Is there a summary of that somewhere? Didn't find anything at os2voice.org.

I used newcalls years ago for systems with flash memory instead of a harddisk. I don't think it's very useful/necessary nowadays with SSD.

And we should all remember the differences in languages and cultures represented here can make statements come across harsher than perhaps intended.
All true. But as Lars stated above this is not the case with ak120/Andreas Kohl. We the German native speakers know
  • it's not a language problem (if you read his statements you know he is very very good in English compared to most of the other Germans/Austrians/Swiss here)
  • it's not a cultural problem (maybe some very slight damage given by the long ago punishment in Eastern Germany. But all other Ex-DDR guys I know handle that much better)
  • it's a personal problem with him which drives people crazy even in the German forum os2.org
  • he's very often offtopic and gives irrelevant inputs (constantly talks about ancient hard-/software no one else uses since ages nor the thread starter does)
  • constantly wants to demonstrate he, and only he, is right and knowledgeable
On the other hand he has some very deep knowledge in some fields and sometimes (unfortunately not very often) gives very valuable information.

Andi, you write about testers but the problem is just what are they testing on?
Where is the problem here? I guess if testers were paid by AN or by any other individual or company they will test what they get paid for. Otherwise they will test what they are interested in and with hardware they have.

If you want better support for your individual hardware you can open tickets in the bugtracker. If you want even better support I guess AN is happy to take your money and will invest in better support for your specific hardware. But it's up to AN to decide on that.

I think we should note that most of what we are talking here is speculation. When Lars says -
Quote
Please speak up now if you don't want that to happen.
I fully understand his feelings. But on the other hand I'm not aware of any official statement from AN about that all until now. So what about should we speak up?

I'm quarreling with myself if I should post in this thread again. Until now AFAIK only testers knows about the new USB stack. I'm still unsure if testers should twaddle about things they test. I think it's better to calm down and see how it goes. But this discussion has started so I should add that the new 32 bit test stack does still work with Lars usbmsd.add.

Has anyone tested this new stack and found out that it does not work anymore with any other current driver (usbaudio, Wims driver, ....)? If yes, which driver does not work anymore?

I don't believe that DDK license is valid today because IBM did quit with OS/2. There business is not harmed with it because they don't sell OS/2 anymore.
IMHO you are wrong. The DDK license will not go away cause only we would like it that way. And IBM does still sell OS/2 licenses. Otherwise AN was not able to sell you ArcaOS.

AN is currently working on XHCI. Along with that there is a decision to make the USB driver stack (mostly) 32-bit.
The stated reason for this was to increase data throughput.
That's not completely accurate. At least not in the way a user would understand 'increase in throughput'. Even David said he does not expect measurable transfer speed or throughput changes.

My measurements when accessing external harddisks gave only slight improvement. But we are still way behind other platforms. And you have to mix Davids drivers with Lars usbmsd.add for getting best throughput. You may see less cpu utilization especially on old hardware and much concurrent accesses. But I would not expect a noticeable effect on current systems. YMMV.

Guessing the change was made to make future development easier. For AN. Not for the rest of the world. Except David make his changes and his DDK publicly available some day.

The DESKTOP handle is one of the very first things it checks, if it can not find it nor determine what it should be, it basically stops, at which point in time you know the only other fix is the INI restore.
Checkini tells you how to run with the option to set the desktop entry (IIRC /DC:\DESTOP, or for me /DM:Arbeitsoberfläche). This was sometimes useful to me in the past. But of course the inis got corrupted in some way or the other and maybe restoring it from a backup would be a better option in such cases.

Programming / Re: DHCP client

Ian you are a native English speaker I think. Did you understand what Andre is talking here? Do you know what the problem is? Do you understand what he means with f.i. all OS/2 WPA2 DHCP clients?

One last question, do you really think Andre is human? For me this thread is another proof for sort of AI attack to this forum. Looking at his stats page he seem to have no regular sleeping time too. Although no proof but another sign. I consider spending some time in filling other buzz words here in this thread to see what triggers even more crazy reactions.

As usual I don't even understand what's Andre is talking about. Only reason why I reply is

DHCP client when WPA2 was used
which implies he has troubles with xwlan/wlanstat. I'm guessing he talks about a problem with dhclient and not the OS/2 DHCP client. But it's guessing. He gave no problem description that makes sense to me. He don't even bother making a reasonable subject for this thread.

I do not have any problem with shutdown and so I think most users does not have it too. Maybe cause we all use xwp? I don't know. Unfortunately Andre does not describe his problem but asks about a utility in such an unspecific way I can not understand even when reading it numerous times.

And the best thing is ICAT stops as well of course. Now I can remotely single step through xwlan source code widget loading code  :)

_interrupt(3) will very likely encode an "int 3" instruction as a 2 Byte opcode (0xCD 0x03).
Just verified with a test sample and it decodes correctly to 0xCC. This is with VAC3.65 and icc /Ti. Idebug stops and the popup says 'A program-generated breakpoint was encountered'.

Thanks to all.

I searched the manuals, toolkit headers and samples back and forth for INT, INT3, INT 3, ... tried a lot of code I found in the net and got the feeling it must be something very simple. That's the reason I asked here. Now I do not understand why I missed the _interrupt section. One culprit was #include <builtin.h> and I concentrated on code examples and the toolkit instead the compiler helpers. Thanks again.

Topic says it all. I do not find any information to insert a breakpoint INT 3 in my C source code which should be compiled with VAC3.65. Sounds simple but obviously I fed the wrong words into the search engine.

Should. Not every development environment of every application is aware of a LONGLONG, and implementing your own LONGLONG variable is slightly harder than appending a reasonable L. If a development environment supports LONGLONG by default, then it resulted in a broken app (VAC3.08 -> VAC4FP2, IIRC).

I wish it was as easy as appending an L, and implementing my own LONGLONG is a bit over the top for an app which typically won't be used with huge files. Nevertheless I've looked at appending it, but it resulted in VAC4's fatal new errors.
<silence>
Your a masochist if you're still developing new >2GB aware applications with VAC3.08. No serious application developer will do this. Did you forget the thread is about dreaming of an 64 bit OS/2? And you're talking about problems with a compiler from the last century.

Even for current OS/2 application development use VAC3.65 or VAC4 or even better OpenWatcom and gcc with os2tk45. And simply do -
Code: [Select]
#define INCL_LONGLONG

Do not use this with xwlan3.12 or above. Changing the dhcp statements would be needed.
