Hardware / Re: panorama not remembering monotor resolution

So you are implying that those settings will work when the computer boots even with the monitor disconnected via a KVM switch - that has NOT been my experience, sorry.

Hardware / panorama not remembering monotor resolution
« on: December 01, 2022, 08:11:49 pm »
I have a very annoying problem.  If I boot the computer without the monitor being on panorama reverts to something like 640 x 480 which is stupid on my 1920 x 1200 28 inch monitor.
Is there a way to make panorama remember the monitor resolution?  I have no problems like this with Linux on the same monitor via a kvm switch.

Thanks everyone, I just passed this information on to my friend, what he will do I don't know.  I have been trying to get him to try OS/2, he is a Linux man, but he likes our desktop better than Cinnamon or any of the others they have (now I can go to bed, it has been a very long night)).  Again thanks all.

A friend asked me a question to which I don't have an answer and I was wondering if anyone here could help me.

Why do we use JPS formatted partitions when is anything goes wrong there is no way of recovering that partition?  With HPFS we might lose the odd file but not the whole partition.  My experience is that you had better have a full up to date backup and hope for the best with a JFS partition.

Hi Martin,

Yes you can.  It is all under the 'image' option, you may need to open DFSee in expert mode to see all the options.

Hi Martin,

Sorry I was mislead by your second picture which had a vBox mentioned.

In that real hardware case there should not be any problems.

Hi Martin,

You are on your own with anything in vBox (doesn't work on my OS/2 machines) but if it is a real hard drive making an image of a single partition or whole disk with DFSee just works assuming it is from - to another real hard disk.  In fact that is how I cloned most of my OS/2 machines.

Hi Dariusz,

No problems printing to either of my postscript printers (DCP9020cdw and HL3170cdw with the PSPRINT driver modified with the Brother PPD files) so sorry, can't reproduce your problem here.

Programming / Re: Building Qt5

Hi Dave,

A quick question if I may.  Which of the thirty odd packages does one need to have a runtime like we have for Qt4?  Is it even possible?

Hi Mark,

Further my statement that HDMI works without problems on all 8 of the computers I have tried it on maybe I should have stated that the video chip is part of the main processor (all Ryzen 3 variants with built in video).  I don't know if that changes anything but I haven't had a video card in a computer since AMD brought out their Vega graphics on the processor.

Hi Mark,

To answer your first question I have two ArcaOs, one OS/2 and one Linux Mint computers connected via HDMI cables to a 4Port KVM switch to my 28 inch 1920x1200 HDMI monitor - all work without problems.

Sound works with the Mint unit but I always get conflicts with the others - apparently too many sound systems on the motherboards and Ryzen processors.

I have two 4 port units working with out problems (for over 12 months).

TCNEWCL HDS-4P  4-Ports 4K HD KVM Switch.

Try and get one of the early ones they have an illuminated remote switch, the newer ones just have push button remote switch which means you need the main unit visible to see which computer is the active one unless you know a way to force panorama to remember which large wide screen resolution you want if all the computers are powered off at start.

Thanks Tom, I always forget it is only http.  I must say there are some good OS/2 programs there.

The easy method I use is EMT4PM from
It can also check and mount your image files.

The simple way to see directory size and amount of space taken up by files is to use  it even shows total disk size as well,
