 Hi Jochen,

Well, I tried it again today and it seems to work OK. Don't know what was going on yesterday - maybe memory fragmentation? - but no trouble today. I'm using Panorama and the latest UniAud from Paul. Sorry for the alarm...

 Hi Jochen,

If I start pmboom-plus.exe by itself, my system locks solid and I have to do a hard reset. If I start the server, then run pmboom-plus.exe, it works fine. So this is not correct? Is there a way to enable some logs?

Thanks Jochen! It seems to work great here (once I realized you have to start the server first). And KMidi and Timidity work fine together... KMidi will be the default, but if you right-click on a *.mid file, and choose 'Open as..', then you should have Timidity++Player as a choice in the drop-down list.

 Hey Guys,

According to Wikipedia (  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JFS_%28file_system%29  ) the JFS file system has a maximum file size of 4PB, and maximum volume size of 32PB. Since JFS allows 'spanning' of partitions to create large volumes, wouldn't it be possible to have 3 2TB partitions (to use Neil's example) 'spanned' as a 6TB 'drive' (that is: a non-bootable Volume)? Or do I misunderstand and Wikipedia is wrong (at least for OS/2)? I've never actually spanned partitions, so not sure how that works...

 Hi Martin,

Glad you got it working! I like to try out different soundfonts - amazing how they can sound very different on the same MIDI files.

If you run into any problems with MIDI, be sure to report at www.github.com\komh. I reported a couple and they were quickly fixed.

Hope you can straighten out the looping issue too.

 Hi Martin,

The fluidsynth soundfont is called 'FluidR3_GM.sf2'. You have to rename it to 'ksoftseq.sf2' when you copy it to C:\MMOS2. I can't imagine what else might have installed it on my machine other than Fluidsynth... If you just can't find it, get 'eawpats.sf2' from the internet and use that. Any soundfont will do.

 Hi Martin,

Unfortunately, I have no experience with OS/2 VM's, so can't help with the looping sound - maybe try a different sound device or driver? I know AN put out a fix for that years ago (should be included with ArcaOS) and I have not had it since on bare metal.

Make sure you install version 2.0.0 of libkai and at least version 2.1.5 of fluidsynth. Version 2 of libkai is still on the netlabs-exp repository.

You also need to install a sound font named 'ksoftseq.sf2' in the C:\MMOS2 folder. Fluidsynth installs one in C:\usr\share\sounds\sf2 - you could copy that one into the c:\MMOS2 folder and name it 'ksoftseq.sf2'. Or, you can search the net for 'eawpats.sf2' and use that if you prefer the Timidity sound (renamed ksoftseq.sf2 of course).

Check in the Multimedia Setup folder for a tab called 'K Soft Sequencer'. Make sure it is the default MIDI device (or only one). This will verify it really was installed.

 Hi Martin,

That's what I mean... it uses a MIDI codec*. You double click a MIDI file and it plays just like a WAV file. A new tab is added to the Multimedia setup app too...

Regards,

*EDIT: technically not a CODEC, but an IOProc.

Hey Martin,

In case you didn't know, Ko Myung-Hun has made an MMOS/2 MIDI player called 'Ksoftseq' that uses Soundfonts and Fluidsynth. Available on Hobbes. It works great here - you can double click a MIDI file and it plays. You need the latest Fluidsynth, the latest Kai and kmididec as well as ksoftseq (all on Hobbes). Also need at least one soundfont (named as ksoftseq.sf2 in C:\MMOS2), but there are tons of them out there and fluidsynth comes with one. There is even eawpats.sf2 if you want to keep the Timidity sound.

Setup & Installation / Re: Booting with NVMe
« on: April 15, 2021, 05:26:42 am »
 Neil,

I don't use Air-boot. The problem was I couldn't boot the install USB stick with the NVME driver added (it worked without NVME), but it turns out somehow unexpectedly /VW was being added to the ACPI.PSD line in CONFIG.SYS only if I choose to add NVME - no idea why - so I removed the /VW and now can boot the USB install stick with NVME. Now to try installing...

I've also been struggling to get this to work. I put NVME.ADD in the root of the USB ArcaOS 5.0.6 install boot drive. Booted from it, choose boot with own values, add the NVME driver on the drives page, checked config.sys - the driver is listed as BASEDEV=NVME.ADD, hit F10, the boot continues, then hangs at the ArcaOS logo (needs a hard reboot). Tried different orders of disk drivers, but all hang.

The driver works fine booted from my SATA drive, and I have created a volume on the NVME drive and formatted it and copied files back and forth with no issues. Just can't seem to boot with it loaded on the USB boot stick...

 Paul,

Thanks for the head's-up... it is working well here. One thing I notice - with your build on my machine, the driver uses IRQ16, but David A's version uses IRQ55. Does he add some secret sauce for that? Is there an advantage to a higher IRQ?
