Actually it does, it name had "wp" and "20" something. I didn't write it down because I didn't like the quick laucher anyway. Back in the day when I used WP 6.1 in Windows 3,1 and laiter Windows 95 I found it annoying and disabled it.

I have some games that won't run on a modern Windows pc. And then there are some specific multimedia CD-ROM's from the late 90s and early 2000s, for example, one about all the Finnish political leaders. It would be fun to be able to run those. But there is nothing indispensable. I'm able to use the Microsoft Office 365 environment with Firefox among other cloud applications I need at work. It seems that it's quite indifferent which operating system I run these days as long as it connects to Internet and has a browser modern enough.

Like Neil said, the future might be in cloud computing. There are some benefits to that but also disbenefits. For example, I am quite happy to be able to use a dictionary application I bought 20 years ago instead of Google translator. The Finnish "Euro Tranlator 3,1" runs perfectly under WinOS/2 and even supports Russian language.

The integration tools seem to work except Quicklaunch (there's an error message about a missing DLL). Thanks!

No, that's not it. It seems to be a native OS/2 version of WordPerfect 5.2 and it doesn't install under ArcaOS. I tried. There's an error message about insufficient RAM. Probably it was never compatible with Warp 4 in the first place.

I own a copy of WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows and it runs well under WinOS/2. However after installation there's a message box that states that additional tools for OS/2 is available and the OS/2 support disk should be ordered from Corel. That's not possible, of course, and I haven't been able to find the disk image from the Internet either. Does some one here perhaps have a copy of the disk?

Applications / Compiling Word 1.1 from the source code
« on: August 25, 2019, 12:41:22 pm »
For some time ago Microsoft has made the source code of Word 1.1 for Windows available (https://github.com/BlastarIndia/msword). I've read that OS/2 version is also included and some people have compiled the software under OS/2. But how is it done? I have tried to make sense of the included documentation and tools but haven't been able to compile the software succesfully.

It's quite outdated software but it would be very interesting to try to use it under OS/2. I have Word 6.0 for Windows that runs without any issues in the WinOS/2 environment but I would very much like to run native OS/2 software when possible.

It's also possible to install Windows 95 under dosbox. At least that's the case with the Linux version of dosbox. Have someone tried it with the OS/2 version?

But personally when it comes to DOS and Windows 3,1 I would rather use the environment that comes with the os rather than dosbox. One of the most important reasons to use OS/2 is the native support for old DOS and Windows 3,1 software.

I have lots of old software I like to run because newer versions aren't always better. The problem is that you aren't able to buy licenses for the older versions anymore. It's quite rare to be able to buy old software from the vendor and eBay and other similar sites are the only alternative. Many of the former software companies don't even exist anymore.

Applications / Re: "Resetting" WinOS/2 environment
« on: August 25, 2019, 12:26:26 pm »
I've fixed the issue, I think. The cause was following Gregg Young's tip to use "DOS=HIGH, UMB" in CONFIG.SYS instead of the default "DOS=LOW, NOUMB". Loading DOS high caused some issues within the WinOS/2 environment. I also experienced sound problems and crashes when playing games with sounds. The cause was os2audio.drv from "WinOS2_Audio_19980501.zip" that I came across at Hobbes . I switched to  "OS2WAVE.drv" from "genaud-v3.1r02" and seems to work when 'EMS_MEMORY_LIMIT' is set to ZERO in the WinOS/2 settings.

Lewis Rosenthal has said that a working WinOS2 audio driver called DTA will be shipped with ArcaOS 5.1. I'm not sure why it isn't shipped yet because Arca Noae has bought a license for the driver used in eComstation and it should work. But maybe there still are some bugs to be fixed. And the DTA doesn't seem to be available to download anywhere at the moment. Hopefully OS2WAVE.drv will work well enough for now.

Is there a list of which older win32 applications run under Odin?

I've instaled lots of 16-bit Windows software and something has messed up my WinOS/2 environment. When starting the WinOS/2 session MSACM.DRV crashes. If I ignore that, I can run the session but almost every program crashes when exiting etc. Is it possible to reinstall the whole WinOS/2 environment from ArcaOS installation media. And if so, how is it done?

I already have one idea that should work: I delete whole WINOS2 directory and replece it with a copy from another ArcaOS installation. Can this be done or are there better alternatives?

I'm starting to use ArcaOS more and more and might even buy more licenses because it would be more convinient to be able to have more then two bootable installations running. However the os still is lacking a alot of software and I have been wondering if Odin would be one solution. Unfortunately the documentation attached kind of sucks. I would need a straight forward guide how to actually install 32 bit Windows software. And above all: a list of working software would be nice. When it comes to Linux there is Wine Application database which has two functions: it tells us users whichs software is compatible and what steps are needed to install it.

When searching the forum a found an older topic about Microsoft Office but not much else. Do you usually use Odin and if you do which software is compatible? And are there any better instructions than Odin's own User's manual? Using wine is quite easy: you rune command "wine windows32program.exe" but I wasn't even able to find out who one does that with odin. "odin", "odininst" and "odinapp" are all unkown commands when typed in the command prompt.

Martin found a working solution and now I'm able to login with a new password created by him. I will use that until the site is fixed.

I'm using Firefox but haven't saved the password and I don't use builtin password manager. I'm probably still logged in on my T60 because of cookies. I'm using Lastpass, but for some reason, I haven't saved the password for this forum.

When opening the Martin's link I'm told to login first which I'm unable to do because I don't remember my password.

General Discussion / Getting a new password for this forum...

I have a problem with my user account because I've forgot my password.

I'm currently logged in on my T60 and that's why I'm able to post here. But having forgot my password I can't login from elsewhere. When I try to reset my password byt choosing "I forgot my password" option I won't get a password reset link to my email. Is there something wrong with the forum's configuration or is my email service provider blocking the messages? And if so, are there any other ways to reset my password?

Thaks for the advice! Copying the missing DLL from the 5.0.4 installation media fixed the Samba issue.

There's still one quite irritating thing when it comes to CAD-popup. When I hit ctrl+alt+del once and exit CAD-popup it's all fine. But if I want to re-enter CAD-popup again pressing ctrl+alt+del again it reboots the system immediately. Is there any way to prevent that? I've used to using CAD-popup for killing programs that have hanged and it gets quite frustrating to be able to do it only once per session.
