Games / Re: ArcaOS - Retro Gaming Machine
« on: February 01, 2019, 10:51:33 pm »
I agree that
OS/2 as Retro Gaming Machine
could become perfect Area of OS/2 Usage. I see demand on old DOS games among simple Windows users. And they can spend some USD to such computer.

Yes, main barriers: SoundBlaster support in DOS VM, and problems of DOS VM on newer machines

Brother MFC-L8850CDW spec => https://support.brother.com/g/b/spec.aspx?c=us_ot&lang=en&prod=mfcl8850cdw_us_eu_as
seems that it supports PostScript and PCL.
OS/2 supports all PostScript printers.

Networking / Re: ArcaOS network compatibility with OS/2

* 80% of people select default options in the installer. So, we can make the conclusion that ArcaOS is installed with Samba client by default, without IBMPEERS.

* I understand that Samba is modern. There is only one question: can you connect to remote OS/2 disk using Samba client?

WHY IBMPEERS is disabled by default?
How is it possible? Who made the decision?
What to expect in the next version of the OS?

Networking / ArcaOS network compatibility with OS/2
« on: March 08, 2018, 02:00:55 pm »

It's not clear, does ArcaOS work with other OS/2 computers in local network?

IBMPEERS is absent in ArcaOS. Samba client is installed instead.

We can't find information how ArcaOS computer can access disks of other OS/2 computer?
(other OS/2 computer: eComStation 2.2 with IBMPEERS)

How to install IBMPEERS?

Applications / Re: File Open dialog not resizable?
« on: March 08, 2018, 10:30:59 am »
yes, File Open Container seems more powerful and modern.

we have developed it for modern monitors, for modern file types. So it fits the needs of OS/2 users.

Applications / Re: File Open dialog not resizable?
« on: March 07, 2018, 09:09:52 am »
1) File Open Container was developed in 2010, it is debugged and solid. It can be improved one more time (The list of tasks is defined. Waiting for financing)

2) File Open Container is activated by default in ArcaOS
and can be activated in eComStation 2.x http://en.os2.guru/projects/foc/?action=faq

3) The developers can use extra functions of FOC which simplify the development
http://en.os2.guru/toolkit
the runtime is installed by default in eCS and ArcaOS

4) not resizable window of FOC - seems that this application fixates the size. Major part of applications don't fixate the size of FOC.

Killer application is the topic #1.

There are 2 ways: 1) degradation and shrinking of the market  OR  2) expansion and growth

No killer application - no sellings of new licenses. If the killer application exists, then 1 license can be sold today.

So, the internals are very different.
