There are loads of NOS (New old stock) OS/2 products on eBay UK and US now for some reason, alongside a few used items, mostly individual sellers (cleaning up before Christmas ?). But alongside the usual used copies of OS2 2.1 and 3 there are a number of shrink wrapped Microsoft and borland applications and 1.x and 2.0 versions of the OS.

Hi Guys.

This is something new for me. I didn't know that a way to promote OS/2 Warp was to include some kind of demo on the "3M 3.5" High Density DS Diskettes 24 pack". Very interesting. Does anybody tried it? I guess it was just some multimedia OS/2 demo.

Check it on ebay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/3M-3-5-High-Density-DS-Diskettes-24-pack-IBM-Format-One-OS-2-Warp-Demo-Disk-NOS-/162708806941?epid=1200920385&hash=item25e2335d1d:g:0KsAAOSwLmZZtaEh).

Hi Jon.

It seems something went wrong because the picture of the item is a suitcase.  (https://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-OS-2-WARP-4-with-several-books-NICE-COLLECTION-OF-vintage-collectables/282891900500?hash=item41ddabd654:g:D0UAAOSwCNpasGXq)
Check it out and put the pictures of the OS/2 Warp 4 Server you are offering.

I saw a photo of that watch awhile back and always wanted to get one. I have a ebay search for it, not sure why this didn't show up on it. Anyway, I'd buy it, but that $40 bid price + $18 shipping (USD) is a bit much for me at this time. :(

Wow !!!

I had to search what a "Die Punch" machine is, since I'm not good with industrial terms in English. I understand it is the industrial tool that can make different shapes of metal pieces, right?

I'm going to list this machine on the OS2World wiki under the industrial machinery. If someone has one of this at home, let me know  ;D ;D ;D

It is the first time I see a "Software Choice" box. I guess it is in Japanese or Chinese, but I haven't even saw this one in English.

It is in Japanese, Chinese would be in simplified Chinese characters only, this is a mix of Kanji (Traditional Chinese characters) , rōmaji and katakana, which are unique to Japanese.
Title: Re: ebay Stuff
Post by: Alex Taylor on March 01, 2020, 01:56:43 pm
Indeed, the Software Choice is in Japanese (and is for Warp Server Advanced Japanese Edition).

The Warp 4 Chinese is the Simplified Chinese Edition (i.e. for the mainland Chinese market).

Fun fact, back when I had Passport Advantage in its final few years, it was supposedly for Warp 4 English.  For some reason, IBM put copies of not only MCP1/2 English on my account, but also gave me Japanese, French, German, and Simplified Chinese.  And, for some strange reason, ACP2 in German.

Those shaped CD-ROMs were "a thing" in the 90's, buy luckily not for long. Their compatibility with drives were limited to those that one pushed disc to the spindle (mostly portable ones). Some discs would have worked in normal ones if the design of the disc was made so it centered the disc correctly.

Business cards and whatnot shapes were around. Fortunately this madness didn't last long. Some bands released some music on these, but mostly just novelty items that were not meant for use :D

Looking at the leaflet one deducts it was some kind of software pack, no idea what ...

Code: [Select]
[ Click ]

Your hyperlink is invalid ... you can see there are extra stuff around the URL.

Correct one would be:

Code: [Select]
Click

*gg* the [ ] around the Click me link were intentional. Usually I do these as they should "simulate" a button.

Business card CD's are still a thing

http://www.cdr-business-cards.co.uk/

They will survive a high speed drive unlike some of the more interesting shapes did, not to mention thin walled DVD-RW's that exploded if you tried to write to them at high speeds

Yeah, that irregular CD Shape was a thing on the 90's, I have a Green Day single in the shape of a brain. It came with a warning that it may not work on some CD-Players.

I think that it is good to use that CDs on the CD-Players that the lid opens on top and you can fit the hole exactly on the place. The CD-readers that have a tray may cause problems and you have to put it exactly in the middle so the hole fits. It may be a problem on CD-players that suck the CDs in (like a MacMini / Nintendo Wii / Wii U kind), but I have never tried on one of those.

Anyways, maybe one day we will have that CD image on the Internet Archive to see what OS/2 stuff it contains.

Be sure to use an ancient CD drive or a software tool which reduces drive speed from something like 52x down to 4x or the disc will likely be destroyed because of unbalanced mass. If the drive has no spindle to click the CD on, the risk is even higher.

Sandra-Asja

In fact there have been at least two Volumes of this No Limit! CDs, both of them have been sent to me by IBM as a registered Warp User in 1996, if I remember correctly.

It was one of the attempts to Show Users that there are at least some OS/2 Applications und Supplements around, to have something to Show in the Competition with Windows 95.
EDIT: Volume 1 in 1995 and Volume 2 early 1996, both before Warp 4 arrived.
Both of them are still in good shape. I guess Volume 2 was build to have wholes where there is no Colour on the CD as well, but due to Users reporting Problems with Volume 1 in CD Drives with more than 4X Speed the cancelled the cut process, I guess.
Title: Re: ebay Stuff
Post by: Mathias on March 13, 2020, 08:45:31 am
Oh dear.. 4x speed drive? Who still has such stuff? When remembering correctly, my slowest drive ever was a Mitsumi 6x in 1995, but that is long gone. :/
Currently my slowest drive is an HP Writer 8x read [picture (https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nessales.com%2Febay%2F14130%2FHewlett-Packard%2520HP%2520CD-Writer%2520Plus%2520IDE%2520CD-RecordableReWritable%2520Drive%25208200%2520C4415_2.JPG&f=1&nofb=1)], which still works.
But I'd rather not shread that historical writer, or the cewl CD. Is there an ISO of these CDs around? Would ease the process.. ; ) - Atleast for volume 1, which I do now officially own. (I'd be happy when it would finally arrive.. grrr)

Always fun to see what's on sale of OS2 stuff on eBay and while I didn't really collected any OS2 related stuff I do still have a few things left which I consider putting up for sale at eBay just allow a fair chance to get it. Got some old unused t-shirts, IBM Pink Panther wrist watch, etc. Remember 15 years when I put up a big ass OS2 flag on eBay which sold for far more than I ever expected.

But, in general the retro tech prices has gone up over the last couple of years and special during last year; guess that people needs to have small projects when society in general is locked down  :) While I don't collect OS2, I've been over the last year more into Dragon 32/64, TRS-80, C64, C128, A1000 and A500 including that I've also fixed up some of my old Thinkpad X system.

If you need some space and you want to some of your OS/2 stuff to get a home, go ahead an put it on ebay.

I usually want everything  ;D but I don't want more stuff at home. I have enough with some OS/2 Boxes and my Def Leppard collection. I want to collect digital things now, so it does not take more space  ;D ;D
