more components were packed as .rpm packages

I hope not!  OS/2 is not a Unix/Linux system and should never be.

As we all know getting drivers for modern hardware is like chasing a rainbow, you never catch it, but I can't help wonder which direction things are going.

Here is a short list from a new AMD based laptop

CPU name: AMD E2-7110 APU with AMD Radeon R2 Graphics, 4 logical CPUs

Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8821AE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter
VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Mullins [Radeon R3 Graphics]
Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] FCH Azalia Controller
SMBus: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] FCH SMBus Controller
SATA controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] FCH SATA Controller [AHCI mode]
USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] FCH USB XHCI Controller
USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] FCH USB EHCI Controller
Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller

The question is, how many of those are being investigated?

Lars is doing an excellent job with his USB drivers but what about graphics, networking and sound.

Has anyone compiled a list of typical hardware in modern laptops and systems and using it to see which direction development should be going?  If not then all the effort is being put into standing still and marking time.

Sorry to appear negative but we, the users, are not being given any idea as to what we can possibly look forward to.

Nothing as far as I know Neil.  We use them exclusively and recommend them to our clients.

My question was based on the problems a few people have mentioned here about eCS and 6 core AMD processors and the fact that most off the shelf machines come with Intel processors.

Are they going to test it AMD processor servers?  I do hope that AMD multi core processors get as much beta testing as Intel ones.

Did you use DFSee to setup the additional drive and give it the LVM information?

Did you install win 7 in a single partition or did it do the normal install and have a small hidden boot partition?

Both of those things can cause problems when trying to boot multiple OSs.  I don't know about air-boot, never used it, but bootmamager does need to know which partition has the OS boot information.  If your win 7 has the hidden partition that could change the drive letter assignment and so cause problems with OS/2 finding the files it need to complete the boot process.

I don't know if windows has such things as virtual floppies (we have them in OS/2).  If there is such a thing you can use that instead of the real floppy.

When I get to the office this evening I will dig out what we did to make a bootable CD way back in, I think, 2002 and email it to you.

Regarding the problem of making the floppies from the images on a windows machine.  There is an answer to that - EMT4WIN.  Unfortunately it is a bit too large to attach here and Daniel no longer has it on his site (moved on to win 8 and 10 but the OS/2 programs are still there).

Anyone wanting a copy send an e-mail to ivanjt at free dot fr and I will send it to you.

Have a look at the log files you may need to clean them out.  This is especially necessary if you are using samba and/or rsync to copy to your nas and you have full logging on.

The SET TZ is correct (it is the same on all of our workstations) and our daily check with 'europe.pool.ntp.org' using timeset only changes the odd tenth of a second.  It also changes the Daylight Saving Time at the correct time.

The attached is showing the time that NV4 has at startup, a short time ago, which is GMT  when it should be GMT+1.

To get a reasonably good idea of partition used and free size use FREEPM from Daniel F. Valot.

The problem is Doug that t Mark is trying to install on a computer with only a floppy drive for input and no USB ports - not an easy thing to do.

If push comes to shove and you have another computer that has a floppy drive it is possible to install Warp 4 with 2 floppies but it is a bit of a fiddle.

I assume you have access to a windows computer that has a CD and a floppy drive.  I say windows because Daniel F. Valot has a windows version of his EMT4PM Tools (floppy disk to/from image writer) so you can write the floppies from the images in 'DISKIMGS\OS2\35' on the CD.  All you then have to do is keep up with the floppy production.

I know this will work because I had to do it for one of our clients when one of their tool controllers HD died (fortunately the main board had provision to run a floppy drive) but it is a PITA to do.

Hi Mark.

At the moment we are on standard Europe time (GMT +1) and NV4 still shows GMT even when I change the place to Paris.

My assumption is that it is a Java problem with our openjdk6 port and not one of NV4.  It works if I remember to set the time at the start of NV4.

Another question.  When did you last clean up the ini files?  I have seen this when the ini files get too large because of 'junk' getting left in them.

I also agree with AndrĂ© and Andi.  Who in their right mind uses that size boot partition for OS/2?  It is the boot partition not the dump space for things like HOME and PROGRAMS.

Hi André,

Are you saying that actual time differences from GMT can be used rather than the text pair?  If so I will give that a try because using Europe/Paris just gives GMT, not the one hour advance of it that it should.
