No I had not installed poppler-qt.

I have now done so.

Now it does work.

My next challenge is to make it work with VTex.

Thanks for all the help.
And now I have found the readme.os2 file that explains which pckages I needed.
Sorry I bothered you folks.

Thanks David:
Now I can load STDCPP6.  However texstudio still fails with
[J:\TexStudio]chkdll32 texstudio.exe
Loading DLL 'libc065' --> I:\ECS\DLL\LIBC065.DLL.
Loading DLL 'QtCore4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTCORE4.DLL.
Loading DLL 'stdcpp6' --> I:\USR\LIB\STDCPP6.DLL.
Loading DLL 'QtGui4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTGUI4.DLL.
Loading DLL 'QtNet4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTNET4.DLL.
Loading DLL 'poppq44' --> NOT loaded!
Unable to load DLL 'poppq44'.  DosLoadModule returned: 2
OS/2 reports 'POPPQ44' contributed to the failure.
Loading DLL 'QtXml4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTXML4.DLL.
Loading DLL 'QtScri4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTSCRI4.DLL.

BTW, yum is great.

Thanks for the reply.

When I ran yum install libstdc++ I got this response:
Setting up Install Process
Package libstdc++-4.4.6.17-1oc00.i386 already installed and latest version
Nothing to do.

Subsequent attempts to run Texstudio failed and chkdll32 still reported STDCPP6 load failed.

Texstudio can't find some dll's

[J:\TexStudio]chkdll32 texstudio.exe
Loading DLL 'libc065' --> I:\ECS\DLL\LIBC065.DLL.
Loading DLL 'QtCore4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTCORE4.DLL.
Loading DLL 'stdcpp6' --> NOT loaded!
Unable to load DLL 'stdcpp6'.  DosLoadModule returned: 2
OS/2 reports 'STDCPP6' contributed to the failure.
Loading DLL 'QtGui4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTGUI4.DLL.
Loading DLL 'QtNet4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTNET4.DLL.
Loading DLL 'poppq44' --> NOT loaded!
Unable to load DLL 'poppq44'.  DosLoadModule returned: 2
OS/2 reports 'POPPQ44' contributed to the failure.
Loading DLL 'QtXml4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTXML4.DLL.
Loading DLL 'QtScri4' --> I:\USR\LIB\QTSCRI4.DLL.

I ran yum update and it did install many packages, but nothing that contained poppq44.dll or stdcpp6.dll.

Does anyone know where these dll's can be found?

Thanks

As a musician I am chagrined that I must use Windows to run my digital audio workstations.  I see that one of my favories Guitar Pro has a Linux version.  This is probably not a very popular request.  I need native Midi support.  Timidity does not work for me.

Problem solved.  I had a defective copy of vlccore_dll.  It was truncated to a length of 940 bytes.

I downloaded VLC-2.1.5-r2 from Hobbes and it terminates immediately after launch.  Chkdll32 reports all dlls can be loaded.  Actually it did run once but never again.  Does anyone have any thoughts about this?

Hi Martin:
I was not thinking about that aspect of a replacement.  Retaining backward compatibility with PM would seem to me to be an enormous task.  As far as Qt is concerned, I would be interested if anyone could comment on the independence of the Qt Library from the native PM Apis.  I was under the impression that it used PM Apis.  I welcome correction if this view is erroneous.

As a long time OS/2 user and developer, I am curious about the perceived need to replace PM.  Exactly which benefits would follow from this?
i have the same question about WPS?
I think that we could benefit from some advanced native controls, but beyond that why should we replace that which has worked so well for so long?

Thanks for the tip.  Now that school is out for the summer (for me anyway) I will have time to try these tools.
I have downloaded the teTex files and will give that a try.

Thanks Mentore.

You statement about the cmd files did help.  I have produced a PDF output file.  I was using the raw exe file with no command line options.  But I have looked in the VTex tree and there is no documentation.

I still have not gotten TexMaker to produce the PDF using its IDE interface, but the day is young.

Thanks for the response.  There are quite a few programs on Hobbes.  I will have to investigate them.

I do like the Qt port of TexMaker very much.  It is a Tex IDE and runs the Tex to PDF tools if you supply it with the appropriate names.
My problem is I don't have any documentation identifying the binaries distributed with VTex.  I am hoping someone here has some information on how to identify the various tools in VTex and Ghostscript to TexMaker.

I have written a thesis in MS Word and I find Tex far superior is ease of use and flexibility.

Tex is a formatting language similar in concept to Html especially well suited to academic paper preparation.  The Tex distribution , in my case VTex, contains compilers that take the Tex source file and render PDF files, among other types.

I appreciate any help I may receive.

Hello to every one.  I am a new member here, although I have been an OS/2 user since 1990.  I wrote an article for EDM/2 some time ago, and I am the author of a now extinct OS/2 product called Naviplex.

My question is about setting up TexMaker to produce documents on OS/2.  I use this product on other platforms to create documents for my Math class at University.  I would like to use ECS for this but I do not know how.
I have downloaded the VTex distribution from Micropress and installed both it and TexMaker.  TexMaker runs but I can not create a PDF.  The TexMaker configuration dialog is pre-populated with the names of the programs that come with the MikTex Tex distribution.  I have looked in the VTex tree but the name of the programs are different.  Since the V Tex distribution is free, I don't think I can raise an issue to Micropress.  I would be interested to correspond with any user who has successfully used TexMaker with either VTex or another Tex distribution.

Thanks
