Applications / Re: Windows Key - Custom Key Combination
« on: Today at 02:56:08 am »
Hi Ivan

I tried Win95Key according to your advice. It is interesting, I didn't recall using it on the past even that the name is very familiar.
It worked for me to put the "open folder" command on the LWin button. But I can not make a combination like LWin+E. It only allows combination with Ctrl, Alt or Shift as far as I tested it.

It has some issues that sometimes the configuration screen crashed with you press Windows keys. But I will keep looking, any feedback is welcome.

Just noticed that the link to download MED on the ecSoft/2 site is dead but I did find a valid, working link at:

FYI; It is also on Hobbes Archive: http://hobbesarchive.com/?detail=/pub/os2/apps/editors/MED_1-26.zip

Hello Again.

I noticed something in the "Workplace Shell" setup settings (XfdlWPS Class) on "Foder Hotkeys" while trying to create a shortcut.

When I add a hotkey, on the "Hotkey" field, I can only make key combinations that starts with the "Ctrl" and "Shift" key. ex:  "Ctrl+Shift+Alt+A" or "Shift+Alt+A" (Pic_001)
There can not be combinations that start or uses the "Windows key" or "Win Menu" key.

1) I think it will be great if  "Windows key" (left and right) and the "Win Menu" key can be include for combinations.  Or there is a reason not to do that today?

2) Also, what if, on the "Parameter" list we include the functions that are also listed on the "Keyboard - Windows Key" (STYLER.EXE W) settings. ? (Picture #2)
Or maybe this makes no sense, because are "Folder Hotkeys" and you want to to executing non-folder actions there.

Applications / Windows Key - Custom Key Combination
« on: March 28, 2024, 03:14:41 pm »
Hello

I wanted to try to some keyboard combinations to do some actions on ArcaOS.

My goal, as a example, I want to make the "Win-Lef key + E" combination to open a folder on an specific location and show that folder on the desktop, like opening C:\TEMP.

First I tried on the "Folder Hotkeys" on the "Workplace Shell" settings. I can map the Win-Left key, but I can not add an extra key like  "Win-Lef key + E".
If I map "Win-Lef key" alone, it works for the functions, but I have to select a folder in the desktop, and it will open or close it. But it is not exactly what I'm looking for.

Then I tried the XWorkplace Keyboard settings on the "Functions Key" tab. But I don't understand how to use it yet. I don't know how to get a key combination there, and later how to use it.

And later I tried the "Keyboard - Windows Key" settings. The Windows Key also works there, but I don't have an option to open an specific folder.

Any ideas are appreciated to get my goal.

Hi Neil

Did you notice that ecomstation.com is still on-line?

Just to add something, yesterday when I replied to jacco123, I tried to visit ecomstation.com and it was not working. I guessed that it was gone for good, but now I realize the website is still there. I stand corrected.

Hello jacco123

You may be right, but I prefer not getting OS2World into trouble. I prefer not to share any software key of abandonware on the forums without explicit and documented (email) permission from the author.
I don't want to risk the 24 years that OS2World had been online a for a simple product key.

Hi Richard

It's great that you want to have an OS/2 collection.
I have seen some posts from time to time of people wanting to sell or even give away for free some OS/2 goods on Facebook. I don't know if you hang out on that social network.

Hello Greg

Do you think it can be good to write a very short article for the OS2World Wiki about Detach?
I tried to find more information about it online and I was not able to find much.

Only this: http://www.edm2.com/index.php/REXX_Tips_%26_Tricks:General_hints_for_OS/2_%26_DOS_commands#The_DETACH_command

Hello again

I noticed that my "Box Picture Collection" on the OS2World Wiki was a mess, so I took to time this weekend to try to organize it.

Here it is the Wiki Category trying to be the thread for the IBM OS/2 boxes.

And it is also fun checking the international sites trying to find OS/2 boxes in different languages.
Everybody is welcome to post pictures and I will include those on the wiki.

Hello

Just a funny note here. There are some issues with OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11 box part numbers.

1) This ref says: "OS/2 2.1 (61G0900, 61G0901, 61G0902, 61G0903, 61G0904, 61G1877)"

2) Here I have pictures of "61G0900" where it says it is 2.11 (2.1 box + 2.11 Sticker)

3) OS/2 Museum explains: "Part numbers are also an interesting puzzle. In the pictures of the previously-linked-to 3.5″ 2.11 eBay listing, the bottom of the box plainly shows 61G0900, which was also the part # (as far as I have been able to tell) of the original, non-upgrade-edition 2.1 3.5″ floppy release from almost a year prior. "

It also applies for:
- IBM OS/2 2.11 - English - 63G4589  - 3.5" diskettes - Full Version
- IBM OS/2 2.11 - German - 63G3901 - 3.5" diskettes - Full Version

Maybe it also applies for the CD-ROM box.  Just a heads up that if you want to buy these version check the Part Number and the Pictures.

I don't have more pictures to compare.

Applications / Re: XWorkplace Xview - Icon Size
« on: March 21, 2024, 08:11:04 pm »
Hello Rich

Do you know if there is a way to increase the icon size on the "Xview" view in XWP?

If you want full-sized icons (40px), you can select View->Options and uncheck "Small icons".

That helped me in some way. I disabled the "Small Icons" (Picture Attached) and Xview it is better looking for me now, even that it will be nice to have also DynamicIcons (Big icons) support just because I need those just a little bit bigger in my laptop and I like the PNG icons that David does.

XWP is OSS licensed under the GPL. D.I. is proprietary software owned by ecoSoft that can only be distributed as part of AOS. Should I add support to XWP for a feature that only benefits some users - even if I can do it in a way that doesn't violate the GPL?

It would be more appropriate to add this support to D.I. but I don't own or control it. And quite honestly, I'm unwilling to work on profit-generating software without being paid for my efforts. As it happens, I just finished working on a major update to D.I. that AN did pay me for. But, are they willing to put out more money for yet another round of enhancements? I don't know.
I don't have the numbers on how many people uses OS/2 Warp 4.52 and how many uses ArcaOS. It will be fine to benefit the ArcaOS users, but I share your same concern. I don't think that XWP should adapt to DI, it should be the other way. XWP works over the standard IBM Workplace Shell and I don't think it should provide features for software that is not open source and was not part of the original WPS.

I guess I have a problem here. I want big icons on Xview but I don't want XWP source code to have dependencies on close source third party (with the exception of IBM's WPS of course)
