Applications / Re: Lotus WordPro for OS/2 under ArcaOS
« on: January 18, 2018, 01:46:48 pm »
I have installed Lotus Smart Suite for OS/2 in practically all versions of OS/2, including ArcaOS, with no problems at all. To be sure, follow Greg's recomendation.

Internet / Re: Availability of Firefox 45.9.0 as .rpm file
« on: October 06, 2017, 09:47:14 pm »
The Hobbes .zip includes a file RPM_REQUIREMENTS. Most are the same versions a 45.05. I couldn't find in netlabs-rel the new versions for libc, libc-devel (0.6.6-35) and libcx (0.6.0-1), so I kept the previous one. Firefox start but in Help-About it still says 45.5!

Setup & Installation / Re: Help with Yum
« on: June 25, 2017, 05:14:11 am »
I added  i686-OS/2-OS/2 to @UNIXROOT\etc\rpm\platform as suggested by Dave, and my YUM could see the i686 repository. However, when I tried to install the libraries required for Firefox 45.5 using YUM, an error occurred, after which YUM didn't work any more.

As I couldn't recover YUM, except by reinstalling the ECS 2.2, I used a quick and dirty solution, I copied the @UNIXROOT\usr directory from a working ArcaOS system to the disk where my ECS 2.2 resides. In this way I could start Firefox 45.5 with no problem.

However, now I don't have a way to update my libraries in this system, either by using YUM directly of through ANPM.

Thanks for your help.

Setup & Installation / Help with Yum
« on: June 23, 2017, 01:33:05 am »
In a recently installed ECS 2.2 Beta 2, I try to install the libraries needed for Firefox 45.5, but when I run

YUM Install ..(.list of required libraries)

it doesn't find several of them (e.g. Cairo, Pango, etc)

However, if I do the same in ArcaOS, it finds them all.

By using YUM list, I saw that in ArcaOS Yum has access to both .i386 and .i686 libraries, but in ECS it only has access to i.386 libraries. The missing libraries in my ECS are all of the i686 type.

How can I 'upgrade' YUM in order to have access to both type of libraries? I know it is possible, because in an old ECS  I have, yum sees both types. But I don't remember how it was done.

Applications / Re: Visual BASIC for OS/2

Matin:

Yes, I meant IBM VisualAge for Basic for OS/2. There was also an IBM VisualAge for Basic for Windows NT which I also have and tested. In my period as IBM Chile Software Manager (1995-1997) I never heard of any MS software capable of running in OS2 (with the exception of those running in WinOS2) If it existed, it must be from a much earlier period.

I have a copy. Years ago I developed an application with it and still use it at times.

I know it is not a big step from T43, but my Lenovo T61 works fine with ArcaOS, including WIFI and sound support. It works better than with ECS 2.2, which had frequent problems at start-up.

The installation was smooth, using an HPFS partition which previously had an ECS 2.1. I had to switch from SNAP to Panorama, because SNAP (which works OK in ECS) distorted the images in ArcaOS.

The connection to WIFI is much faster than before, and I have no problems with mi gmail, which in ECS worked only with the basic HTML.

The only thing I miss from ECS is Flash. The ECS version does not work in ArcaOS.

I am also waiting for a modern Laptop with full support from ArcaOS

As said in a previous reply, running ArcaOS in new laptops is pointless if wireless is not supported. At the same time to write drivers for every possible wireless card is too expensive.

Wouldn't it be better to write a driver for one or two popular USB wireless adapters, which everybody can use?
