Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: Best Email Program on ArcaOS
« on: January 13, 2025, 02:45:37 pm »
I live in the US (TN to be more specific).

I am just looking for a way to check my email (and leave it on the server, so no downloading).

I am a long time OS/2 user (back form 2.1) but also a typical user where I know what I am doing but never really digging deep (programing, etc).

I wish there was an easy way to just get my email, and since our browser is so old (and I am excited for a newer one like Dooble), I am not even able to go that route (webmail).

I appreciate everyone's comments, so for right now I don't think there are any great ways of getting email (other apps included) but I will try and see how the gmail setup is though outlook is my primary email because of work).

If I am able to get any of them (outlook, gmail, or yahoo) working I will let everyone know!

Thanks!!!

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Best Email Program on ArcaOS
« on: January 11, 2025, 03:42:16 pm »
Hi everyone, I am running ArcaOS 5.1 on bare metal (IBM Thinkpad T43) and things are working well for the most part but I am really struggling to get any of my emails working.

For awhile now I have only used outlook on Thunderbird 45.8.0 in ArcaOS with no issues but for the last few months it wont accept my password. This password works on any other computer/cell phone I have and I have checked a dozen times in Thunderbird. I use Thunderbird on my Windows machine and it works there fine.

I also have email address in gmail and yahoo I would love to use in one program.

Does anyone have suggestions on an email program in AcraOS I can use? I have not used PMMail forever, maybe that would work? I don't know =/

Also, I tried using the web based apps for the emails (I really don't want to) but they all failed because they say Firefox is too old to use.

Anyways, I am open to try any email apps out there, let me know what works for you!

Web applications / Thunderbird - ArcaOS 5.1
« on: February 08, 2024, 04:55:44 pm »
Hi everyone!

I have installed AcraOS 5.1 a few weeks ago and its been rock solid for the most part.

One Issue I have is with the stock install of Thunderbird (which I think is the newest version - Version 45.8.0).

I have three main email address I would like to pull from: Outlook, Yahoo, and Google.

Oddly enough, my MS outlook is the only one that works perfectly.

Google Email - I set it up in Thunderbird with no problem and then pops a new screen (website) to log in to verify my info, I do and then have to verify on my phone (which I do). Then in the browser I have to hit allow.

From here, it goes back to Thunderbird and it sits there checking password FOREVER. I know its the right password and I even tried to put the wrong one in and when I do that, it immediately says its wrong. So I think its stuck somehow.

Yahoo email - I fill out the settings in Thunderbird to setup the email and the second I hit continue on the Mail Account Setup window crashes immesdaiatley.

I just want to see if other people are having  this issue or it works fine for you, maybe there are additional settings I need to play with?

Thanks!

How about LibreOffice, I think Openoffice is on a small crawl of progression.

Not sure how to word this but I would be interested in where we are with video/sound/network drivers/software with Arca 5.1

I love using OS/2 a retro machine at the moment (playing Ultima 4 atm via DOSBox), but I'm hoping 5.1 helps with making it easier (especially under windows 3.1)

Would love to hear about the progress on the new web browser.

Love the progress though! Exciting!

Hardware / Re: Hardware Compatibility Wishlist for 2022

I agree, Dual Monitor support and WiFi support would be the biggest items when it comes to hardware.

As a secondary wish for hardware, perhaps basic Bluetooth support (even keyboards and mice) would be great.

Lastly, I am not sure if we need new drivers for 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express? If so, that would be good to start looking at what that would take.

On the software side I have a few more wishes =)
