Says "a Arca Noae company", that would mean bought the company, and since Serenity was an LLC not an incorporated company, there were no shares, meaning that buying the company is simpler than buying the assets, not the other way around, there is no need to liquidate an LLC, just de-register it.

In Germany, regardless if it is a partnership, incorporation or other form of company/society/assosiation/corporation, for all those the "parts" that owners own are named "shares".

Usually tax advisers advice people to make an asset deal (what is possible for all kind of corporations and so on) instead of buying "everything" because the new owner can select the things he really needs and avoid the liabilities or i.e. guaranty issues or employee contracts etc. etc. of the former owner.

377
Just speaking about the term "Asset":

There are (more) than two ways to take over a company.

But the two most important are named:

"Share Deal" - the new owner buys the whole "old" company, including assets and liabilities

"Asset Deal" - the new owner does "only" buy the assets of the "old" company, not the liabilies. The old company does exist still but is usually liquidated after a short period of time by the still (former) owner.

So I would guess that Arca Noae "just" bought the Assets of Serentiy, and as I guess as well that the most important assets are "Licences or Owner Rights".

This might lead to the conclusion that they also bought the "License contract with/from IBM" as this seems to me to be the only valuable Asset.

This might lead to the conclusion that they also bought the "Contract with Mensys" that Serenity had - in case there was some.

This might lead to the conclusion that they also bought the "brand" EcomStation.

This might lead to the question:

Will Arca Noae publish there own version of ecomstation (or whatever they will call it) or still let Mensys do it  - or does Mensys is the owner of the brand?

At least I would say it is very very good that things are getting concentrated in hands that proofed to be able to do the "right things"  :)

Multimedia / Firefox 35 (Firefox Hello) - Videochat with OS/2 ?
« on: February 12, 2015, 01:54:23 pm »
Just would like to ask: If it would be possible to have Firefox 35 WITH Firefox Hello ported to OS/2 - would Videochat via Webcam be possible with it?

Wim is just working on the Webcam support for the Vaio Pro I have, and here is what it looks like running the Logitech Webcam with it  8)

Please keep in mind that my Screen Resolution here is 1920X1080, therefore the 640X400 window seems a bit small, but it is for me the perfect size (if you want to have it bigger, just decrease the screen resolution to i.e. 1024X736)

And the Webcam is running for half an hour without any freeze now  :D

Wim Brul filled the Touch task with another Masterpiece of Software!

The Touch Driver is at 100% now, for more information please follow the link in this thread:

http://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php?topic=619.msg6144#msg6144

If the Roadmap of Arca Noae will come true (Uniaud refresh, and Intel WLAN Drivers) wihtin this Year one will be able to use the Sony Vaio Pro 13 with a lot of benefits  :)

I can not help but am very interested in this as well.

I was not able to get a clue with the documentation, a manual for Dummies would be great!

I think I'm getting outdated. Which is the third one for used by USBECD?
03EB (Vendor ID) :211C (DeviceID) :11AB (???)

For what I can search online 03EB:211C  is the Atmel Corp. maXTouch Digitizer.

Can you tell me which is the HardwareID of the other two touch screens you tested?

Regards

Sorry, the last four numbers are the "Revision" of the hardware, if I remeber correctly.

For the X230t the touch is:  056A:00E6 -> so something like this: Wacom ISDv4 E6
For the Sony Vaio Pro 13 it is: 0EEF:A108 -> eGalaxTouch EXC7910-1031-12.00.03

Hi Sigurd.

About the Samsung Series 7 Slate, can you check the HardwareID and other information about the touch screen? is it connected internally like an USB device? Sorry, I don't have a touch screen, so I know nothing about them.

Maybe you can post some information (included hardwareID) of both Touch Screens, the one of the Lenovo and the one on the Samsung just to have some references.

Regards

Hello Martin,

You will find all the hardwarestrings regarding this on Wims Homepage, i.e. for the Samsung Slate look here:

http://home.hccnet.nl/w.m.brul/SamSung7/index.html

This is the string (=Hardware ID) for the Touch Interface there: 03EB:211C:11AB

It is connected via USB.

Hi Sigurd.

Great video.

I have a question right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2Aa_34MK-QU#t=632

On that 3-4 seconds when you move your finger and click the "OS/2 System" icon, it looks like the a second cursor (?) is moving like 3cm below your finger, like if it is following with your finger (even when it is not touching the screen). Does it work that way? or do I need glasses? :)

Regards

Hi Martin,

no, no glasses  ;)  . The mouse pointer does follow even if your finger is not directly on the screen, I do not know how far it can be away from the screen that it still works, some milimeter I would guess. But for "clicking" you need to touch the screen. During the video I sometimes use the mouse in addition to the finger as the "Right Mouse Click" (First one finger, hold, add second finger) unfortunately does not work that good with Hoppla (I have to investigate more once I have more time and talk to Wim Brul if he might see a way to improve).

Something I can not stress or emphazise enough the great work Wim Brul is doing here. Not only the drivers but also his patience, quick and thoughtfull replies and so on! Without him there will be no such things.

If one like to have Finger and Touch support I would allways suggest to have (for now  ;)  ) the Samsung Series 7 Slate. The X230T has Finger and Touch support as well, but here you can "only" have one of it at the same time where the Samsung Serie 7 works simultaniously, even in additon with a mouse so you do have three (!) input devices if you like.

I am still dreaming of the "One for all" (what will probably never even happen) Hardware device to come - I do have some hope the Lenovo Helix 2 might be one of this kind - ( Tablett, Laptop ) and then run OS/2 on it, with Touch, Stylus, Trackpoint and so on...

But I will wait untill the first tests with this device have passed and see if this might be worth a try. I already asked someone who tested this if Secure Boot can be disabled, and Yes  ;)  http://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/179028-Thinkpad-Helix-2?p=1844338&highlight=Helix#post1844338  In addition the price seems to be ridicoulus high to me.

I do have still hope that as long as a Windows 7 "Downgrade" is offered with the Hardware I am looking it, there will be the chance to install OS/2 as well, allways via cloning. But who knows..  ::)

Hi Sigurd

I really think that you should share your UpdCD configuration files to the public, removing all IBM fixpack files and any other copyright, non- freeware files. Maybe you had been trolled on the past for trying to do this and that is why you preferred to do it privately, but I think it is a good idea.

Regards

Hi Martin,

I think I will never share my UPDCD configuration nor my "Clones" - not even the "Universal clone". Fortunately I have not been trolled in the past because of this (or I missed or missunderstood it) and even if so - I do not care  ;)

The reasons for not sharing are:

- I invested to much time in this
- I do not want to have a lot of questions/problems because my version will not run or fit for others (as it for sure will, so problems are at hand)
- I already published so many hints and how to's to do it on your own, if one want's to (i.e. here http://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php/topic,335.0.html)

Even if I tried to build (and somehow succeeded) a new OS/2 Warp 4.52 DVD I still think it is the wrong path. DVDs are outdated.

I suggest to produce a bootable USB stick, containing DFSEE, a universal clone, and some special files needed for special hardware (Stylus+Finger support i.e.).
During the OS/2 User Meeting 2013 someone already showed a bootable OS/2 Merlin USB Stick with a working File Commander....

But who know's where the journey will lead to - Arca Noae and Bitwise are giving a strong hope to get and have drivers and applications for future use - but Mensys does show the opposite round with trying to get at least something out the door.

Once you have a license, start with the cloning method plus the support of Arca Noae, Bitwise, Paul Smedley, Wim Brul and all the others here around the community (sorry for not naming all) - there is simply no need anymore for a new Mensys Distro.

Imho I would like to add some ideas about how to make a "new" OS/2 Distro based on Warp 4.52. I do not want to take part in the discussion if it is legal or not or what can be cloned or not. Btw my tendencie is more towards Dougs opinion as I would like to have an OS/2 clone but it seems to me not realistic to ever get one. I am allways suprised to see the "old horse" still  running on modern hardware  8) - and I will try this as long as possible.

UPDCD is really a great piece of software. Once you have arranged everything and put everything in order you can create a bootable OS/2 DVD with almost all modern enhancements if you like. (I reported about it several times).
The one and only main (there are other but not that important) difference in the end between "my" OS/2 DVD and the eCS beta 2.2 is that I do not have ACPI right from the first boot process. I think one could figure this out, but I do not have the time nor the programming knowledge for this.

And in addition: I switched to - in my opinion - a much easier, shorter and better way - creating an universal clone (as I mentionend several times before as well).

The work with this clone has to be done only once, and I have done it for me. Sure, I am updating the clone from time to time.

Besides the 14.106SMP Kernel there are no files from eComstation. It is the Warp 4.52 with all the latest drivers (ACPI,AHCI,USB,JFS,Multimac,Panorama, SNAP,UNIAUD,HPFS386,FAT32,NTFS...), fixpacs, programs (JAVA;QT;Virtualbox;OpenOffice,Firefox,Thunderbird,Seamonkey), enhancements (QSINIT Loader, SAMBA, Finger+Stylus Support,CUPS), emulators (Virtualbox, VirtualPC,ScummVM,Dosbox including Winddows 3.11), tools (INITOR,XWP,DFSEE,AIRBOOTMANAGER,YUM-RPM...) - and in addition - all the Orignial OS/2 Warp 4 Programs (Voicetype,Bonuspak,Tutorial,Warpguides,Netwaresupport....) ....
- alltogether a 2.2GB file where a 8GB Partition is stored in.

The combination:

- DFSEE
- AirBootMananger
- Clone

gives me the opportunity to install this OS/2 Warp 4.52 clone on almost any hardware I do have right now, up to the Sony Vaio Pro 13 Haswell. In addition with the opportunity to have Windows 7 or 8/8.1 alongside...

This cloning succeeds where DVDs at least allways failed. I would have never had a working OS/2 on the Samsung Serie 7 Slate nor the Sony Vaio Pro 13. And it takes much less time.

The attached picture may give some impressions about what my clone and the touch enhancments do look like.
