Networking / Dropbox plugin for NetDrive
« on: January 28, 2015, 06:10:12 am »
I asked for help to use the dropbox plugin for NetDrive, but no one on OS/2 World was able to help.

I downloaded the RPM file and the readme from the BitWise Dropbox folder. (The password is bww)

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9nnktlb5z3iihbb/AAAbSkkvXHHPU7wSVbk2JxUea?dl=0

It turns out that you can install an RPM file directly using yum

yum install ndpdbox-0.4.0.b5-0.oc00.i386.rpm

The yum installer will hang. That's OK, just reboot the computer.

After the computer is rebooted, find the NdpDBox folder and the icon for "Dropbox Authorize".
Run Dropbox Authorize (\USR\SHARE\DOC\NDPDBOX-0.4.0.B5\DROPBOXAUTH.EXE) and log in to your dropbox account.
Go back to the Dropbox Authorize screen and save your secret file.

Go to NetDrive and create a resource for dbox. Enter the full path to the secret file you created, your userid, and registration key.

This should create the share and you should now see your dropbox files.

I hope this helps others use the dbox plugin.

Multimedia / Playing DVD
« on: December 04, 2014, 02:39:46 am »
I've tried VLC and SMPlayer, but most DVDs will not play. Is it some kind of encoding problem?

It almost looks like it is scanning from track to track, but no output.

An old DVD from when DVD were a new thing plays just fine on either program.

Multimedia / Static and looping audio with UniAud
« on: September 04, 2014, 04:52:58 am »
I'm installing eCS 2.2 beta II on a Lenovo ThinkCentre M32 thin client. This is pretty new, not everyone has it for sale yet. eCS mostly works, but the sound is staticy and loopy. Moving the mouse around fast influences the static and loopiness.

There was an old bug with static and loopiness, but that was for SND.DLL and supposed to be fixed by MMFIX.EXE.

Any idea how to troubleshoot?

Applications / Firefox 24 vs OS/2 World
« on: June 01, 2014, 04:51:03 pm »
I got the new Firefox 24 beta running here. But it's claiming every word I type in the composition box is misspelled. I know I'm not the greatest speller, but how can I correct my mistakes if all of them come up?

Applications / How to make Tor work on eCS
« on: April 01, 2014, 08:58:20 pm »
Tor is a program to facilitate anonymous web browsing. Paul Smedley ported it, but there aren't instructions on how to make Tor work on eCS.

http://os2ports.smedley.id.au/index.php?page=tor

There are two applications of Tor. The first is just to get Tor to work with Firefox and use the existing Tor network.

The second is to run a Tor server as a part of the Tor network to let others browse anonymously.

I don't know which of these applications have been ported, or even, as I suspect that both functions are part of the Tor executable.

I have no idea how to begin doing either of these applications. Any Tor users out there care to comment?

Setup & Installation / Personal Communications and AS400
« on: February 06, 2014, 04:51:48 am »
I'm trying to set up Personal Communications to talk to the AS400. Using an AS 400 is easier with the IBM 122-key keyboard. But if I hook it up and configure AS400.KMP, I get a keyboard where the normal keys work, but the extra keypad does not.

This is on the eCS 2.2 beta 2.

What am I forgetting to do?

Storage / Using a 1 TB USB hard drive
« on: January 30, 2014, 04:28:18 am »
I'm looking at using a 1 TB USB portable hard drive. But eCS sees it as a 500 GB drive. What do I need to do to see the full 1 TB?

Programming / Closed source parts of eComStation
« on: December 27, 2013, 07:20:12 pm »
I'm wondering how much work there is left to leave the IBM parts of eComStation behind and going to an unencumbered product?

OS/2 Kernel
MPTS
MMOS2
Presentation Manager
WorkPlace Shell
GRADD Graphics subsystem

I'm sure I forgot a few, and there are lots of little bits that haven't ever been replaced (look inside the OS2 directory tree, but those are the big subsystems.

File and Print is largely replaced by SAMBA and CUPS.

Web applications / Jetty
« on: November 18, 2013, 04:45:05 am »
The news announces that Jetty 9 is out, and runs on Java 6.

This isn't the case. Jetty 9 requires Java 7, because it implements the Servlet 3.1 API.

OS/2 and eComStation users have OpenJDK 6, so we can run up to Jetty 8.

Setup & Installation / Wacom Graphire tablet
« on: October 31, 2013, 03:10:37 pm »
I saw the great page on digitizer support for os2 http://home.hccnet.nl/w.m.brul/penguide/ which shows a lot of support, but not for my old Wacom Graphire USB tablet. I visited the 1drop website and downloaded support for my tablet.

I described what I did my website. http://www.blondeguy.com/WacomGraphire.html

My only issue so far is for mouse button 2. I can't seem to activate mouse button 2 on the stylus. But the rest works well.

Marketplace / OS/2, software and books on eBay
« on: July 28, 2013, 04:01:39 pm »
I'm selling off the duplicate and unneeded items from OS/2 Museum West. Proceeds will support the Museum.

http://search.ebay.com/?sass=neilwaldhauer&ht=-1

The items will ship fast via USPS priority mail and are available to ship world-wide through the eBay Global Shipping Program.

I am looking for help to store and curate the Museum. If you would like to physically store the museum, you will have access to a very large collection for your interest in OS/2. The collection is currently in Santa Cruz, CA and weighs over 1000 pounds.

« on: July 14, 2013, 03:53:11 pm »
First, thanks to Yuri Dario for his work!!!

When I prepare to run OpenOffice, I use RPM to update as in the readme.

yum install libc gcc-4.4.4 gcc-4.4.6 openssl curl libjpeg libxslt libicu zlib libxml2 stdcpp mmap pthread urpo gcc-stdc++-shared-library

Transaction Check Error:
file /@unixroot/usr/lib/gcc335.dll from install of libc-devel-0.6.5-17.oc00.i3
86 conflicts with file from package libgcc335-3.3.5-6.oc00.i386

I tried to start OpenOffice by going to the openoffice program directory and executing swriter.exe, and I get

Unable to start Apache OpenOffice!
