My T43 1871 has n IDE interface, so SSD is not possible. It wouldn't do any good anyway, because it would be limited to the bus speed.

PCMCIA is possible, but it is also slow, even if you could find suitable hardware.

I have 1.5 GB of memory, which works well. You need at least, 1 GB to avoid excessive paging. I think 2 GB is maximum, in that machine.

Bottom line is that it is an OLD machine, with many limits.

Remember that there are two flavors of IBM Thinkpad T43. The -1xxx never had OS/2 support, and ACPI is pretty much required for a good install. The -2xxx has OS/2 support, and the original IBM drivers with APM work very well.

Either way, you get the SATA disk controller with only a PATA/SATA converter that greatly restricts your choices of a hard drive.

Glad it works for you too. Besides the music, the only other thing I found that doesn't work is on the 'Help and Manuals' dialog, on the 'Websites' column everything there will lock the process - I presume because there needs to be a way to open a browser that is not implemented for OS/2.

I'm using KSoftSeq for MIDI, but maybe SDL doesn't recognize MIDI on OS/2?

Did you go into 'Game Options'-> 'Sound' and choose 'OpenFSX' in the 'Base Sounds' drop-down box? Same with 'Base Music' drop-down and 'OpenMSX',

Thanks David. I was missing that. Now I have sound effects.

About the Music. I installed the "OpenMSX", enabled it on the Game settings, have an ArcaOS that can runs MIDI (Timidity and Timidity MCD) and I got no music. Maybe the issue is what Paul is saying, that some part of the code was removed.

But for me this game port is a keeper !!!

>BTW do you have an SSD in the T43 ? Or a disc with revolving platters ? You can install an SSD I think in T43 if you have not done so.

No workey for me. Per Thinkpad Forums.
Some people have luck with using m2>ide sleds. Maybe it depends on model of ThinkPad, maybe it's the m2 adapter, tends to be in the air.
I also tried a real transcend solid state ide drive.

Also, if you very electronically talented, you can convert a T43 to run SATA, but that's above my pay grade and no one does that thing commercially.

If it is crashing when a sound plays, sounds like an IRQ conflict, strange.
Are you using ACPI or APM? I found on my T42 APM worked much better with everything except hibernation supported out of the box.

Will adding the LVM information cause Windows to be unhappy?

Is there an article or video that uncovers where the LVM information is stored and what it includes?

It's fine, located in a hidden area of the MBR/EBR and nothing has ever complained about it, including cameras and old MP3 devices as well as Windows and Linux. Just don't use fdisk or similar on the disk after creating it on OS/2.
Note also that most sticks come from the factory formatted as large floppies (no partition table), which OS/2 only supports up to 2GB, so you do have to partition it on OS/2.
Worst thing is that our FAT32 driver is very slow.

I seem to recall, that PMFAX has something, but I don't remember the details.

There is also that old "alternate" serial driver. Again, my memory fails me.

Rodent? Should be on Hobbes. http://hobbesarchive.com/Home/Download?path=/Hobbes/pub/os2/system/drivers/mouse/Rodent_1-0-13.zip which is the public domain version with source.
