Which RPM ZIP file package contains (presumably) GBM.DLL?

Sorry, no idea there, I just pulled it using AN Package Mgr, the RPM pacakge name was: GBMDLL-1.76-1.oc00.i686.rpm

Hi Andi,

...Or is there anyone here who is interested in more than 20 licenses? Martin, maybe worth a poll - "How many licenses will you buy if AN works for you?" I've the strong feeling that all the people here will not even pay one month of development :( Hope I'm wrong though.

Good point...in fact having now purchased the AN Subscription license for 3 years in a row I am curious how many of us in this forum (for example) have chosen to support/fund the on-going development of OS/2 solutions in such a manner?

As I mentioned in another post, I always thought of this subscription fee as enabling some sort of continuous work being done...not sure though since as best as I can tell there has never been a publicly stated "balance sheet" of how many such individual contributors we have and how many "corporate" clients there are that fund the remaining parts.

Problem fixed you guys!

Working through the ticket I did un-install, clean the directory and re-install...still the same problem...however, once I installed the GBMDLL RPM package things finally "clicked" together!

Sooo...bottom line, it appears Lucide was either picking up the gbm.dll file from my \mmos2\dll directory, which appears to be a 2002 install and that was causing the problem, or inherently the fact that the RPM package was missing was causing some issue.

Since the 1st instance was OK I tend to lean towards the lack of lastest DBM.DLL from the RPM package being the root cause.

Hi Andy,

I am using Paul's GS 9.15 and gsview 5.0 and am able to print to both PScript and PCL printers using os2prn rather than pswrite or ps2write.

Would you mind posting your INI files? I have not gone back to attempt to compile the modified version of GSView...my development environment is primarily VAC, so I have to do an EMX setup first. I did also receive a response from Russell Lang who stated:

"...Note that pswrite is not hard coded into GSview.  It's just one of the devices for which that GSview pre-populates some configuration option.  You can add ps2write without recompiling GSview.  Just add it from the GUI, or edit the gvpm.ini file to add it (probably quicker)..."

I am hoping to continue that conversation with him. While the responses in this thread are very welcome, most of them have been a YEY/NAY type of a thing, no one has actually spelled out what specifically needs to be changed and where, meaning, the exact details of let's say gvpm.ini file, so far that means I am nowhere further to working through this.

Good news...solution was easy: move to poppler 0.52 release, which is the current & latest release.

The other two can be deleted, which is what I have done and it's working....BUUUTTTT....working in this case simply means I can open ONE (1) document only...attempting to open multiple PDFs produces a TRAP, or to be more precise, attempting to open another instance of Lucide produces a TRAP...so off I went, new ticket created, see => http://trac.netlabs.org/lucide/ticket/347

Hi Dave,

...Are you using a version from experimental?...

Nope, I decided to stay away from anything that was not an official release...so in the case of 4.12.0-3 I only grabbed it once it made it's way to REL status.

Ticket logged, see => trac.netlabs.org/ports/ticket/152 , thanks for the advice.

Internet / FF38 running into problems with latest NSPR update...
« on: April 16, 2017, 01:51:17 am »
I have been runing nspr RPM package 4.12.0-1 (oc00) i686 for some time now. Recently the 4.12.0-3 drop became available. I installed it, almost immediately started running into problems with FF.

The application would "freeze"...meaning, it would become non-responsive, the CPU monitor would show a complete drop of processing, almost like nothing was actually running...the ESC-CTRL hit would actually bring up Window List viewer where occasionally I managed to kill Firefox sessions, most often however I could not, nor could I do it in TOP, or CAD-popup. This was rarely an issue with FF in the past.

I went back to the 4.12.0-1 release, things are back to "normal"...so definitely something's off with the 4.12.0-3.

Question for everyone here, if I was to log a ticket for this...should this belong to FF, or the nspr (where ever that might actually be???)?

Thanks,
-Dariusz

Applications / Lucide 1.4.0 GA has a PDF plug-in problem...FYI!
« on: April 16, 2017, 01:43:30 am »
As with the previous 1.4.0 RC3 drop during the poppler RPM/YUM upgrade the previously functioning PDF plug-in got "killed". The workaround was to install both versions of poppler packages, those being:

poppler-legacy-63 (0.47.0-1)
poppler-legacy-65 (0.49.0-2)

This time around with the 1.4.0 GA drop even the above two are not sufficient, result is no ability for Lucide to display PDFs.

I logged a ticket, see => http://trac.netlabs.org/lucide/ticket/346

Hi Andi,

@Dariousz - I don't think your observations with SNAP are related to the ticket which is for Panorama. But that's all to much OT for this thread anyway. If you think your problem is in SNAP then I guess it would be better to open a ticket for SNAP and explaining exactly which 2 bytes are corrupted (position)...

Great point, I went ahead and logged an official ticket for the SNAP issue I am experiencing. For those interested, in case you also run into this, please see https://mantis.arcanoae.com/view.php?id=938.

Hi Neil,

...But for video problems and ACPI problems, I will make this comment. It is very useful to developers if you go on to the Arca Noae website and make a good bug report...

Great point, in my case the issue with SNAP and my monitor occured well ahead of AN even being formed...so I would say it was that in-between/twilight-zone period where there was no place to go...LOL

But...you made me curious enough to go out there and search through the tickets, what I did find was actually a very recent https://mantis.arcanoae.com/view.php?id=777 ticket which appears to show the very same symptoms I experienced.

Anyways, I updated the ticket with my info, hopefully David is interested enough in this to get to the bottom. As it happens I did offer to get involved in troubleshooting this and literally working on the drivers/utility programs themselves some time ago...we are going back to early 2016 actually. Discussed this with Lewis who concluded by saying he appreciated my offer and would contact me when the work started...well, at this point in time I have yet to hear back. Again, I am not privy to the details of AN's priorities, however as a paying customer who has shown his willingness to volunteer I do doubly stand by what I said: we all should be getting a little more clarity from our vendor of choice.

So I recently (as in over this past weekend) renewed my AN Subscription (3rd yr in a row now)...I did not mind doing so, even though over the past year I quite honestly did not get anything new out of this support model...my 6-core AMD Phenom X6 CPU still fails to get past the dreaded WPS blue-screen on bootup...so no change there, I remain locked into the 5-core only mode.

However...reading through this thread and comparing the conversation to what has appeared in various forums and/or Warpstock presentations I do have a couple of Qs I wish someone would provide an answer for:

1) will the current AN Subscription model provide the level of "upgrades" which the overall ArcaOS is intending to do deliver as a single "package"? I ask this because I honestly view my last year's subscription costs as funding the ArcaOS project...again, part of the reason why I said "I did not mind doing so", but I am not at all clear regarding the plans for the AN Subscription and how that compares to the ArcaOS...???

2) will SNAP, whether for the GA timing, or thereafter be finally fixed to allow multiple modern displays (or heck, even older displays) to be used without any problems? In my personal experience the SNAP EDID decoding logic is broken, I attribute that to a bug, the work-around is to re-write the display EDID which quite honestly is not for the faint of heart...LOL, been there, done that, do not wish to have to do so again. SNAP has been talked about repeatedly, as a video device driver it is an incredibly important component of any modern OS and yet there have not been any updates regarding this...???

Again...I tend to "put my money where my mouth is", meaning, support the efforts through funding, whether it be something like AN Subscription or individual contributor donations (which I have done a few of in the past couple of years alone), so the least I would like to see is a clear "Release Features" list from my current vendor of choice.

Applications / Re: eCo Software Runtime Packages - benefits???
« on: April 08, 2017, 08:50:42 pm »
Hi Dave!

...I get the new FOC to choose where to save the file. Personally I like the new save as dialog, at least as implemented in ArcaOS...

I have not seen the ArcaOS yet, but is it relying (maybe in part?) on these runtimes they show? Seems like it would make sense to deploy something that's been already developed and tested over some time...

Applications / eCo Software Runtime Packages - benefits???
« on: April 08, 2017, 07:39:55 pm »
So in the process of re-newing my ArcaNoae Subscription package today I noticed that they also show the "eCo Software Runtime Packages" as available for download.

Having reviewed the latest changes/log entries it appears to me that these were intended to bring the newer user interface type improvements to our OS/2 platform. Certainly the FOC alone is ripe for a lot of changes which would benefit us all...and it certainly appears that some of these options have been addressed. For example the log for the WIN runtime states the following:

foc
  25.12.2016 Dmitry A.Steklenev
   - Now WC_PREVIEW formats date and time according to the current locale.
   - Added standalone preview plug-in for JPEG files. This plug-in can work on
     systems without MMOS2 installed.
   - The context menu of the file dialog and of the directory selection
dialog now have a "Properties" menu item.
   - By default, the file dialog remembers last 10 of selected files and
directories. This number can be redefined via ULONG value of the
MaxRecentItems key of the PM_ControlPanel section of the user profile
(OS2.INI). The maximal possible value is 128.
   - Settings of the WPFOCSystem WPS class now splitted into two pages.

Sooo...before I take a stab at installing these can anyone tell me/or provide feedback on just how "usuable" these enhancements are? Meaning, is the implementation intended to re-direct the standard FOC calls to these enhanced versions, or is it that only apps re-written to take advantage of the new APIs can actually use these features?

Thanks!

Hi Andreas,

I don't know why so many complicated hacks and workarounds came up here, which simply will not solve the original problem...

In the screenshot you included it looks like you do not use a Postscript printer...my issue is specific to such a printer...therefore, happy to try GSView 4.9 (no harm in going there), but having tried this with 5.0 precisely how you spelled it out the results were not good, ie no working Postscript solution.

Help me/us out though...why do you belive GSView 5.0 is "broken" anyways?

Is it because you have tried these exact steps with 5.0 and could only get them working with 4.9?

« on: April 05, 2017, 01:30:39 pm »
Hi Paul,

...Pretty sure that restarting ndctl.exe will fix this. repmod allows you to copy over the new dll, it doesn't load it into memory....

Weird...because I can absolutely assure you I not only STOPed and STARTed the ndctl control program, but I also actually shut down the whole ND GUI as I prepped the log output, etc.

Anyways, much better news to report this time around!!!  :D

Everything appears to work successfully. The file is copied despite the fact that the target FS does not actually support EAs, so the exception handling is graceful.

There is one thing that has me scratching my head, once the file copy is done I am unable to actually DELETE the file from the TARGET location...almost like something is set for that file that prevents me from doing so through WPS...however no problem doing this through CLI. However given that I am using XWP I really can not tell what is contributing to the symptom. The file is not set to ReadOnly mode, etc, etc...

Should I update the ticket with the "Success" results? I have the log for that as well in case it would act as a good reference point?

Thanks!
