Hardware / Trap 000e and Sockets
« on: November 23, 2019, 03:33:35 pm »
As some of you probably have noticed I have been trying to deal with some server issues that have built up over the years as a result of it being left unattended, (due to personal tragedy), now that I have the time.

I have most of them wrapped up and only one is outstanding; sometimes my server will trap;
Trap 000e; Sockets.
It doesn't happen often, but contrary to that, it did so twice yesterday which probably means that it is increasing in frequency. But whether that is true or not, I have to deal with it.

The problem with traps generated by TCP/IP socket I thought had been permanently deal with by IBM with their last TCP/IP update. As a result of that one seldom reads anything about it anymore.

Has anyone here experienced such issues and if so, have any pointers on where to look?
My guess would be crappy NIC drivers, but I need to have more to go on before spending money on something that may not solve the problem.

Thank-you.

Networking / OS/2 to Ubuntu: Any options other than Samba?
« on: November 22, 2019, 06:07:42 pm »
I have been using Samba to connect my LAN for years now.

However, catering to Samba under the Ubuntu upgrades, (getting the OS/2 machines to continue to see Samba shares hosted by Ubuntu), has been time consuming at a point in my life when I simply do not have the time.

Are there any other options to connect all machines on the LAN, (Windows 7, eCS & Ubuntu), that does not add security risks?

(FTP is not enough).

Setup & Installation / Trying to solve server crash
« on: November 12, 2019, 03:58:51 pm »
My server has recently been having stability issues. It locks solid and leaves little indication as to what is going on.
In trying to track the problem down I noticed the following error repeated in my

Hello, everyone.

I have been running ANPM 1.0.2 without any issues for a while now.

I recently installed version 1.0.4; the installing went smoothly, yet when I attempted to run it I received a pop-up window with the following error, (this from the error.log):

Line 15 of Init in yumie.VRM:
+++     Call rwIniLoadFuncs;
*** Error 43 Routine not found
Line 47 of Main in yumie.VRM:
+++   Call Init;

Any ideas as to what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks.

Internet / Moylan's FTP site - trouble?
« on: June 07, 2018, 02:57:59 pm »
I have been trying to connect to Peter Moylan's FTP site using nFTP.

While I can ping and "connect" to the site no data is returned, the connection is broken, 120 seconds later a retry is attempted.

I tried this using Firefox and it cannot connect either; Can anyone connect to this site:
ftp.pmoylan.org or pmoylan.duckdns.org.

Internet / nFTP Source Code
« on: June 07, 2018, 02:02:00 pm »
Many years ago when the authors of nFTP(PM) were in the process of ending the development of this great program and I had the foresight to ask if they would pass along the source code.

Lo and behold, they were gracious enough to send me a copy.

At the time I was still into programming, (I can't stand it, gave it up and never speak of it), but I never did do anything with it.

I thought that I had lost it in a hard disk crash many years ago, but I just found a copy.

I have no idea if the source code for this is out there already, (if so, I know nothing about it), but if any developer/programmer here would like to do something with this source code send me a PM/E-mail address and I'll pass it along.

Utilities / Links?
« on: May 02, 2018, 04:06:09 pm »
I am surprised that there is not a forum here dedicated to WPS/Desktop/PM issues, as such, I'll post this topic here. Maybe Martin might consider adding one, (did I overlook it?).

Of course, I know all about object shadows et all, but is there an OS/2 equivalent to *nix links? Shadows can come and go and might not necessarily survive a desktop restore. I would like something more permanent.

Any ideas?

Networking / Routing Issues?
« on: April 20, 2018, 04:41:49 pm »
I have a small problem with routing... maybe.... maybe not.

I have two machines; one is my work machine with one NIC and the other is a server/gateway with two NICS; one connecting to the work machine and the other NIC which has IJFirewall and connects to a modem which has the Internet line.

The work machine has the IP address 192.168.0.1 and the server has 192.168.0.2 for the LAN and 192.168.2.9 for the line to the modem.
The modem's IP address is 192.168.2.1

I have had this setup working fine for years. But there is one nagging problem; I cannot CMD ping *.*.2.1 from the work machine nor any other outside address either using the domain name or the IP address for a destination.

Now get this; PMPing has no problem pinging anywhere -inside or outside- on the work machine. The cmd ping will work fine for anything on the LAN, just not outside.

The server has no issues pinging anything in anyway or to anywhere.

I am not sure that it is relevant in this case, but the following is the setup.cmd for the work machine, and after that, for the server;

Code: [Select]
inetcfg -s all
route -fh
arp -f
ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
ifconfig lan0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 metric 0 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan0
REM ifconfig lan1
REM ifconfig lan2
REM ifconfig lan3
REM ifconfig lan4
REM ifconfig lan5
REM ifconfig lan6
REM ifconfig lan7
REM ifconfig sl0
route add default 192.168.0.2 -hopcount 0
route add net 192.168 192.168.0.2 -hopcount 0
ipgate off

Server setup.cmd:

Code: [Select]
inetcfg -s all
route -fh
arp -f
ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
ifconfig lan0 192.168.2.9 netmask 255.255.255.0 metric 0 mtu 1500
ifconfig lan1 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan2 metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan3 metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan4 metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan5 metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan6 metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig lan7 metric 1 mtu 1500
REM ifconfig sl0
route add default 192.168.2.1 -hopcount 0
route add -net 192.168 192.168.2.1 -hopcount 0
ipgate on

Simple enough, yet not so simple.

Internet / Firefox and Traps
« on: March 25, 2018, 09:58:54 pm »
I recently developed a problem with Firefox, (any version).

It has something to do with DIVE.DLL, but I have no idea what is happening here.

If I start the program the profile manager will popup but when any profile is selected, (or when trying to create a new one), Firefox exits leveling a Trap file.

Here is a snippet from it;

Code: [Select]

Utilities / CFGTool
« on: March 11, 2018, 09:15:13 pm »
I have been looking at the old CFGTool by Dick Goran. This program no longer runs on my machine  refusing to load the CFGTool.dat file for some reason, though I have tried different versions of that file.

I am using version 1.30 of CFGTool with the two upgrades.

Is anyone successfully using this program?

Setup & Installation / Issues with YUM
« on: March 01, 2018, 07:49:03 pm »
Hello everyone.
I have recently been trying to recover from a major OS/2 server wipeout that has been running for a decade without problem, but from which I have been months now trying to recover from, (memory, hard disks and motherboard failures).

I only have a few issues left at this point and one of them is trying to get YUM/RPM working again. I have had some success but at this point running "yum update" or much of anything YUM for that matter, yields the following error.

Code: [Select]
http://rpm.netlabs.org/release/00/i386/repodata/d5352bdb19c39f7275f4a77a53c08c8c5a13e47f2ff1974518e2ba4edebe3588-primary.sqlite.bz2: [Errno 9] Requested Range Not Satisfiable
Trying other mirror.
Error: failure: repodata/d5352bdb19c39f7275f4a77a53c08c8c5a13e47f2ff1974518e2ba4edebe3588-primary.sqlite.bz2 from netlabs-rel: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

I have tried various installs/reinstalls, I have followed FAQs, I have "cleaned all", but in the end it comes back to the above errors.

Does anyone here know how to solve the above issue?

Thanks.

Utilities / FM/2 loading issue
« on: February 28, 2018, 03:09:34 pm »
I have been using FM/2 for many years back until the 90s when I bought a license from Mark Kimes.

However, recently FM/2 has been failing to load and the attached image pops up. There are no error logs generated anywhere and no indication that anything else is wrong. I have reinstalled, used existing older copies, restored old desktops and perused my Config.sys, (which has the appropriate FM/2 statements still there and intact), but all to no avail.

Has anyone encountered this problem before or have a suggestion or a solution?

Thanks.

Applications / FMT
« on: February 23, 2018, 04:03:15 pm »
I have a problem that has been nagging me for years. It's a nuisance, not a major problem but I'm wondering if anyone here has a solution.

When using the ALT-F! CMD my favourite file manager is FMT. However, whenever I try to load FMT from the boot drive it just hangs with a flashing "_". I can CAD and reboot.

I have the FM/2 directory in my path statements. I have tried *.cmd files with contents like;

'F:
cd \FM2
FMT.exe'

or simply

'F:\FM2\FMT.exe'

but it always hangs the system when in the root directory on the boot drive.

What DOES work is simply changing to F: and then running any of the above *.cmds.

Does anyone have any idea why these problems persist or possibly come up with a CMD that would solve this issue?

Thanks.

Networking / RTL8211CL DRIVER
« on: February 20, 2018, 06:52:28 pm »
Hello

I recently had to upgrade my motherboard and it came with a built-in LAN that uses the RTL8211CL chipset, however, I have not been able to find a driver for it.

Does anyone know of a driver that works with that chip and where I can get it?

Thanks

Web applications / REXX and 'mode'
« on: February 08, 2018, 07:00:25 pm »
Hello, everyone.

I have recently had some serious hardware issues on my server(s) and in the rebuilding process I have taken some time to rework the *.cmd files that start and restart my servers. The following example is for named.exe, but is typical of how I start/restart all of my server software.

While the following REXX script

Code: [Select]
--
/* 'Named Run.cmd' starts the DNS server named.exe  and keeps it going. Created 180127
   Last modified 180128, 180201, 180208, */

Do Forever

'ECHO OFF'

/* set window size */
'mode 29,7'

Say 'Named is running'

/* adjust as necessary */
'set path=C:\mptn\etc'
'C:'
'cd \mptn\etc'
'named'

Call Syssleep 2
end
exit do
--

works fine and loads the server well enough, (in this case named.exe), when it auto restarts after it fails, (or by testing via ^C), I get the following error;

Code: [Select]
SYS1041: The name mode is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
    10 *-*     'mode 29,7';
       +++       RC(1041)

I'm no expert on this, but I know that some people who frequent this site are.

Can one of you experts, (or anyone for that matter), tell me why "mode 29,7" is accepted at first run, but not upon restart?

Thanks.
