,896 MB

Available process memory:
  Private low memory:         318 MB
  Private high memory:      2,240 MB
  Shared low memory:          216 MB
  Shared high memory:       1,242 MB
So much the same as you. With ArcaOS, the inaccessible memory can be used for a ram disk, 8GB's here.

I could look at the BIOS to see if I can change something but I'm not sure I can find it and if it will help.  Plus dual booting to Win 10 on this system, so don't want to foul that up.

So is there any way to make this work?  If not, I think I have to give up and if so I would like to use Thunderbird.  I found some instruction for Comcast email, but the settings don't match at all with the Thunderbird I downloaded and installed (45.8.0).  I would appreciate any help as to how to configure it for my Comcast email.

Do you want POP or IMAP mail? POP downloads everything to the client, IMAP uses the copies on the server with the option of dwnloading for off line use. If you are using Windows as well to access, I'd suggest IMAP.

Right now I just use Comcast mail on the Web (hence this whole discussion as to Firefox suddenly not being flashy enough to show the login userid box etc. and the whole Dooble fiasco) so yes I think IMAP is the way to go to use Thunderbird or any other email client the same way.
I just don't see how to configure the OS/2 (eCS etc.) version.

OK, lets see if I can remember how to do it on a new install.
It may suggest setting up an account when first started, tell it later or you'll do it yourself. Forget the exact wording.
I'm using the settings from https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email (https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email) which Google said was right for comcast.
Once TB (Thunderbird) has started, go to Tools-->Account Settings which should open the Account Settings Window. At the bottom left there should be a button, Account Actions. Press and  Choose Add Mail Account.
Fill in your name, email address, and password. Click continue. If you're lucky, the rest will be automatic.
Otherwise we'll manually setup the server settings.

...and remember, even with IMAP accounts TB will enable you to d/l everything off of the server if you want speedier access to your emails...so it's not like IMAP limits you to always having to "go out there and retrieve each email".

I've been using Dave's TB release for our Gmail accounts a little over two years now, so far so good (+/- a few little glitches that are all Google specific).

So  I went and looked at that same URL.  I have TB 45.8.0, and unfortunately I have no Tools -> Account Settings, so I can't proceed further.

Update: Clicked on email.  Clicked on Skip this and use my existing email.  Entered name (wasn't sure if this was userid), email address and password.  It won't go.  Either the servers are wrong or I'm wondering if this will work at all.  I have 2 step verification where after entering my password it sends a text to my phone where then I put that code in which finally then loads my email.  Maybe TB doesn't support that?

Sorry, forgot about the stupid hamburger menu. Right click on the grey area just below the title bar and choose menu bar.

Hmm, it could, there's a browser in there as well and it tries something similar when I attempt to use Oauth2 authentication, which unluckily is broken. The question is how.
Can you go into Account Settings, look at the Server Settings for your account and report what the Authentication Method is?
I'll do some research but you might have to use something like an app password bypassing the 2factor authentication.
Must be other Comcast users here, maybe they'll chime in.

OK, looks right for normal use. is that the correct Username? I think it should be your full email address. See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/setting-up-thunderbird? (https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/setting-up-thunderbird?) though auto-detect seems to have gone away and "Normal Password" is common and likely right for you.

I tried Incoming Autodetect but the only button to push was re-test and it changed it right back to Normal Password after checking the server.
It looks like there is no client on OS/2 (eCS) that will do 2 way authentication, so I may just not be able to do email anymore on this platform. :(

Yes, it looks like it doesn't work with even close to up to date Thunderbird, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1320890 (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1320890) and likely not with any mail client.

Well, that's that.   Unless I magically find a way to get Dooble working, I guess I won't have email access for eCS.  Too bad Comcast decided to get fancy pants and obsolete the ability to logon with older browsers.

Update:  Yay!  Got Dooble working and don't even have to do highmen.  The key was (and I apologize that someone suggested this) was to do a yum update and although it didn't seem to work completely (some checksum error), this did not prevent Dooble from finally working!

Now, can anyone out there tell me if there is a way for Dooble to save open tabs like Firefox, so when you re open it they are all there?

Hi Jordan.

I'm sorry, but I don't use eComStation for a long time, I use ArcaOS. I had run Dooble on OS/2 Warp 4.52 VM and it runs and works.
I'm running out of ideas on how to make Dooble work on your system.

Can you can generate a "Testlog Generic" (get testlog here (http://88watts.net/dlfile.php?F=testlog-)) report and post is here. Maybe we can get an idea of what may be wrong with your system.

Do you have XWorkplace installed? Can you check if you have duplicated DLLS on "OS/2 kernel" ? (Check attached pictured, you may post your pic back).

Regards

See my update in previous post - got it working so some package was buggered apparently.  Thanks Martin, Dave and others for hanging with me.
Repeating my Dooble question:

Unluckily, you can't with Dooble. You can use History to restore recent sites and if you click the star in the URL bar, add sites to Favouites, which is under Tools and doesn't seem to work here.
It is a work in progress as well as the port being a work in progress and we're hoping that drag'n'drop eventually works for more bookmark options.
The checksum error seems to be there for everyone and is harmless. Make sure you keep the YUM/RPM stuff up to date as work is being done.

Hi.
I don't think that Dooble has that feature (not even the Windows/Linux versions). Dooble also does not has a password manager tool.
