There is a project: https://github.com/rswinkle/PortableGL that might be the easiest route to some kind of 3D library because it is designed to be portable and is being continuously worked on...

Multimedia / VLC - does it play disks?
« on: November 11, 2023, 05:04:02 pm »
I have an extensive collection of DVD and Blu-Ray video and music disks, but I can't seem to play the vast majority of them with VLC. Only DVD's of films made before WWII work - presumably not encrypted. Blu-Ray is not even recognized - maybe not supported on our platform? I'm wondering if anyone can use VLC to play an encrypted DVD or Blu-Ray disc?

I reported this about 5 years ago to KoMH, but he said it worked for him... I've tried 5 or 6 different computers with OS/2 and none have worked for me yet. Maybe just bad luck?

Mail-News / PMMail with Comcast doesn't work?
« on: June 03, 2023, 06:32:26 pm »
Hi All,

About a week ago, PMMail stopped being able to get email from my Comcast account, even though nothing was changed with either PMMail or stunnel, which has worked for many years. The PMMail error log shows:

Sat, 03 Jun 2023 12:22:36 pm ==> Connection Failure:  Couldn't connect (err:61 - Connection refused). n tries [2]

but the stunnel log does not show any errors, so I am baffled. Anyone else using PMMail with a Comcast account?

I notice that gmail recently changed their sign on protocol, so I wonder if Comcast did something similar (without notification). I went to the Comcast website and looked at their instructions for setting up email clients, but everything I have setup in PMMail is correct. I can also log in to Comcast with Dooble and access my emails with the same credentials used by PMMail.

Can anyone give me a clue?

Regards,

Edit - checked the PMMail log file and it shows this started on May29 and has this error:
2023-05-29T08:50:41.398 (010)-E-ConnectPOP: connect(68.81.43.74:7110) error[61]: [Connection refused]

68.81.43.74 is my routers' IP address, and 7110 is the local port for stunnel. The comcast port should be 995 and IP should be 127.0.0.1, but stunnel.conf is correct. Somehow this doesn't look right... the implication is PMMail is not connecting to stunnel?

Events / ArcaOS 5.0.8 is out!

Just installed - worked great once I figured out to have ACPI load before NVME in the installer (can't boot NVME on this machine in CSM mode). It has a new Kernel too, although I can't find any info about what is new in it...

Utilities / DUMPFS setup
« on: March 04, 2023, 05:33:56 pm »
 Hi All,

I'm trying to setup  DUMPFS to use a 4GB partition to dump the system to. Used DUMPFS32_61.wpi to install, and created a 4095MB partition called SADUMP on a 512GB drive per the instructions (see attached DFSEE window). Formatted first as JFS (to force type 07), then formatted with dumpfs, again per the instructions. Used Y: as the drive letter. Set TRAPDUMP=R0,Y: in CONFIG.SYS.

Rebooted, and hit <ctrl><alt><num-lock><num-lock> and I get a message that says the dump partition does not exist. Any idea what I might have done wrong?

The instructions don't say so, but I wonder if the dump partition must be on the same disk as the boot partition? In this case it is not. I have an X: drive (2GB) on the boot disk that works as a dump partition only if I use 'memlimit' to limit memory to less than 2GB, but I want to get away from that if possible so I can capture unexpected traps when they happen.

Regards,

EDIT: Forgot to mention - the disk the Y: partition is on is an NVMe drive. Could that be the problem?

Applications / SeaMonkey downloads and Unix permissions
« on: January 08, 2022, 03:10:56 pm »
 Hi everyone,

When downloading files using SeaMonkey 2.42.9esr, the downloaded files are always marked like these are when running 'ls -l':

[D:\junk\dl]ls -l
total 55308
-rw------- 1 root root 28717328 Jan  5 22:26 Bluegriffon_1-1-1r2.zip
-rw------- 1 root root  3688568 Jan  7 15:49 CUSeeMe2_1-9c.zip
-rw------- 1 root root    27946 Jan  8 08:23 ndpsmb-3.7.3-samba411-20220108.zip

showing they can be read and written by the owner (root) only. Not a big deal in OS/2, because it pays no attention to these permissions anyway. But things get 'interesting' when you copy these files to a SAMBA server, because it DOES pay attention to these, and so from OS/2 if you try to move, copy, rename, open, or execute one of these files on the server, it doesn't work!

Is there a setting in SeaMonkey that can change this? Or in OS/2? Why is SeaMonkey doing this? Up to now, I just do a 'chmod 777' on the files before copying them to the server, but would really like to not have to do that. Looking for some enlightenment here...

General Discussion / OS/4 Kernel trouble
« on: September 05, 2016, 06:18:50 pm »
I tried the OS/4 kernel on my laptop for the first time today, and while it boots, I get a repeating desktop startup sound, and no devices with IRQ's above 15 work (sound, network, USB). It is the same with or without the /APIC switch. Has anyone run into this before? One thing unusual about this laptop - when using the Netlabs ACPI.PSD, the hardware manager shows ACPI on IRQ 10. Everything else I have seen uses IRQ 9. Maybe related to the issue? I'll attach the kernlog file.

Hardware / Hi IRQ SCSI adapter
« on: June 02, 2013, 11:22:47 pm »
Does anyone know of a SCSI adapter that has an eCS driver capable of using IRQs above 15? I am looking to replace an old Adaptec U160 adapter...

Open Office 3.4 for eCS? A couple of months ago there were some developers test releases, but nothing since. Anyone have any news?
