I did new tests... (use of DHCP in both test from default install)

Booting ArcaOS disk -> speed test nearly 10Mbps

I then did a test installing ArcaOS into Virtualbox (using default "NAT mode" Virtualbox network driver then the native installation one without virtualbox) under windows 7 -> speed test gives nearly 58Mbps !!

For me it looks the native driver used with my onboard network card (Realtek® 8111G Gigabit LAN) is not well working and is the culprit of bad speed. The driver has to be corrected and is buggy and this test confirms other tests I already did.

For everyone using the (lousy) OS/2 DHCP client (dynamic IP address served by a DHCP server instead of static address), you need to add this line to %ETC%\dhcpcd.cfg:

ifconfig_options "mtu 1492 -trailers"

Adjust to your needs. "-trailers" promises some speed improvement, I don't know if that helps.

Does not improve performance here.

Hi!

I use Injoy (latest build) too and I could do test without it (same results) as well checked and set the correct maximum MTU.
I have a similar problem, speed didn't go above 15Mbps while I have 75Mbps under windows.

I have the problem using my local NAS or going on intenet.

I have 6 Reatek gigabit NICS. Realtek can't seem to make up their minds about how their gigabit NICs actually work. Every version works different from those that came before. The only driver that seems to work properly, on all of them, is the Arca Noae supplied MMRE driver. Of course, my newest one is now a couple of years old, so they may have created yet another one (or two), that isn't working with MMRE. If you are using the latest MMRE driver, report the problem to Arca Noae, and see if it can be fixed. If you aren't using the latest, I strongly suggest getting it, and see if it helps.

It has been my experience, that manufacturers love Realtek products, because they are cheap. Being cheap, they don't work well, sometimes. With MMRE, the performance, that I see, is actually almost as good as what I see with my Intel gigabit NICs.

CAT5 cable between my OS/2 box and the router...maybe try something as simple as plugging in another CAT5e or CAT6 cable?

CAT5 should be okay, for anything less than 10 feet (3 meters), as long as it doesn't have a broken wire. With broken wires, the cable will often still work, but it will have problems. CAT5, CAT5e and CAT6 really aren't much different, for short runs, but the newer ones are supposed to be built to better quality standards, so the chances of having a bad connection should be far less (but certainly not impossible). Definitely, try different cables.

Hi Doug,

I use latest Arca Noae MMRE.
The cables are fine ( up to above 250Mbps between end point ( pc - cable CPL -/- CPL - cable - fiber box ) tested under windows )

The shipset is on the mainboard one and no other external cards.
The mainboard is a MSI sli krait z97

Network driver
With only 20% speed of what the system is able under windows.

To resume:
Under windows, I have 75Mbps
Under ArcaOS, I only have 10Mbps - all is going slow despite all optimization have been set (before optimization, speed was near 5 Mbps)

This seems to depend on what program you use, and what tool you use to measure it. It also depends on what else is running at the same time. I find that the network activity will slow dramatically, if you are also doing a large write to USB. I also see many cases where IPMON says that very little network activity is taking place, but RSunc is doing a multi gigabyte data transfer, at a reasonable speed. I also have an ArcaOS machine, that is used as a NAS. I often see it doing 30 to 40 MBs (according to IPMON, which seems to be unreliable) transfer speeds. when more that one machine is working on SAMBA.

I agree that there is a problem with something, but I don't agree that it is the network driver that is causing the problem. One possibility is that all drivers (or whatever does it) will only return a speed of 100 MBs, in OS/2. If a program actually looks at that, and follows it, the speed will be governed to 100 MBs. From what I see in IPMON (which is obviously unreliable)., the speed is far less than what windows does. If I time a network transfer, at half the speed of windows, it doesn't vary much.

I have the problem using my local NAS or going on intenet.
My conections are going though "CPL" this part has a mesure speed of up to 230Mbps under windows.
All test where done with only firefox up and running (going through Injoy firewal or not (no high impact seen when using injoy) , nothing else and each time, the speed is nearly 20% of what I have under windows. Display under firefox is much slower than under windows etc... ( unresponsive end point already often happens making me to disable/enable the interface to get again a responsive network with only the 20% of speed ! because I use a loy my nas and network, this is very impacting and using my nas for backup is not possible due to the long needed time to proceed )

Onboard shipset: Realtek RTL8111G

Hi,

Be carrefull if you use other language than EN with accent characters. Prefer EN
I've got issue with path created having unvalid characters (frech accent in my case) which should be resolved in a futur update/release
No issue using EN.

That should not be a problem is you save as .DOC  (MS-Word), as the file is then saved with a Windows charset that is read correctly by AOO, it is files saved with a OS/2 charsets that give problems when importing to OO.

No, not for user files, WPS has french names with accents and in some cases (moving folders, deleting folders...) path names have then accent characters in it which are invalid (this makes the path undeletable and unrecognized - I had to use dfsee edit tool - thanks to dfsee develpper for his help - to remove the accent characters into path names). Now, it seems that ArcaOs team found a solution to prevent this kind of problem into next releases...

Applications / Re: ClamAV-GUI v3.5.1 (rexx based)
« on: January 12, 2018, 08:57:03 pm »
Hi !

I hope putting online 3.6.0 on Monday the 15th January.

It has some added options and of course, you can drag/drop files or folder on it to be scanned and you can call it from under WPS folder menu
after updating the menu entry with a link to ClamAVGUI as before.
- To do this -
Open "Extented Menu Options" folder provided under ArcaOS
Edit -> create an other (program)
with :
Full program path
%* as Parameters
path as working directory
- End -

Add the extra package from hobbes as suggested into readme.1st

Here is a view about update ClamAVGUI with it desktop widget at the right bottom

It would be nice having latest Qupzilla 2.2.3 ported to OS/2
It is very fast (I tested the portable build under windows) with a nice rendering and it could be a welcome FF replacement.

ClamAVGUI 3.6 in progress (under test)

New options:
- generate and compare MD5 SHA SHA256 file checksum ( use of Clamav provided function - sigtool )
( The compare option requires cca_112 to provide copy/paste from clipboard into rexx dialogs)
- Select a file from menu file option to be scanned
- tried to add a rootkit (very basic process - create a initial main system files liste with size at install time. Then check if some of them are been changed or not compared to the initial "image")

Storage / Re: Is there OS/2 specific way to deploy a desktop system SSD?
« on: December 31, 2017, 08:30:01 pm »
Most modern SSD have integrated "garbage collector" process.
Just check the SSD has it.
Prevent use of swap file on the SSD (a lot of write operation may reduce time life but priviledge MLC SSD instead of TLC for increased To write operations)

Hardware / Re: Hardware Reports / Reviews - More - MORE !!!!
« on: December 09, 2017, 05:09:03 pm »
Hi Ivan.

Thanks. Here it goes:
- Brother ADS-1600W (Scanner)
- Roccat Isku+
- Corsair Gaming K95 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Does the Corsair K55 does not work at all as a regular keyboard? Can you generate the hardware report of it to also document it? Or it does not even get recognized by the USB stack?

Regards

I have this scanner and I never could make it working !
How did you made it work ?
What are your definitions ?
Thanks

Ok
- Enable network under ADS1600W and connect it.
- Creates a folder for ADS1600 on my NAS (which has ftp server enabled)
- Created 3 profiles under
   http://ip@/scan/scanprofile.html
tried secure ftp but it didn't success  -  used  local network ftp on port 21
   * profile for pdf
   * profile for pdf (ignore blank page)
   * profile for jpg
- Having a netdrive network connection to my NAS under ArcaOS, I could read scanned document
   (fine)

Select which profile to take (from those previously created) from under ADS1600W display (sensitive)
And scan + FTP
