General Discussion / Re: OS/2 on a Via C7 desktop?
« on: June 07, 2021, 02:54:09 am »
For TC's of that vintage I have had much better results using HP's, TECO's and in particular IGEL hardware to run OS/2 derivatives on.

Could you specify what models you succeeded with installation ?

I own HP T620 (https://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/hp/t620/) and run Windows XP on it for post 2000’s games.

Recently I bought for cheap HP T5720 (https://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/hp/t5720/) but without RAM and HDD so it need my attention.
Also I own Fujitsu Futro S400 (https://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/Futro/s400/). It have the same specs as T5720. I successfully run Windows 98SE on it. Quake 3 on high details plays nice.

Also I have Wyse V30LE and V90L (https://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/wyse/vx0/WyseV90.shtml). They differ only on CPU clock. Both are VIA Eden C7, V30LE has 1,2GHz and V90L 800MHz.
On V30LE I run without any problems Windows Me and 2000. Just swap RAM for those two. For Me I use 512MB RAM and for 2000 swap it with 1GB. HDD is IDE to SD adapter with 32GB card. Like with RAM I just swap them for Me or 2000.

V90L is sitting on a shelf right now. Some plans for it but for now no time to do it.

I also try install ECS 2.1 on both those Wyse via Samsung usb cd/dvd-rom. Unfortunately every time I try to select boot “default values” or “own values” it stops with this error:
CD-ROM sector read error (drive=9F, sector=16, Code=01).
Drive is not faulty because I use it to all the time on those thin clients and my other devices. Also was able to boot ECS 2.1 form it on different computer. No luck with installation but it proves that ECS 2.1 can boot from this Samsung drive.

You shouldn't be using Panorama in VirtualBox, but rather the Gradd driver included with the OS/2 additions.

Another great tip! I will correct this!

Also if this would be helpful for anyone:

I delete VLSub file from Extensions folder. It offten crush and kill VLC.

Also VLC crush and basicly pulled down whole system if I push "stop" button. But after disselect "shadow buffer" on Panorama screen setup it now acting normal after pushing "stop".

It works! There are some sound glitches and stuttering but mayby because it run on VirtualBox.

Thank you  :)

I got some sound problem with my VM for eCS 2.1 and Warp 4.52.
I don’t know if it is a particular VirtualBox problem or problem with those OS in general.

I was able to successfully install ANPR (on Warp 4.52 also deal with “drive D: not ready” error) and update the systems.

On both install Firefox 45, SeaMonkey and VLC (all newest versions, update dll’s)

First I acknowledge this problem on eCS 2.1. I install it with Uniaud and AC’97 as sound device.
System sounds, mp3 in PM123 works normally. But there was no sound from web browsers and VLC. I try with UniMixer and also download and install newest Uniaud from eCSoft2.org. But still there was no sound from VLC and browsers.
So I change sound device in VM to SB16 and install drivers for it. Now there is sound on VLC but it sill is missing on browsers. But when stream url form YouTube in VLC sound plays normal.

Same is on Warp 4.52 (there I install it with SB16 in the first place) no sound in browsers but streams and mp3 plays normal on VLC.

So I am wonder if this is some problem with using those in VirtualBox or this is general problem even on real hardware.

Applications / Re: ANPM on Warp 4.52 - Error and Loop on RPM/YUM install
« on: November 18, 2020, 06:18:02 pm »
LIBPATH=C:\USR\LOCAL\LIB;C:\USR\LIB;
You should better ensure that one segment with a single dot is added to LIBPATH. The default place is at the begin: LIBPATH=.;LIBPATH=C:\USR\LOCAL\LIB;... but some experienced ones of us prefer adding it to the end: LIBPATH=...;.;

If the dot is not added, many programs that come with additional DLLS in the dir of the EXE won't find them.

I will corrected that! Thanks for info.

Hi,
This is my first post on this forum 😊

This also resolve problem I had on install of eCs 2.1 on VirtualBox.
ANPM had error that loop every time I try to run it. It was messaging that YUM/RPM is not installed.
I tried everything but nothing was working.
So I found this instruction on OS/2 wiki and tried it on my eCs 2.1 VM.

So after installing ANPM and then from it YUM/RPM I edit config.sys and ad this:
LIBPATH=C:\USR\LOCAL\LIB;C:\USR\LIB;
PATH=C:\USR\BIN;
SET UNIXROOT=C:

And it worked! 😊
Only everytime I run ANPM it was messaging about changing config.sys.
Since I done it myself I was clicking “NO”, but this message get irritating so finally I click “YES” and it still works.

I was able to update all repositories. Install Firefox, SeaMonkey and VLC…… and then run into some problem but describe it different thread 😊
